MCDOWELL HOSPITAL Existing Hospital Outline CEP MOB Dining Terrace Loading Dock Ambulance Canopy Hospital Entrance Replacement Hospital Site Plan Replacement Project Mission Health invested more than $37 million in the McDowell Hospital campus to be able to upgrade and expand parts of the hospital. The new facility will feature expanded emergency room services, additional inpatient rooms and updated imaging equipment. The campus will provide a focus on outpatient care and a continuation of health care services that support our regional network of care and ensure access to care in a sustainable manner. Project Schedule and Features Groundbreaking October 27, 2015 Scheduled completion in 2017 56,000-square-foot hospital will be built in front of the existing hospital, which will be demolished after construction is complete Additional 28,000-square-foot medical office building Additional 30 beds will include 5 designated labor and delivery suites and 25 inpatient rooms 3 inpatient/outpatient operating rooms 12 pre- and post-operative bays, with 1 C-section room Expanded Emergency Department with 15 bays and 2 trauma rooms • Ambulatory surgery center Improved parking and patient access Community Benefits Since 1983, hospital building codes have changed. While renovation was considered, the cost of construction would be the same. The new state-of-the-art facility will improve safety and efficiency of care and enhance the patient experience. The main focus of the new hospital will be outpatient and emergency care, along with inpatient care. Emergency Services The new facility will maximize patient flow to reduce wait times. The number of bays will increase from 11 to 15. Capacity for patient volume surges will be built in. For behavioral health patients, a safe area will provide care while the patient awaits transfer. Our goal is to get our patients to a provider in less than 30 minutes.
