Lost in the 50's Newsletter P.O. Box 115 | Glen Burnie, MD 21060 September 2019 A message from the President! Hey Now.. It’s September.. turn the games on.. Pray for no RAAAAIIINNN Cruising season is winding down while fall sports are heating up. But, Don’t dive into the couch just yet because we have some great LITF events planned. Check your calendars this month we have the club picnic and the turkey cruise to look forward to. We are also working to reschedule the North Beach Cruise which was postponed due to rain details to follow. While this cruising season has been full of ups and downs both on the lot and behind the scenes, we’ve made it a success. It wouldn’t have been possible without the diligent work of club members and volunteer board members. As the season nears a close board member nominations approach next month! We have two open spots on the board that need to be filled. Its an opportunity to get involved, make a change, pad your resume or just show off what you can bring to the table. Start thinking about who you would like to nominate for a position on the board, or step up and nominate yourself. Since this can be a busy time of year this months message serves as a quick summary, and reminder of events. For fun, check out the pro tips for cruisers included in this newsletter. Enjoy what’s left of summer and see y'all on the lot! Melanie Hein 1

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

From the kitchen of Pam Kozma

Severed Finger Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

1 cup confectioners sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 3/4 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup sliced almonds

Raspberry jam Preparation

In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Mix in the sugar, egg and vanilla, then mix in the flour, baking powder and salt. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees . Using your hands and working quickly, roll a heaping tablespoon of dough into a finger shape. Place the fingers about 3 inches apart on an ungreased, parchment-lined cookie sheet. Stick a sliced almond on 1 end of each for the fingernails. Use a table knife to make three crosswise knuckle marks in the middle of each cookie. Bake until lightly golden, 20 to 25 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool.

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, cook the jam over low heat until it reaches a saucy consistency. Once liquefied, remove from the heat and pour into a small bowl; dip the severed end of each cookie into the sauce.

How to look like a pro at your next cruise-in or car show:

1. Dress like a pro: Wear your favorite auto related t-shirt. Whether it has your car, a car show, cars and flames, or flames on cars it’s almost a requirement to look the part!

2. Prepare like a pro: Bring yourself, your loved ones, your car, but definitely bring cash! Its critical to pay the lot entrance fee and good practice to support the food and drink vendors.

3. Flaunt it if you got it!: Don't let those trophies collect dust in dark corners of your garage.. bring any awards you have won to display with your car. Ya earned it!

4. Shape up before you show up: If your car has been collecting dust in the garage you definitely need to bring it to the show. BUT everyone will tell you – you need to polish that beauty! Save yourself the headache and give it a quick wipe-down before you leave and again once you park it at the cruise-in.

5. Express yourself with Accessories: lights, hood ornaments, stuffed animals, dolls, or anything that helps to express your vehicles style can be conveniently propped up on your dash, bumper, or engine.

6. Pros never forget comfort: Not only will you be wearing rubber off your tires on the way to the cruise, but you'll be putting miles on your feet once you get there. So, wear comfortable shoes and definitely bring yourself a folding chair to relax on while everyone checks out your vehicle. Social Pro Tip: Bring a couple folding chairs, offer someone a seat, and make friends!

7. Pro-like Sun Protection: We all have seen the brittle and broken plastic caused by sun damage on a dash board… don’t let your face be a dashboard- wear sunscreen and sunglasses 🕶 to keep yourself tip top too.

8. Pay it Forward: You’ve put time, effort, and money into your vehicle. You may have even taken a few photos or put together a scrap book of your vehicle or past clubs. BRING IT! This is your own personal trophy and record of accomplishment. Share it! Talk about it! Teach, Laugh, and Reminisce. Any history or knowledge you have to share will engage spectators and grow the appreciation for your contributions and vehicle. As a club one of the best thing we can do is make connections, share in, and foster the appreciation and love for vehicles over generations to come.

9. Cruise-In like a pro: Most important pro tip there is… if you’ve dressed the part, got your trophies ready, dusted off your car, remember to bring your dash accessory, have your sunscreen on, cash in your pocket, and chairs ready to go… don’t forget to bring your historic vehicle! You put a lot of time into preparing for this cruise it would be silly to load up in a minivan.
