Luke 19,Palm SundayThe Triumphal Entry, The King Who ComesLets Open Our Bibles To Luke 19:28-42Jesus' Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem,Luke 19:28, Blessed Is The KingNAU Luke 19:28 After He had said these things, He was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount that is called Olivet, He sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, "Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 "If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' you shall say, 'The Lord has need of it.'" 32 So those who were sent went away and found it just as He had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, "Why are you untying the colt?" 34 They said, "The Lord has need of it." 35 They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As He was going, they were spreading their coats on the road. 37 As soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, 38 shouting: "BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! [I could only find this in Luke] 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." 40 But Jesus answered, "I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!" 41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, "If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.Luke 19:38, Why The King? Why did the people (and the Holy Spirit who inspired Luke to record it) add the King when king is not used in Psalm 118?NAU Psalm 118:26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD; We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.There are commandments to not add to the Word of God in both the OT and NT;Deuteronomy 4:2, 12:32, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18 nullJohn 12:13, Luke 19:38The Predictions of the KingWhy would the people add The King in Luke 19:38?NAU Isaiah 11:1-12, 9 They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea. 10 Then it will come about in that day That the nations will resort [NKJthe Gentiles shall seek Him] to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal [5251,a standard, ensign, signal, sign] for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious. 11 Then it will happen on that day that the Lord Will again recover the second time with His hand The remnant of His people, who will remain, From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, And from the islands of the sea. 12 And He will lift up a standard for the nations, And will assemble the banished ones of Israel, And will gather the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earthNAU Isaiah 24:23 Then the moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed, For the LORD of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, And His glory will be before His elders.nullLuke 19:38The Predictions of the KingNAU Amos 9:11 "In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of DavidAnd rebuild it as in the days of olddays are coming," declares the LORD, "When the plowman will overtake the reaper And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; When the mountains will drip sweet wine, And all the hills will be dissolved. 14 "Also I will restore the captivity of My people Israel, And they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them, They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine, And make gardens and eat their fruit. 15 "I will also plant them on their land, And they will not again be rooted out from their land Which I have given them," Says the LORD your God.NAU Micah 4:6 "In that day," declares the LORD, "I willgather the outcasts, Even those whom I have afflicted. 7 "I will make the outcasts a strong nation, And the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion From now on and forever. 8 Zion, To you it will come-- Even the former dominion will come, The kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem. 9 "Now, why do you cry out loudly? We are told that the crowds wave palm branches and shout Hosanna! (Mark 11:9). This is rather odd because it is happening a week before Passover. In the Jewish tradition the waving of palm branches and the singing of Hosanna takes place during the autumn Festival of Booths (Sukkot), not the spring Festival of Passover. The explanation for this apparent confusion might be found in the original meaning of the words found in the Gospels. Hosanna comes from the Hebrew hoshia-na meaning save us, please found in Psalm 118:25. The original name of Jesus in Hebrew, Yeshua, is built on the same root: to save. So the crowds have spontaneously devised a new ritual, welcoming the messianic savior to Jerusalem using a well-known phrase out of season. The waving of palm branches in April would have struck bystanders as very odd until they realized that Hosanna matches the name of Jesus perfectly. It would then be clear that indeed this is the one who comes in the name of the Lord (Ps 118:26).http://holylandstudies.eteacherbiblical.com/palm-sunday/http://holylandstudies.eteacherbiblical.com/palm-sunday/Palm Sunday Jesus Last JourneyByJonathan Lipnick/ Nov 17, 2014/Holy Land Studies/Zechariah 9:9Humble And Mounted On A Donkey

(John 1:5, 3:19, Heb. 2:14, Eph 2:2, 2Cor 4:4).Christ will return when Israel repents and reign as King from Jerusalem and over all the earth (Rev 20, 1 Cor. 15:26).Christ will give the kingdom of this world back to God, forever (1 Cor. 15:28; Rev. 21-22). John 8:12 John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

