Wed 10 Mar Delhi to AgraBefore leaving Delhi we’ll visitHumayun’s Tomb, the mausoleum ofthe Mughal Emperor Humayun.Structurally, it set a precedent forsubsequent Mughal architecture,which reached its zenith with the TajMahal at Agra. We’ll also visit theQutub Minar 73 metre highsandstone minaret, a UNESCO WorldHeritage Site. After lunch we’ll driveto Agra and check-in at the luxuryITC Mughal Hotel for our 2-nightstay._______________________________

Thu 11 Mar Sunrise at Taj MahalAn included sunrise visit to the TajMahal to view this amazing ivory-white marble mausoleum in thedawn light.

Built by Emperor Shah Jahan inmemory of his wife, the Taj Mahaltook 22 years to construct and wascompleted in 1653.

We return to our hotel for breakfast,before a visit to Agra Fort, the mainresidence of the emperors of theMughal Dynasty until 1638, when thecapital was shifted from Agra toDelhi. After lunch at a localrestaurant, we visit Mehtab Bagh, agarden complex located on thebanks of the Yamuna River. Thegarden is perfectly aligned with theTaj Mahal on the opposite bank, andoffers great sunset views._______________________________

Fri 12 Mar BharatpurA leisurely departure from Agra forour drive to Jaipur, enjoying lunch atthe Bagh Resort in Bharatpur onroute. In Jaipur we stay two nightsat the stunning Jai Mahal Palace.Built in 1745 and previously theresidence of Jaipur’s PrimeMinisters, the building has beenpainstakingly restored and recentlyrefurbished, and is now a luxury five-star heritage hotel equipped with allmodern-day comforts.

Sat 13 Mar Jaipur City TourToday we explore the colourfulcapital city of Rajasthan state. We’lldefinitely need a photo-stop to viewthe facade of the most famouslandmark of Jaipur, the incredibleHawa Mahal - or “Palace of theWinds”. And on the outskirts of thecity, we’ll visit the early 17th centuryAmber Fort and enjoy wonderfulviews of the surroundingcountryside and town below. We’lltravel up and down the hill by Jeep!After lunch at a local restaurant wevisit the City Palace, an imposingblend of traditional Rajasthan andMughal architecture. Adjacent to theCity Palace is the not-to-be-missedastronomical observatory, JantarMantar. The collection ofinstruments here includes a 90 foothigh sundial, accurate to 2 seconds!_______________________________

Sun 14 Mar Jaipur to Kolkata An early morning flight from Jaipurwill take us direct to Kolkata,(formerly Calcutta), the capital ofIndia's West Bengal state. Foundedas an East India Company tradingpost, it was India's capital under theBritish Raj from 1773–1911.

Today, Kolkata is known for its grandcolonial architecture, art galleriesand cultural festivals.

It’s here we embark our privatelychartered luxury cruise ship, GangesVoyager. Time to settle in and enjoylunch on board. During theafternoon, an included, but optionalexcursion to visit the headquartersof the Missionaries of Charity,founded by Mother Teresa. _______________________________

Mon 15 Mar Kolkata / BandelBefore our afternoon sailing, apanoramic Kolkata City Tourfeaturing some of the well-preserved British colonial buildings,for instance the General Post Office,High Court, Governor’s House, TownHall and Victoria Memorial Museum.

Back on board our ship for lunch, weset sail through areas where variousEuropean settlers established EastIndian Companies.

In the afternoon we visit Bandel, oneof the famous Shia pilgrimagecentres in West Bengal.

Tue 16 Mar KalnaThis morning, an included rickshawride in the city of Kalna, with a visitto Nava Kailash, a stunning complexof 108 temples - 74 in an outer circleand another 34 making an innercircle. This afternoon we set sailtowards Matiari._______________________________

Wed 17 Mar Matiari / Khushbagh An early-morning visit to the villageof Matiari, known for manufacturingbeautiful handcrafted brass pots andsouvenirs from recycled copper.

Continuing our journey upstream,we sail past the Plassey Battlefield,where Robert Clive of the BritishEast India Company defeated theMoghul Nawabs in 1757.

Early evening, we visit a charmingMoghul-style garden in the village ofKhushbagh.

Thu 18 Mar Baranagar / MurshidabadAfter breakfast we cruise to sleepyBaranagar. A lovely example of lifein rural India, the village is home toseveral brick temples dating fromthe 18th century and considered tobe amongst the best examples ofBengal terracotta art.

Heading downstream, a relaxingafternoon as our ship glides alongthe Lower Ganges, twisting andturning between riverbanks linedwith mustard fields and mangoorchards before arriving inMurshidabad, a hidden architecturalgem with dramatic whitewashedcolonial buildings.

We’ll visit the impressive HazarduariPalace and Museum, built in theGreek “Doric” style by an Englisharchitect, Duncan McLeod. _______________________________

Fri 19 Mar MayapurA restful morning, before our stop inthe village of Mayapur, known as thebirthplace of “Mahāprabhu", aBengali Hindu mystic, considered tobe an incarnation of Lord Krishna.

Mayapur boasts a Krishna templecomparable in size to the Vatican,largely funded by Alfred B Ford,great grandson of the car-maker,Henry Ford.

We’ll have the opportunity to meetKrishna followers and walk throughthe pilgrim’s bazaar. _______________________________

Sat 20 Mar Chandernagore This morning we sail toChandernagore, established as aFrench colony and trading post in1673.

We’ll explore the French colonialbuildings along the promenade,including the former Frenchgovernor’s residence, nowconverted to a museum that depictslife during the period. Later, we’llcontinue our journey downstream toKolkata.
