Grace and peace to my sisters and brothers at Trinity,
It has been my joy to serve as your Interim Senior Pastor these past months!
In my short time with you, I have grown to love this congregation. Trinity is
remarkable, with a remarkable past and a remarkable future in store. Thanks be
to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
You have elected Pastor Kevin McClain to be your new Senior Pastor. Pastor Kevin is young and vibrant, a hard worker, a student of the Bible! Please keep
Pastor Kevin and his family in your prayers!
The Senior Pastor of Trinity Lutheran is the president of the Parish Council
and the Congregation. Pastor Kevin will love to share the good News of Jesus
Christ. He will guard your faith and encourage your faithfulness. He will lead
and guide the Staff and volunteers. He will always ask, “How can I help Trinity
to be faithful to Christ our Lord?” You have elected an excellent Senior Pastor and surrounded him with an
excellent staff! Yet the work of this congregation requires the faithful help of
every member. According to our spiritual gifts, how can the rest of us help?
Members are not here to be served, but to serve others! Members are not to sit
in our easy chairs, expecting someone else to do all that is needed for Trinity to
be a faithful mission center. Royce, Ben and I are members of Trinity too. And
even though I may be called to help other congregations, we will do whatever
we can to help here at Trinity. I ask you to do the same. After a while, we will need to form a new Call Committee to look for a new
Associate Pastor. If you’ve never participated in a Call Committee, this will be
an excellent time. The new Call Committee will look at the strengths and needs
of Pastor Kevin and our Staff and then, prayerfully, patiently look for someone,
whether younger or older, single or married, male or female, to joyfully share
the pastoral tasks and round out our shared ministry. Please don’t wait to be
asked. Volunteer! Talk to our Council and express your interest. We would like
the committee to represent all of Trinity! My last Sunday, as the Interim Senior Pastor, will be July 26, with my final
daily Video Devotion the day after on Monday, July 27. The following weekend,
Royce and I will be on our way to visit our grandchildren in Wisconsin and then
further west to Montana to visit with old friends all along the way and back.
May our good Lord bless and keep you as you begin this new chapter in the
ministry of Trinity!
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
Trinity would like to extend our sincere
appreciation to PASTOR HUBERT for his
leadership while serving as Interim Sr. Pastor
during this transitional and unprecedented
time. Thank you Pastor Tim!

The June 9, 2020 meeting of Church Council was called to order by Pastor Tim Hubert and opened with
devotions from the Gospel of Matthew and prayer.
Newly elected Council members Stephanie Bragg, Larry Franks, Kenny Oberholtzer, and Kim Oberholtzer
were welcomed to the meeting. All Council members introduced themselves.
Pastor Tim noted the next item of business is the election of a Lay Leader who serves as VP of
Council and also chairs the Personnel Committee. Joe McFrederick volunteered to serve in the role and there
were no other nominations.
Council then selected a secretary. Stacy Prochazka volunteered to continue to serve in the role.
Council members selected committee assignments with members having the most seniority choosing first:
Pastor Tim noted the new Council will be installed at the 10:45 service in the Sanctuary this Sunday,
June 14.
It was noted if Pastor Kevin is approved as Senior Pastor, plans will need to be made for his installation. He
has 30 days to respond to a Letter of Call once offered. Pastor Koch, District Dean, can see to the installation.
Pastor Tim’s last day of work will be July 26, followed by his allotted vacation.
A $500 scholarship for a student attending a Lutheran church school that provides matching funds was
approved.
Pastor McClain noted that for the month of June the church is open for official meetings with
protocols in place for COVID requirements. It is hopeful that Sunday School will restart again in the fall. The staff
is allowed to return to the building, and also allowed to work from home as needed. Access to the building for
volunteers on Sundays is to be facilitated by McKenna Rafferty, resident in the church apartment, per
agreement. Procedures are being refined as necessary.
Jerry Morton reported Confirmation will be Saturday, June 20, and will be open only to families of
Confirmands. The service will be live streamed.
Laurie Maurer asked about the broken stained glass window in the Sanctuary. It will be repaired
soon at a cost of about $2300 and is to be covered under the insurance policy.
Pastor Koch noted for Senior Ministries that members have been surveyed to gather insight about
beginning again with sensitivity to those at-risk. Some programs have already started but plans are to take it
slowly. Thanks to the Call Committee for their work!
Staff members were excused and Council continued in executive session.

