Where the West Meets the EastLublin is said to be the most Western City

in the East and the most Eastern City in the

West. 700-year-long history of the City is full

of the events that changed Poland and Europe.

The City’s historical heritage, embracing tradition

as well as cultural and religious diversity, created

magical climate that is perceivable and

experienceable, and that inspires to take business,

cultural, and artistic, science initiative.

Economic Lublin – City Profile?Economic growth boosting infrastructure changes

Lublin in an unbelievable way. Large-sized industrial

companies and high-tech investments do not, however,

mark Lublin out among other cities in Poland.

Our operations integrate culture, science and business.Lublin’s exceptional volume of academic resources

contributes considerably to the City’s identity,

welfare and attractiveness. We support cultural

and intellectual development, which helps to keep

talents in the City. Development of knowledge,

creativity, innovation is boosted to encourage

collaboration initiative among culture, science,

and business.

Renaissance mentality

What is the impact upon economy? The foundation of Lublin’s entrepreneurship was created over hundreds

of years of history, thanks to lives of people who at the crossroads

of cultures and religions found their homes, work, passion and inspiration.

The most creative solutions arise in extraordinary circumstances. There are

places where ideas come more easily. All it takes is open mind, stimulate

imagination and brake old patterns. Business needs inspiration.

Small-sized niche businesses that drive the economic development

Open minds and non-stereotypical thinking

Sustainable means of production

Intelligent management of natural resources

Why are we unique? We believe that a big, friendly, and safe city is the

most suitable space to live in. Metropolises, improving

operational and developmental standards, become

open and tolerant, making its name for a comfortable

place to live and do business in.

Promotion of Creativeness. We focus on small-sized, creative entrepreneurship,

searching for interesting, creative individuals with

business prospects. We are inspired by

non-stereotypical, unique ideas and solutions.

We aim at inspiring others with solutions that

inspire us. Supporting the promotion of the most

interesting solutions we integrate entrepreneurs,

creators, and scientists. We are networking

the small-sized creative ones with the large-sized

wealthy ones. On creative entrepreneurship profile

do we build our competitive advantage.

Krzysztof Chmiel.A car mechanic who exchanged box spanners for

a gluer, a bar bender. In his garage he designs and

builds monumental man-powered street cruisers.

He hand-crafts enormous, steel customs: low riders,

cruisers and choppers. Frames are size tailored

and every bike detail is made according to

individual designs. Rafu Bikes are found even

in the British Isles.

Katarzyna Lipska.A midwife breeding one of the largest Polish

insect breedings aimed for reptile feed.

She specialises in wholesale of grasshoppers,

locust, and superworm and mealworm larvas.

The insect breeding is complemented

by the gecko hatchery – a hot and humid room

with a thousand of small boxes in which we can

find almost every available colour variety.

The products are sent to markes accross Europe

by chains of wholesalers and pet shops.

Arek Szwed.A graphic artist who left his good job in advertising

for pottery. In his studio, he creates unique clay

masterpices of craft. Apart from stylish sushi

sets, grotesque figures of owls, hares

and unicorns emerge from his ceramic kiln.

He specialises in angels. Slightly diabolical angels.

Beata Sanocka. Her bookbinding workshop is replete with fabric

textures and colourful threads. Even the smallest

scraps of material are useful here. They give life

to tiny works of tailoring and bookbinding art:

miniature books and figurines that later turn into

neck charms and earings. Author’s bindings

of books and journals are made of bigger scraps.

Almost everyting here constitutes a manual,

meticoulous work and an extraordinary attention

to detail. The handicraft is supported with

technology – in the corner of the workshop, there

is a digitally programmed embroidering machine

and next to it… a prewar press.

Marcin Sudziński.A beekeeper who revives the nineteenth-century

collodion technique in his photographic studio.

His work resembles rather alchemy than working

with photosensitive material. When treated with

liquid collodion, exposed and immpediately

developed, glass plates turn into phenomenal

portraits with stains and spots of the era when

electricity was a technical novely.

Mariusz Kozak.A constructor and inventor whose ideas emerging

in a small workshop in Świdnik may revolutionise

global bicycle industry. His globaly recognised

brand Soul Kozak is a synonym of high class

ultra-light bicycle components. The M-netic

concept, that has been recently patented,

is a milestone in the construction evolution of the

rear hub, inspired by the giant superconducting

solenoid of the Swiss institute CERN.

