LESSON PLAN IN ENGL 95
I. Objectives:
After the discussion, 85% of the students are expected to:
1. define instructional communication;2. determine the significance of classroom seating arrangement to instructional
communication; and3. present their own illustration of instructional communication.

A. Motivation:
The teacher will show a video presentation of “Brief History of Communication” to the class and ask the student their own view point on how to connect it to instructional communication.
B. Presentation:
The teacher will present the topic instructional communication.

I. Instructional Communication
A. Define Instructional Communication
is an interactional process between two people (a dyad), either face-to-face or through mediated forms.
B. Major Variables of Instructional Communication
Teacher, students, relationships between and among teachers and students, gender, immediacy, clarity, power, empowerment, teaching methods, learning styles, socialization, teacher and student misbehaviors, evaluations, assessing learning, humor, roles, and metaphors.
C. Major Theories of Instructional Communication
Teacher characteristics Student characteristics Teaching strategies Speech criticism and student evaluation Speech content Speech communication program
D. Different Classroom Seating Arrangements
1. Traditional Arrangement - the teacher is the primary focus here.
2. Horseshoe Arrangement - the teacher and students share the focus
3.Modular Arrangement – the teacher is removed from the focal point
E. Generalization:Instructional communication encompasses much wider concerns than teaching speech communication and it is an interactional process between two people either face-to-face or through mediated forms. Major variables and major theories are both important in the instructional communication for effective teaching. Traditional classroom seating arrangement’s primary focus is the teacher. Horseshoe classroom seating arrangement share focus with both teacher and students. Modular classroom seating arrangement removed the focal point to the teacher.
IV.Evaluation: Essay Type (5 pts. each) Discuss the following briefly:
1. What is the implication of instructional communication in education?2. If you were a teacher, what classroom seating arrangement would you choose?
V. Assignment:
Write an implication about instructional communication. Write it on one half sheet of paper. Compose of five sentences.