Each of the four Gospels records this incident, though with distinctive details... Central to each report is Jesus' deliberate choice to enter the city riding up on a donkey. Scholars have noted three significant points regarding this chosen mount. These aspects are not mutually exclusive, and each contributes to a more complete appreciation of the meaning of Jesus' symbolic action and it's decisive consequences: The donkey was a traditional mount for kings and rulers in the ancient near East...; Jesus was therefore making an implicit claim to be the king of his people. The act of riding into Jerusalem on a donkey near the The Archaeological Study Bible on page 1596, under the heading of A King Riding on a Donkey: Cultural SignificanceOne Of The Most Significant Eventstime of the Passover celebration invoked a central image of Messianic expectation, linked to key Biblical texts... Two of the four Evangelists explained the significance of Jesus entrance explicitly as the fulfillment of Scripture.... In Jewish literature and teaching, moreover, the image of a king on a donkey approaching Jerusalem was consistently understood to signify the arrival of the Messianic King. Thus, Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah and proclaiming that the age of restoration was dawning through his own person. In light of the frequent Old Testament association of horses with war and human pride, the donkey may have presented an image of peaceful humility. Jesus, in this interpretation, was making a statement regarding the nature of his kingship."The Archaeological Study Bible on page 1596, under the heading of A King Riding on a Donkey: Cultural SignificanceIll Summarize This Significant EventThe donkey =kings and rulers, Jesus was claiming to be the king of his people. ReaganWhen will the Rapture occur?Dr. Reagan:This is the fifth and last part of a series where I interview Roberta Roberts Potts concerning various topics related to Bible prophecy.Dr. Reagan:Let me ask you another question. This is a hotly debated one concerning the timing of the Rapture. There are a lot of people who believe in a Rapture, many don't, but many do. They will debate the timing of the Rapture, whether it is going to happen near the end of the Tribulation, or before it begins, or even in the middle? Do you have any opinion about the timing of the Rapture? We both know the Bible doesn't clearly say when the Rapture is going to occur. You have to pretty much figure it out, deducing when from what the Bible says. So, what is your opinion?Roberta Potts:I believe we are going to escape God's coming wrath. One reason I believe that is because Jesus picked two particular Bible personalities when He said the end times are going to be like the days of... Noah and Lot. Both these guys lived centuries apart. The only thing I know they really had in common was that they both faced a coming cataclysm and they both escaped.Certainly it would have been different if Jesus had said it is going to be just like the days of Jeremiah. After all, Jeremiah predicted a terrible, terrible upheaval which he didn't escape. He had to live through it.Or, Jesus could have said the last days were going to be like the days of Daniel. Well, Daniel was taken captive during that same upheaval and he didn't escape.Jesus didn't say those days were going to be like the days of Jeremiah, nor the days of Daniel. No, He said they'd be like the days of Noah and Lot, both of who were removed from the coming destruction. The proof that's kind of the capstone for me is when Jesus tells us to always be on the watch and pray that we might be counted worthy to escape. So, I'm going to do just that and be watching and praying, because I want to escape.Dr. Reagan:You've taken that right out of Luke 21:36. There Jesus says we are to pray that we are to escape the coming Tribulation. I have people attacking me all the time accusing, "You're just an escapist." I plead guilty. Jesus tells us there in Luke 21 to be an escapist. I pray to escape as others through time have prayed.People will also say, "You just don't want to suffer for the Lord." I reply, "When you take a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ, you are going to suffer for the Lord." The Bible says there is going to be tribulation for believers. But, I'm talking about escaping the Great Tribulation. I'm not talking about the tribulation that we're going to experience as a result of harassment and persecution. We're certainly going to experience that. No, we're talking about escaping the Great Tribulation as described in Luke 21.The most important point that I would make concerning the timing of the Rapture is imminence. The Bible says that the Lord can return at any moment. We're to watch for His return at any moment. When you stop and think about what we call the Second Coming, certainly that can't happen at any moment because there are too many prophecies that have to be fulfilled before the Second Coming occurs. But, there's not one that has to be fulfilled before the Rapture occurs. I'm never told to watch for the Antichrist. I'm told to watch for Jesus Christ.Roberta Potts:Absolutely!"What is Palm Sunday? GotQuestions.orgQuestion: "What is Palm Sunday? http://www.gotquestions.org/Printer/qotw-PF.html Answer: Palm Sunday is the day we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, exactly one week before His resurrection (Matthew 21:111). As Jesus entered the holy city, He neared the culmination of a long journey toward Golgotha. He had come to save the lost (Luke 19:10), and now was the timethis was the placeto secure that salvation. Palm Sunday marked the start of what is often called Passion Week, the final seven days of Jesus earthly ministry. Palm Sunday was the beginning of the end of Jesus work on earth.

Palm Sunday began with Jesus and His disciples traveling over the Mount of Olives. The Lord sent two disciples ahead into the village of Bethphage to find an animal to ride. They found the unbroken colt of a donkey, just as Jesus had said they would (Luke 19:2930). When they untied the colt, the owners began to question them. The disciples responded with the answer Jesus had provided: The Lord needs it (Luke 19:3134). Amazingly, the owners were satisfied with that answer and let the disciples go. They brought [the donkey] to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it (Luke 19:35).

As Jesus ascended toward Jerusalem, a large multitude gathered around Him. This crowd understood that Jesus was the Messiah; what they did not understand was that it wasnt time to set up the kingdom yetalthough Jesus had tried to tell them so (Luke 19:1112). The crowds actions along the road give rise to the name Palm Sunday: A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road (Matthew 21:8). In strewing their cloaks on the road, the people were giving Jesus the royal treatmentKing Jehu was given similar honor at his coronation (2 Kings 9:13). John records the detail that the branches they cut were from palm trees (John 12:13).

