WHAT IS LOW FAT DIET?

A low-fat diet is one that restricts fat and often

saturated fat and cholesterol as well. Low-fat diets

are intended to reduce diseases such as heart

disease and obesity. Reducing fat in the diet can

FUN FACTS

If you cut 500 Calories/day from your diet-you will lose weight

There is minimal to no added oil in the diet, and there are lots of

vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, fruits, and sea vegetables

When metabolized in the body, fats provide 9 calories per gram

compared to 4 calories per gram from proteins and carbohydrates

Because of this, diet plans repeatedly target reduction in fats as a good

way to lose weight

The federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005 recommends that

no more than 30% of an individual’s daily calories come from fat.