CHURCH COUNCIL AND CALL COMMITTEE COMMUNICATION
We all rejoice that Pastor Kevin McClain has accepted our call to serve as our Senior Pastor.
PRAISE TO GOD!
The Holy Spirit worked in his heart and provided the Call Committee the wisdom to listen. We look
forward to Pastor Kevin assuming full leadership responsibilities as our Senior Pastor on July 26, 2020.
Dear Trinity Lutheran Church Call Committee, Council, and Members,
It is with joy and gratitude that I humbly accept your call to serve as Senior Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. I am not unaware of the lineage of excellent pastors who have served you before me; a lineage I will strive to uphold. I know as well from my time serving you as Associate Pastor that there is much work ahead. I am confident that together we will accomplish all that God wills to work through us.
Having been called together by God’s ordaining, gathered into fellowship with one another, and enlightened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, let us strive together to fulfill God’s call, serving Him and one another as the body of Christ here in Ashland.
On behalf of both myself and my family, receive our gratitude for your continued love and support as we begin this new chapter together as a church united in Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Humbly,
Rev. Kevin McClain
O God, our awesome Father, for many months we prayed, asking that You reveal our new senior pastor to us. At
times, we were impatient and wondered how long we would have to wait. In Your good time, the Holy spirit led us to
Your answer. We praise You for bringing Pastor McClain and his family to Trinity. We now understand that his
move to Ashland was preparing him and us for a new chapter in the life of our congregation. In the name of your
Son, Jesus, we thank you for this and all the other blessings you continually bestow on us. Amen.

Many opportunities to be together in larger groups and
typical meetings like Bible study and Sunday School classes
have diminished and changed over the past few months due
to COVID-19. However, it has not taken away our
opportunities for discipleship all together. We have been able
to reach out to each other in our own homes (best place to start discipling), by phone (caring calls) and in
Zoom groups (Bible studies and prayer groups). It is amazing how God will work in all places and spaces
to allow us the ability to share the gospel with each other.
As we begin to venture out of our shelters and interact with each other in person, let us not forget what
we may have learned as we were required to slow down and spend more time on our own. Let us look at
the Marks of Discipleship as ways that we can in all times and places make the decision to reprioritize our
lives so that our faith forms and informs all we are and do. How are you doing?
If you would like to learn more about how you can grow in any of these areas, shoot me an email or text
or give me a call. I’d be happy to meet with you (safely, of course) and discuss your discipleship journey.

Discipleship and COVID-19
How are you doing?
HELP WANTED: Trinity has been enrolled in the Stephen Series for 2 years! Stephen Ministry trains and organizes laypeople to do one-on-one caring ministry to people in need, equipping people with the basic skills of helping others who are hurting. Through this ministry, the whole church is built up and made stronger.
Most recently, Stephen Ministers along with other caring individuals from the congregation have been making phone calls to all our members for support and help. We have seen how beneficial it is to have trained Stephen Ministers in the congregation on a regular basis and in times of crisis.
Between now and September, Trinity will be recruiting Stephen Ministers and training will begin in September. We are looking for people who like to learn and listen. Perhaps you (or someone you know) would like to consider learning more about becoming a Stephen Minster? If you would like more information about Stephen Ministry, contact Michelle Vanderzyden at the church, through e-mail, [email protected], or by phone at 419-651-1564.

