Weekly Prayer
This Week's News
Come Holy Spirit,
Please make me kind. I need your love and please, Holy Spirit, give us grace.
Catherine Year 2
Mr Bragard’s Weekly Update
This summer term has been action packed and this week has been filled with fun and excitement like no other. Year 4 had a wonderful residential at Belchamps at the end of last week. The children were amazing and many conquered their fears. Shame Mr Overton-Smith didn’t get much sleep! On Thursday we had the Going for Gold Day. This year, the infants had a fun day at school with a range of activities including water games, construction, parachute games and much more. The children came out of school buzzing! KS2 enjoyed their trip to Adventure Island with the children enjoying many rides including the new and scary Axis. Finally this week, we had our beautiful Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The whole event was a joy to behold with a wonderful outdoor mass which could be heard all around Southchurch and beautiful dancing from all classes across the school. It was truly a beautiful and spiritual morning that made me feel proud to be part of this amazing catholic community. Thank you all for your many donations for the Summer Fayre this weekend. I look forward to seeing you all there even if it does mean that I may be covered in beans, Angel Delight and feathers!

This Week’s News
Going for Gold
Children enjoyed the Going for Gold
days to celebrate their behaviour at
school across the year. Infants enjoyed
a fun filled day at school and KS2 went
down to Adventure Island. Well done to
all the children for working hard and
following the Heart of Sacred Heart this
year you have all been stars.
Sacred Heart Feast Day
Many, many thanks to parents, carers and parishioners
for joining us on Friday morning (28th June) for joining us
on our Feast Day celebrations. As well as the Sacred
Heart community, we also welcomed liturgical prefects
and some of our colleagues from Our Lady of Lourdes
school.
We began this special morning with an outdoor mass led
by Fr. Graham. Despite the gusty conditions on the
playground, the children led us through the mass
beautifully through prayer and hymns. Many thanks for
Fr. Graham and his liturgical team for helping us to
prepare and hold this special mass.
After mass, the pupils greatly enjoyed sharing a range of
dances from varied cultures. We followed our dances
with a whole-school song and ended the morning with a
samba dance off the playground.

This Week’s News
NSPCC Assemblies and Workshops
The NSPCC delivered assemblies for KS1 and KS2
this week to reinforce their message that children
should ‘Stay safe – speak out.’ They also delivered
interactive workshops to Year 5 and 6 and led
discussions about keeping themselves safe in a
variety of different situations. We discussed the
importance of talking to their ‘trusted adults’ as a
first step. As part of our focus on mental wellbeing,
it was another opportunity for our pupils to know
that there is a different outlet for them, if they feel
are feeling worried and are not sure who to talk to.
More information about the work of the NSPCC can
be found on their website:
https://www.nspcc.org.uk/

What’s Coming Up?
RetirementSadly, we will say goodbye to Mr Tallon at the end of this year as he has announced his intention to retire from teaching. Mr. Tallon’s contribution to Catholic Education has been considerable, spanning over many years. We are so very grateful for the many years of service he has given to Sacred Heart School. His dedication and hard work for so many families of Sacred Heart has been significant – this can be summed up in his resolve to remove stabilisers for a young pupil to enable him to ride. This provides a great illustration of his role for our community - he will be sorely missed.
If you would like to make a donation to his retirement collection, please do so in the office.
Cake Sale
On Tuesday 2nd July, Year 6 will be holding a cake
sale in support of the NSPCC charity. Two
representatives from the charity visited us this
week and talked to our children about keeping
themselves safe. We would really appreciate any
cake or biscuit donations that you are able to
contribute to make this event a success. The
cakes will be sold for 20p each, so please make
sure your child has some change. We will be
collecting cakes from Monday 1st July, ready for
Tuesday’s sale. Please do not send in cakes or
biscuits that contain NUTS.
Thank you for your support - the NSPCC rely on
donations to continue their work.

Stay and PrayAs part of our weekly routine at Sacred Heart, pupils and teachers regularly gather together within their classes to pray during Class Worship sessions.
As a Catholic school, we recognise the importance of coming together to pray and worship our faith. We would like to extend an invitation to parents and carers to join your child’s class for their ‘Stay and Pray’ Class Worship. This is an important opportunity for us all to be gathered in His name.
We look forward to seeing as many parents/carers as possible to join us at our Stay and Pray class worship sessions. If you would like to join us for this special occasion, please indicate your intention to attend by ticking the relevant consent box our online system School Money.
We detail below the Stay and Pray sessions that have been planned for this term:

Friends of Sacred Heart is a
charitable organisation that holds a
range of events to raise money for
our wonderful school. Events
include quiz nights, curry nights,
beetle bingo, summer and
Christmas fairs. The money raised
goes towards our children's
learning and to improve their
school environment. In previous
years we have helped pay for play
time and lunchtime equipment and
subsidise trips for the children.