On that first Palm Sunday, the people also honored Jesus verbally: The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, Hosanna to the Son of David! / Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! / Hosanna in the highest heaven! (Matthew 21:9). In their praise of Jesus, the Jewish crowds were quoting Psalm 118:2526, an acknowledged prophecy of the Christ. The allusion to a Messianic psalm drew resentment from the religious leaders present: Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, Teacher, rebuke your disciples! (Luke 19:39). However, Jesus saw no need to rebuke those who told the truth. He replied, I tell you . . . if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out (Luke 19:40).

Some 450 to 500 years prior to Jesus arrival in Jerusalem, the prophet Zechariah had prophesied the event we now call Palm Sunday: Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! / Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! / See, your king comes to you, / righteous and victorious, / lowly and riding on a donkey, / on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Zechariah 9:9). The prophecy was fulfilled in every particular, and it was indeed a time of rejoicing, as Jerusalem welcomed their King. Unfortunately, the celebration was not to last. The crowds looked for a Messiah who would rescue them politically and free them nationally, but Jesus had come to save them spiritually. First things first, and mankinds primary need is spiritual, not political, cultural, or national salvation.

Even as the coatless multitudes waved the palm branches and shouted for joy, they missed the true reason for Jesus presence. They could neither see nor understand the cross. Thats why, as [Jesus] approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peacebut now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies . . . will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of Gods coming to you (Luke 19:4147). It is a tragic thing to see the Savior but not recognize Him for who He is. The crowds who were crying out Hosanna! on Palm Sunday were crying out Crucify Him! five days later (Matthew 27:2223).

There is coming a day when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:1011). The worship will be real then. Also, John records a scene in heaven that features the eternal celebration of the risen Lord: There before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands (Revelation 7:9, emphasis added). These palm-bearing saints will shout, Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb (verse 10), and who can measure sum of their joy?

Question: "What is Passion Week / Holy Week?"

Answer: Passion Week (also known as Holy Week) is the time from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday). Also included within Passion Week are Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Passion Week is so named because of the passion with which Jesus willingly went to the cross in order to pay for the sins of His people. Passion Week is described in Matthew chapters 21-27; Mark chapters 11-15; Luke chapters 19-23; and John chapters 12-19. Passion Week begins with the triumphal entry on Palm Sunday on the back of a colt as prophesied in Zechariah 9:9.

Passion Week contained several memorable events. Jesus cleansed the Temple for the second time (Luke 19:45-46), then disputed with the Pharisees regarding His authority. Then He gave His Olivet Discourse on the end times and taught many things, including the signs of His second coming. Jesus ate His Last Supper with His disciples in the upper room (Luke 22:7-38), then went to the garden of Gethsemane to pray as He waited for His hour to come. It was here that Jesus, having been betrayed by Judas, was arrested and taken to several sham trials before the chief priests, Pontius Pilate, and Herod (Luke 22:54-23:25).

Following the trials, Jesus was scourged at the hands of the Roman soldiers, then was forced to carry His own instrument of execution (the Cross) through the streets of Jerusalem along what is known as the Via Dolorosa (way of sorrows). Jesus was then crucified at Golgotha on the day before the Sabbath, was buried and remained in the tomb until Sunday, the day after the Sabbath, and then gloriously resurrected.

It is referred to as Passion Week because in that time, Jesus Christ truly revealed His passion for us in the suffering He willingly went through on our behalf. What should our attitude be during Passion Week? We should be passionate in our worship of Jesus and in our proclamation of His Gospel! As He suffered for us, so should we be willing to suffer for the cause of following Him and proclaiming the message of His death and resurrection.

In John 12:1 it says:Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, and then verse 12 says, The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast So, according to John 12:1, Jesus was in Bethany 6 days before the 14th of the month, that is He was there on the 8th of the month, and the next day is the 9th of the month, the day when the multitude went out to meet Him and cried out Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!, and it was not on the 10th of the month.A. We know Jesus entered Jerusalem on Psalm Sunday.John 12:1says Jesus had come to Bethany six days before Passover, but it doesnt say He had a big dinner that same night and left the next morning. Since Palm Sunday was the 10th, the ninth would have been a Saturday, which was the Sabbath, and the 8th, the day Jesus arrived, was a Friday. From sunset Friday to sunset Saturday no work was allowed, and that included travel. Therefore, since the dinner was given on the night before Palm Sunday, it had to have taken place on Saturday after sunset when the Sabbath ended.http://gracethrufaith.com/ask-a-bible-teacher/a-palm-sunday-question/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Gracethrufaith+%28GraceThruFaith%29http://gracethrufaith.com/ask-a-bible-teacher/a-palm-sunday-question/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Gracethrufaith+%28GraceThruFaith%29Genesis 7:1, genea Gen 7:1-4 The Lord then said to Noah, "Go [come] into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation [lineage]. di,kaion evnanti,on mou evn th/| genea/| (in the genea)Luke 21:32-33 "I tell you the truth, this generation (genea) will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