Zbigniew and Bartłomiej Kawalec.

Walls of a cozy, slightly Scandinavian studio near

the Bystrzyca River are occupied with at least

a hundred fishing rods. Extraordinary works arise

from the need to adapt new systemic solutions

to specific expectations and habits of anglers.

As one of the few in Poland , the two-person

family business has been manufacturing individual

custom-made fishing rods since the 1970s. Each

item constitutes a handmade, unique design

which, apart from personalised ergonomics,

is an image of the aestheric expectations of the

customer. For the most demanding clients,

quality teak, mahogany and walnut handles

are available, as well as specially turned rings,

artistic ornaments and colours of seizing twine

of eyelets. All fishing rods are marked with

a symbol of a flying fish of Kawalec Rod Design

Iwona Kutnik.Professional passion for fashion and need for

independance made her turn her carer

of a designer of a well-known Polish Pomeranian

clothing brand into her own studio in Lublin.

She is one of the more and more recognised

and appreciated young Polish designers.

She specialises in women’s fashion and her

collections consist of proposals mainly from

the prêt-à-porter category. She successfully

contributes to the fashion landscape of the city

and her charming studio enjoys more and more

loyal customers.

Ireneusz Jerzy Trocki.A rider and horse lover. If we look closely,

we can find him in majority of Polish historical

film productions with horseriding scenes.

Nevertheless, above all he is a graphic

and metalwork artist. Only those initiated can

find his Old Town workshop with a unique

ambience saturated with the smell of chemicals.

He has been running it since early 1980s

and he is one of the few masters in Lublin who

still use old printing techniques, including almost

completely forgotten zincography. He makes

the vast majority of medals and breastplated

intended for the commercial market as well

as badges worn by Polish Armed Forces

and most of the uniformed formations.

Beata Stelmaszczuk. She is a doctor of books and old prints which she

aectionately calls ”objects”. She saves them from

oblivion and degradation and gives them a second

life by restoring their splendour and preserving

the material evidence of history for posterity.

A woodcarver artist by profession, she uses her

talent to join the world of science and art with

good old bookbinding craft. Her creative space

is the library department of book protection and

conservation.

Artur Skrocki. He dabbles in the limitless artistic mettalurgy

craftsmanship. He has practiced goldsmithery

in jewellery workshops of Old Europe and framed

diamonds in South-African Durban. He is a mine

of information about titanium and its treatment.

He was one of the first Polish designers of

titanium jewellery. He specialises in mokume –

gane, a rare and laborious seventeenth-century

Japanese art of metallurgy consisting in mixing

precious metals. Each piece of jewellery leaving his

studio has a unique value as it is one of a kind.

Anna Kośka.Her dolls are not toys for well-behaved girls.

They are disturbing models of miniaturised haute

couture adorning shelves of people aware of their

unique beauty. Although her fantasies sometimes

take the form of a fairytale angel or a little goat,

the dolls leaving the studio are almost entirely

extraordinary women. The characters are

well-known or imaginary but above all original.

Shee seeks inspiration in pop culture, creates

thematic lines, realises people’s fantasies. In her

home studio she has already created such

personalities as Marylin Monroe, Madonna, Amy

Winehouse and Lana Del Rey. There are always

emotions and an idividual story connected with

each character. Each one of them involves passion

and imagination.

SPACE

INFORMATION

Our vision of future.Changing climate and nature of urban space are

conductive to the growth of the creative class:

freelancers and independent specialists. In the city,

there are more and more places open to people

working outside the oce or home: library-cafes,

co-working spaces and media-labs. The City Centre

is not only a gastronomic and entertainment hub

but also a creative space where designer studios,

workshops engaged in unusual handicrafts, small

printing houses and traditional photographic studios

are springing up like weeds. The landscape is

complemented by the largest universities that have

joined forces and created a model joint business

incubator that constitutes a model for other cities.

Lublin eectively supports talents by providing

active help in building a connection network that

facilitates acquisition of contracts and jobs.

Innovative ideas are used in communication

regarding city’s economic potential leading to more

opportunities to find an investor or a business

partner. We help the best to globalise their local

business.
