Mental health has become a very important area of educaon and life. Research has shown that 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health issue in a year. 50% of mental health issues are established by the age of 14. As parents and teachers it is vital that we ensure our children are well equipped to manage their physical health but also their mental health. This week our children have had the opportunity to experience acvies to support their mental health well being. Acvies children have taken part in are mindfulness colouring, meditaon etc. All these acvies are used to support children in relaxing their mind from the daily stress of modern life. We are encouraging families to make lile changes to their lives such as ditching the PlayStaon pad, geng outside, making bedrooms a resul place for sleep, having dinner at the table as a family. Children’s Mental Health Week 2019 We marked Children’s Mental Health Week in school with a few acvies to highlight the importance of looking aſter ourselves. The focus this year is: Inside and Out. We learned that when we look aſter our physical health, it helps our mental health and vice versa. The two are connected. We set children a challenge to see if they could make lile changes to their lifestyles and see if they can really make a posive difference. Love of God, Love of One Another, Love of our World and Love of Learning Weekly Prayer Dear God, In this week when we are thinking about our mental well-being: Please help us to control our emoons, and health. Please help us to eat sensibly to be able to stay fit and healthy. We don’t want people to feel anxious and worried, as you have made us to enjoy life and feel ecstac. Please help us to have worry free and peaceful sleeps. Please help the homeless and poor to have a shelter. Amen By Emily—St. Philip Class

This Week’s News

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. Mental health has become a very important area of education and life. Research has shown that 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health issue in a year. 50% of mental health issues are established by the age of 14. As parents and teachers it is vital that we ensure our children are well equipped to manage their physical health but also their mental health. This week our children have had the opportunity to experience activities to support their mental health well being. Activities children have taken part in are mindfulness colouring, meditation etc. All these activities are used to support children in relaxing their mind from the daily stress of modern life. We are encouraging families to make little changes to their lives such as ditching the PlayStation pad, getting outside, making bedrooms a restful place for sleep, having dinner at the table as a family.

Weekly Prayer

Dear God, In this week when we are thinking about our mental well-being: Please help us to control our emotions, and health. Please help us to eat sensibly to be able to stay fit and healthy. We don’t want people to feel anxious and worried, as you have made us to enjoy life and feel ecstatic. Please help us to have worry free and peaceful sleeps. Year group Class / Class teacher Date and time

Year 2 St. Paul Mrs. Elvidge

Thursday 14th February at 9.00am

What’s Coming up Soon?

We asked children to try a little harder at: Eating healthily—More vegetables + less sugar Exercising well— Beating my personal best in the daily mile Getting enough sleep every day— Going to bed on time and NO technology an hour before bed We are going to continue this challenge into next week too. Some children have already made some really positive changes. This is a great opportunity to talk your child about healthy eating, exercising and sleep routines. Each child will be bringing home a record sheet to note down how these changes have made them feel and these should be returned to class by Friday 14th February. The class with the most returned and completed sheets will win some extra time outside.

Stay and Pray As part of our weekly routine at Sacred Heart, pupils and teachers regularly gather together within their classes to pray during Class Worship sessions. As a Catholic school, we recognise the importance of coming together to pray and worship our faith. We would like to extend an invitation to parents and carers to join your child’s class for their ‘Stay and Pray’ Class Worship. This is an important opportunity for us all to be gathered in His name. See below details of the Stay and Pray sessions that have been planned for this half-term: We look forward to seeing as many parents/carers as possible to join us at our Stay and Pray class worship sessions. If you would like to join us for this special occasion, please indicate your intention to attend by ticking the relevant consent box our online system School Money.

Elim Nursery Parking We have been requested by Elim Nursery in Windermere Road to respectfully ask our parents not to obstruct their driveway and parking lines. For fire safety purposes the driveway and lines must be kept clear but some of our parents keep blocking them. Please be considerate to our neighbours and for the safety of the children in our community.

Parking in Windermere Road We are most concerned at the parking around the school, which is an on going issue for the whole school community. In order to keep all our children safe please only park in a safe and legal place. Please do not endanger the lives of any children by parking inconsiderately or illegally. We have advised parents on many occasions through the newsletter that parking permits are available for the small car park behind Tesco's in Southchurch Road. This give parents a safe free place to park and a short healthy walk to school, sadly only a small number of parents have taken up this means of keeping our children safe. We are emailing out details on how to apply for this permit to our parents today. We strongly encourage parents to avail of this option. We thank you for you in advance for your cooperation and support in keeping our children and families safe.

What’s Coming up Soon?

Cake Recipe Competition – must contain vegetables To add something slightly different to our Children’s Mental Health week, we launched a competition for children to find some winning cake recipes. The twist was that the recipe should include vegetables. We’ve already received some great recipes. Keep them coming in please but make sure that they have your name and class clearly marked on them. There will be prizes for the best recipes and some of these will even be baked and tasted in class. Closing date for the competition is Friday 14th February.

Football at The Len Forge Centre In the AM session, the children were outstanding in their first tournament. A special mention for Zach in Year 2 who scored EIGHT goals!

Friends of Sacred Heart F.O.S.H.

Friends of Sacred Heart is a charitable organisation that holds a range of events to raise money for our wonderful school. Events include quiz nights, curry nights, beetle bingo, sum-mer and Christmas fairs. The money raised goes towards our children's learning and to im-prove their school environment. In previous years we have helped pay for play time and lunch time equipment and subsidise trips for the children.
