Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

From The Wilder View . . .Isnt it amazing how things change so quickly? Yesterday we were walk-ing around in short sleeves enjoying one more day of Indian summer in St.

Louis, and today we are wearing sweatshirts. It seems to me that this year

has been a year of extremes. We have experienced great joy as we have

grown as a church in our faith walk and in our mission outreach. We have

experienced significant pain in walking with each other through sickness,

death, and loss of employment. We have shared laughter at the wonderful

things that God is doing in our midst, and we have shared tears at the chal-

lenges of friends losing jobs, and home.

I confess there have been times this year when I have said, God, I am

ready for it to get easier, only to find that the next day offers an even

greater challenge. There have also been times when I have felt so over-

whelmed I couldnt even make my brain think. And then there have been

times when I have said, God, I cant take any more of this because it is just

so wonderful. And then the next day offers an even greater blessing from

God. Maybe you can relate to those feelings and how quickly everything

can change. (continued on page 3)

There is a popular Christian song called Blink by a group call Revived. I think the words of this song can be es-

pecially meaningful for us as we embark into a season of holidays and end of the year reflection.

Teach me to number my days

And count every moment before it slips away

Taking in all the colors before they fade to gray,

I don't want to miss even just a second more of this.

When it's all said and done

No one remembers how far we have run

The only thing that matters is how we have loved

I don't want to miss even just a second more of this.

    Slow down, slow down

    Before today becomes our yesterday

    Slow down, slow down

Before you turn around and it's too late.

    It happens in a blink,

    It happens in a flash

It happens in the time it took to look back

I try to hold on tight but there's no stopping time

What is it I've done with my life

    It happens in a blink.

By the time you receive this newsletter we will have celebrated Thanksgiving Day. You might find yourself joy-fully looking forward to all of the festivities of the season, or find yourself wanting hide in solitude. No matter

how we feel, God is present with us and will sustain us through our joys and sadnesss. I invite you to take time

this Advent season to stop and listen to Gods Spirit in your life, so that you dont miss the beauty that is around

    you before it flashes by.

    Peaceful Advent

    ~Pastor Kathleen

The Loaves and Fishes ministry is a benevolence account that enables the church to support

people when they are in need. This year we have used the Loaves and Fishes ministry in

many ways. We helped people keep their lights on, provided necessary food and medicine

to survive, and helped people with their rent or application fees to get home. Thank you to

those who have contributed in the past to the Loaves and Fishes ministry. Through your

donations you have been right where people needed you at just the right time. I pray that

God will richly bless you for your support of this ministry.

    Only 1089 netsremaining!

Our Campaign to provide mosquito nets

for all of Catembe, Mozambique is ex-

ceeding expectations. Less than a month

old we are approaching the halfway

    mark!

Last year, we raised 220 nets to cover

the members of our sister church, The

    Catembe United Methodist Church.

This Years focus is on providing mos-

quito nets for everyone in the city ofCatembe. We need 2000 nets to protect

the women, children and families of

Catembe. So far we have raised enough

funds for 911 nets. So we only have

1089 nets remaining to reach our goal.

$10 Saves a Life Buy a Mosquito Net!and give the gift of a healthy life

to our brothers and sisters in Catembe!

The nets are treated so that in addition to protecting people from mos-

quito bites, any mosquito that lands on the net is dead within a few min-

utes. The result is an 82% reduction of malaria cases in the area that

    the nets have been distributed.

Mozambique is a country located on the southeast coast

of Africa. A one time colony of Portugal, independence

was gained in the 1970s and followed by a civil war. A

young country rich in resources it is still largely undevel-

oped. About 60% of its children complete primary

school. Only 7% complete a secondary education.

Malaria is a horrible disease that greatly impacts many

people. It is estimated that it kills 800,000 children each

    year in Africa.

Good Sense Financial CornerWe recognized Christ the King Sunday recently, and after the service my

thoughts turned toward how this could relate to our finances. A king requires at

    least a few things:

    1. a kingdom or location2. subjects or followers

    3. authority

In the natural realm, this involves a geographic location (country), residents of that country, and

laws providing the king authority to make decisions on the country's behalf. Often, residents

must give money to the country to provide for the king and the country's expenses.

