Callingwood/LymburnCommunity League

President’s messageFall has arrived and with that the routine of a new school year. I hope everyone has settled into the changes that come in September. In May 2016 we made a number of bylaw changes including the change of our fiscal year end to June 30. To facilitate this change, we were required to host an additional gen-eral meeting which we did in conjunction with Community League Day on September 17. I’d like to welcome Kevin Kraglund to the CLCL executive as our third Member at Large. We are still looking for volunteers to fill the following positions: Social/Programs Director, Special Events Director, Communi-cations Director (Website & Social Media). As well we continue to look for help to sup-port our various programs including Bingos and Casinos. A special thank you goes out to all those that continue to support us for these events. Our first Movie in the Park occurred on the evening on September 17. Many came and enjoyed the playing of “Finding Dory”. Un-fortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate and we had some light rain for the last half hour of the movie. We hope to make this an annual event with your support. A big thanks to Lorne Dach and Brandon Jacoby for providing the popcorn. On the Labour Day weekend we held our 24th Kites Over Callingwood event. It was a cool day but the rain stayed away and once again many came to enjoy the simple activ-ity of flying a kite. Next year Labour Day Weekend 2017, will be our 25th anniversary. We hope to make this a special two-day event next year with much assistance from the community. If you’d like to be involved let us know!We are currently asphalting the outdoor com-munity skating rink. This project will allow us to extend the winter skating season as well as improve the quality and maintenance of the ice. Our work continues as we undertake new projects and improve our operational and administrative policies and procedures. Thank you for everyone involved in making our organization better. If you’re interested in becoming involved, please contact me at [email protected] or use the league email at [email protected] PrettyPresident

Edmonton Neighbour-hood Watch (ENW)

by Sue Leighton

GREAT NEWS! After weeks of meetings, discussions and emails, we can announce there will be a NEW Neighbourhood Watch Sign program. The City of Edmonton has agreed to partner with Neighbourhood Watch and manufacture the signs (which AMA used to do) and they will continue to install the signs. ENW will facilitate the program and the Edmonton Police Service will also partner with us on the program. We will be working together throughout the fall to de-velop the new Neighbourhood Sign program. There isn't a lot to share yet other than a new program will start in early 2017 and there will be a new design for the signs. The details for the process have not been determined yet, but I'll pass them on as soon as they're available.

All EventsOn our website under EVENTS you can find all the dates for the upcoming Community Rep training sessions, monthly bingos and the Appreciation event for the next 12+ months. We will update the locations and links to register for the events as they become available.

Appreciation LuncheonSave the date! The Appreciation Luncheon is at noon on Sunday, November 13th.

Also, the ENW Board of Directors are putting together an Appreciation Event sub-committee. If any of you are interested in being on this committee, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the sub-committee chair. We are also looking for volunteers interested in helping with party planning, collecting items for the si-lent auction, finding sponsors for gift bags, decorating, hosting, etc. If you or anyone you know is interested, please let Debbie Sellers, the Executive Director of Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch, know at [email protected] or if Debbie is not available, try our program director, Chelsea, at [email protected]. Any support we can get will be greatly appreciated!

SCiP InternshipsIf any of you have children, family or friends who are attending post-secondary education, ENW has several SCiP internships available. Students intern at ENW for 80-100 hours and receive a $1000 bursary. Currently we are looking for a Video Intern, Program Specialist and an Event Host. In the next couple of days, we will also have a posting for an Event Coordinator (to help with the Nov 13th event).Sue may be reached at [email protected].

Callingwood-Lymburn Community Bingos

Volunteers are always welcome, especially for afternoon shifts.
