    3. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This TN provides the guidelines for an existing LTE-GSM RF Sharing system where LTE radio resources are to be updated. This TN is not applicable for an LTE-GSM RF sharing system that is new to be installed and commissioned.

    4. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Currently there are no explicit descriptions to tell the order of LTE-GSM system update if LTE is to have its radio resources updated. It is understood that sequence of system update is crucial because an additional module reset is required if this update order is not followed. For LTE-GSM RF sharing configuration the LTE system module shall be the master system module and the GSM system module shall be the slave system module. The LTE system has static radio resource configuration, while the GERAN system supports dynamic resource configuration so it can take the remaining TX and RX resources from the shared RF unit. Therefore, the GSM system module requires information about the LTE carriers configuration, and the GSM configuration does need to be updated in case one of the following resources is to be changed on the LTE side:

antenna mapping MIMO setting carrier power frequency (earfcn) bandwidth antenna line management when adding MHA radio module external fault lines filter center TX frequency

Configuration of shared objects is only allowed from the master unit. This means the radio resource configuration changes in GSM side will not be taken into effect until the shared RF unit restart. Then to minimize the service impact it is recommended to update GSM (slave) system first. After the GSM (slave) configuration is updated, the LTE (master) configuration activation will trigger another complete restart on GSM and shared RF objects, so the new configuration can be used after the LTE system restart.

In case LTE (master) configuration update is activated before GSM(slave), this leads to a situation that GSM configuration is not valid to RF and resource collision could happen between LTE and GSM system. As shared RF objects update is only allowed from the master so RF unit block and unblock is required to sync the new configuration after GSM updated. This activation order is not applicable to a LTE-GSM RF sharing system that is new to be installed and commissioned.

    5. SOLUTION / INSTRUCTIONS

The required procedure to update LTE-GSM RF sharing system if one of the following radio resources is to be updated at LTE side:

antenna mapping MIMO setting carrier power frequency (earfcn) bandwidth antenna line management when adding MHA radio module external fault lines filter center TX frequency

Preconditions BTS's are commissioned in both technologies. The connection is established and operational to BTS's controllers

    1. The user shall be able to plan new configuration for RF sharing GSM and LTE 2. The user shall prepare and check consistency of plan that contains new LTE

configurations. 3. The new plan is provisioned to GSM (slave) technology. The plan is delivered to each NE

    specified in the plan.

    4. The GSM plan is activated when the LTE is up and running. 5. After that the LTE (master) plan is downloaded. The plan is delivered to each NE specified

    in the plan.

    6. The LTE plan is activated and the whole eNB and BCF (including RF and SM) is restarted. 7. The LTE (master) is able to use the new configuration. 8. When the LTE GSM restart is over, both the LTE and GSM networks use shared RF for

traffic. The user can verify whether the RF sharing is working properly e.g. from KPIs.