The Kingdom of Heaven is a bit different. First, ourphysical location does not determine whether we are part of

the Kingdom we have a choice whether to make Jesus our

King and allow this spiritual kingdom to reside in our

hearts. Christ the King's authority also comes not by man-

made laws, but from God as shown to us in the Bible.

Again, we choose to live by these! For example we

choose to live out the principle of giving, and quite differ-

ent from a natural kingdom, our giving is done out of love

for our King and for others.

Our choices are important. The first choice to make Christ

our King makes an eternal difference to us individually, and the following choices to live out God's principles, such

as giving to others and the work of the Kingdom, makes an

eternal difference in our world. As we approach the Christ-

mas season, my prayer is that we each move into a deeper

understanding of what it means to give our hearts and lives,

including our possessions, to Christ our King.

    By Bethany Spaulding, C.P.A., C.M.A., C.C.S.A., C.R.P.

Consider this month in your prayer

time areas that you've marked as off

-limits to Christ your King. Maybe

it's a relationship, or a hurt from the

past. Or maybe it's your bank ac-

    count or the ever-growing collec-

tions of things in your home. Perhaps

it's the habit of gossiping or making

    not-so-nice comments about some-

one. Are you willing to give this area

to Jesus? If we say Christ is our

King...it's time that we let Him really

be King over all of our lives.

    Tip Of The Month

    With Joyful hearts,

Bob and Marilyn Bennett were enthusiastically received as New

Members on Nov. 14. Bob & Marilyn have been active here for

some time and took this opportunity to formally commit to mem-

    bership.

We are indeed blest to count Bob and Marilyn as members of our

Church Family. They truly are Gods gifts to us!

Give A Gift for All Seasons . . .Give A Gift for All Seasons . . .Give A Gift for All Seasons . . .Give A Gift for All Seasons . . .My Friends,

I have been studying a book titled Twelve Ordinary Men. This book, by John MacArthur

is old but so relevant to who we are today as Christians. It is a reminder that the apostles

were human just as we are. Jesus chose them not because they had any intrinsic ability or

outstanding talent of their own. They were Galileans and deemed low-class, rural, unedu-

cated people. They were commoners, nobodies and they were not selected because they

were more distinguished or more talented than others in Israel at the time.

MacArthur states that "Christ's choice of the apostles testifies to the fact that God can use

the unworthy and the unqualified. He can use nobodies. They turned the world upside

down, these twelve. It was not because they had extraordinary talents, unusual intellec-

tual abilities, powerful political influence, or some special social status. They turned the

world upside down because God worked in them to do it."

My prayer for all of us is to let God work in us and use us in the same way He used the

    twelve.

Let our minds be transformed through studying His word.

Let our hearts be transformed through worship and the sacraments.

Let our hands and feet become instruments through good works.

Let our witness be that of social justice for all.

Pray for the tired to be energized, the proud to be humbled,

those who are imprisoned in mind, body and spirit be freed.

Pray that the hungry are fed.

Let their mind, body and spirit be fed.

In the name of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Please don't miss the opportunities to serve.

Celebrating universal access and human rights

World AIDS Day Observed Dec. 1World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, commemorates the theme of universal access and human rights. Promotionand protection of human rights is vital in creating an effective HIV & AIDS response as we must em-power individuals and communities to respond to the pandemic."The incidence and spread of HIV/AIDS are disproportionately high among groups who already sufferfrom a lack of human rights protection," says the Program on International Health & Human Rights. Thus, as people of faith, we must break down the barriers of stigma and discrimination so that all per-

sons feel safe and have access to treatment, testing, care, and support."I am living my rights" is a key slogan for World AIDS Day 2010. Campaign slo-gans, such as this years "Light for Rights," are used to hold governments ac-

countable for their HIV & AIDS-related commitments.

    Dear Communion Confused,

Many years ago there was a committee that would

choose a specific mission project to receive an extraoffering that was associated with Communion. If

someone wanted to give an extra offering they could

leave it discreetly on the altar rail. The money wouldthen be given to a specific mission project. In the last

few years we have not had special mission projects forthe offering and it isnt expected for people to make adonation at the communion rail.

Communion is a sacrament that is a gift from God anda way that we can experience the presence of Christ in

worship. So no one expects anyone to give an offering

to receive communion. If you would like to give anextra offering on communion Sundays you can either

notate it through placing it into an envelope and writ-ing what it is for, or just drop it in the offering plate.

    Thanks for asking,
