Is LTE-Advanced another new Technology?
l Experience from GSM and WCDMA confirmsl The first release after introduction of a new technology includes only
few leftovers not finalized in the initial release.l The second release after introduction of a new technology includes
more significant features / improvements.

Is LTE-Advanced another new Technology?l The same holds true for LTEl Significant features will be added into LTE Rel-10 in order to
meet IMT-Advanced requirementsl In consequence LTE-Advanced is not a new technology but an
evolution of LTE Rel-8.

IMT-Advanced Key Requirements
l The ITU has coined the term IMT-Advanced to identify mobilebroadband systems whose capabilities go beyond those of IMT 2000.
l Requirementsl Enhanced peak data rates to support advanced services and applications
– 100 Mbps DL for high mobility– 1 Gbps DL / 500 Mbps UL for low mobility
l Increased spectrum efficieny (> 30 bps/Hz)
l Other requirements includel Compatibility of services within IMT and with fixed networks,l Capability of interworking with other radio access systems,l High quality mobile services,l User equipment suitable for worldwide use,l User-friendly applications, services and equipment,l Worldwide roaming capability,l Etc.

3GPP Release 10 and ITU Schedule
l 3GPP LTE-Advanced (Rel-10 and beyond) meets these requirements andhas been submitted as a candidate radio interface technology forIMT-Advanced.
l 3GPP and ITU standardisation schedule are aligned

l Wider LTE transmission bandwidth by aggregating severalfrequency blocks (component carriers)l Support for contiguous (inter-band) and non-contiguous (intra-band)
component carriersl Up to 100 MHz transmission bandwidth when aggregating 5 component
carriersl Each component carrier is backwards compatible with Rel-8 LTE
l Benefitsl High peak data rate of 1 Gbpsl Backwards compatible with Rel-8 LTEl Flexible spectrum usage and deployment

LTE-AdvancedCarrier Aggregation - Deployment
l Initial LTE-Advanced deployments will likely be limited tothe use of two component carriers
l 3GPP have identified 4 deployment scenarios
September 2010 | LTE-Advanced | 12
LTE-AdvancedCarrier Aggregation - Details
l Primary cell / secondary celll Activation / de-activation of CCsl Scheduling
l Parallel transmission of multiplecomponent carriers
l There is one transport block (inabsence of spatial multiplexing) andone HARQ entity per scheduledcomponent carrier (from the UEperspective),
l Two different approaches arediscussed how to inform the UE aboutthe scheduling for each band,– Separate PDCCH for each carrier,– Common PDCCH for multiple carrier,
l UL: Parallel transmission of multipleRel-8 component carriers

LTE-AdvancedCoMP - Basicsl Coordinated multiple point transmission & receptionl CoMP aims to turn the inter-cell interference into a useful signal
specifically at the cell border to enhance cell edge throughput
Multiple geographically separated eNBs
September 2010 | LTE-Advanced | 14
LTE-AdvancedCoMP - Basics
Data transmitted from oneeNB but user scheduling /beamforming decisions aremade with coordinationamong cells
Data transmittedfrom one eNB at atime
Data transmittedsimultaneously frommultiple eNBs
Data available at serving cellonly
Data available at each transmission point
Dynamic cellselection
Joint transmission
Coordinated Scheduling /Beamforming
Joint Processing
CoMP – Transmission (Downlink)
Scheduling is coordinatedamong cells
UE UL signal (PUSCH) is received andprocessed by multiple eNBs
CoMP – Reception (Uplink)
September 2010 | LTE-Advanced | 15
LTE-AdvancedEnhanced MIMO Schemes
l LTE-Advanced specifiesl Up to MIMO 8x8 in downlinkl Up to MIMO 4x4 in uplinkl to increase spectrum efficiency
and throughput
l Downlink reference signal structure enhancedl UE specific demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) targeting PDSCH
demodulationl Cell specific channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS)
for CQI, PMI, RI
l New Rel-10 specific uplink transmission modesl single antenna port model multi antenna port mode
September 2010 | LTE-Advanced | 16
LTE-AdvancedRelaying
l Relaying enhances cell coverage and capacityl UE communicates with a relay eNB, which in turn
communicates with a donor eNBl LTE-Advanced defines 2 types of relay nodes
Type 2Type 1
Inband relay nodeOutband relay node
September 2010 | LTE-Advanced | 17
LTE-AdvancedEnhanced uplink SC-FDMA
l The uplink transmissionscheme in Rel-10LTE-Advanced remainsSC-FDMA.
l Two enhancementsl Control-data decoupling
(simultaneous PUSCHand PUCCH transmission)
l Non-contiguousdata transmission(clusters of subcarrierscan be allocated)