Father, Help us to meditate upon your Holiness and allow the
Holy Spirit to instill into our lives a proper reverence for You,
Almighty One. In these days of summer, a time of rest and
renewal, family and fun; help keep us mindful of ways to give
back to You, from all You've entrusted to us, both from our
abundance and our lives. Thanksgiving is a virtue that grows
through practice. Teach us the art of thankful hearts. In Christ
Jesus, Amen.
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Ohio! We will be accepting donations through Sunday, September 13, with items being taken to Cleveland for

Clothes (bagged) - men's, women's and children's - shoes, fashion accessories, belts, purses, bags, and backpacks.
Household Textiles (bagged) - blankets, sheets, towels, tablecloths, curtains.
Small Household Goods (boxed) - kitchen items, decorative items, knick-knacks, toys and games, small electronics in good working order.
WE CANNOT TAKE: Mattresses, large furniture, chemicals, auto parts, tires, flammable material, strollers, car seats, building

We are trying to collect 2,500 lbs. of soft goods (that’s 120- 33 gallon size trash bags!) and as many boxes of small household items as we can collect.
Please help us by not giving dirty, torn clothing or household items that have passed their usefulness. We will not get paid for these items, and may possibly be penalized for them.

Moms in Prayer International typically meets only while students are in school but we felt that we needed to continue throughout the summer as we continue in this time of uncertainty about the next school year. One hour a week in scriptural, conversational prayer with other moms for our schools and your children can make a world of difference! Now is a great time to join in and pray for them as we journey into the next school year.
If you are interested in participating and joining us, please contact Michelle Vanderzyden through e-mail
at [email protected] or call, 419-651-1564.
Each week thousands of groups meet in more than 70 countries for chapter-by-chapter Bible study. Hundreds of thousands of members around the world, studying God's Word together. Verse-by-verse, we approach the Bible as God's Truth, to be studied, savored and lived out. We believe God's Word speaks across cultures to every one of our 400,000+ members around the world. Whether new to the Bible or a seasoned reader, we explore Scripture together. This fall we will begin our study of the book of Genesis.
BSF in Ashland is open to any woman who would like to participate in a meaningful Bible study with other women (this fall of 2020, a men’s class will also be available as close as Wooster). If you would like more information about joining BSF, visit www.bsfinternational.org or contact Michelle Vanderzyden at [email protected] or 419-289-2126.

VBS WRAP UP The parking lot was empty. The building was locked. The hallways were quiet, BUT VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2020 STILL HAPPENED!! Rocky Railway went in a whole new direction this year, with a virtual presence that reached far beyond our county boundaries. We had kids in Los Angeles, in Michigan and in Washington D.C. enjoy Bible School on-line. We heard from over 140 kids who requested materials, and many sent us pictures of the week. The theme: “Jesus’ power pulls us through,” was very pertinent for this crazy time! We hope to be in the building next year, but no matter what, we will always work to spread the Gospel through Bible school in whatever form we can! Thank you for all your prayer and financial support. We needed every bit of both.
Covid-19 put our plans on hold but we are ready to make up for lost time with a new plan to
prepare for our packing party.
We were collecting hygiene kits before we were interrupted, but are ready to accept your health
kits. We are in great need of toothbrush holders, soap, and washcloths. These hygiene gifts will be a
welcome gift to help fight the virus. Please place items in the white laundry baskets found in the
Gathering Space, and outside Jack’s Place.
As the time approaches for children to return to school, please utilize the Ohio School Supply tax
exemption the weekend of August 7-9. Items that we would like to include in each box are pencils,
pencil sharpeners, erasers (large or pencil caps), crayons, colored pencils, ink pens, scissors, and small
notebooks.
Thank you to our members who have been busy during their stay-at-home time making various
items including games, and book bags.

Montessori has specially prepared inviting materials, but Montessori isn’t just about the materials. A child’s ability to read and write will be of little value if they lack self-confidence, a positive attitude or simply don’t enjoy learning. We make learning fun and encourage the love of learning. We embrace the whole child and strive to give each a personalized education.

I first want to say “Great Job!” to our Beacon students who worked hard and adapted to many
changes as they finished the school year at home. One of our students, Ephraim Hong, and his
family moved to California in June. The Hong Family (Esther, Ezra, Bekah, and Ephraim) are also
Trinity members. We were able to say goodbye with a drive-thru farewell parade in Trinity’s parking
lot on May 30. Thank you to those who came to wish them well on their new adventure! Ephraim will
be greatly missed at Beacon, but we know there are great things in store for his family in California.
We are continuing to accept donations toward the purchase of Walmart gift cards for our Beacon
families during this time. Donations to our Beacon fund help us serve our students and their families
year after year. If you would like to make a donation, checks can be mailed to the church, attn:
