Longboat Key Center for the Arts is proud to honor George Pappas with our 4th annual “Ageless Creativity” Award along with an exhibition of his artwork.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:GEORGE PAPPAS earned his B.S. form the Massachusetts College of Art, an M.A. with study at M.I.T and Harvard University and a doctorate in education from Penn State University. In his 40 years as an artist and educator, Mr. Pappas has held teaching positions at Northern Iowa University, Penn State University and the University of South Florida. His paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States in over 150 juried exhibitions including the Corcoran Biennial, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He has had over 60 one-person exhibitions in museums and galleries.In 2011, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art acquired Double Trouble, 2002, the first painting in the Ringling Museum’s permanent collection of noted Florida artists. His work is represented by Allyn Gallup Contemporary Art in Sarasota, Clayton Galleries in Tampa and Arts on Douglas Gallery in New Smyrna Beach.

Course Description: Students will learn about the intuitive, spontaneous creation of written and oral narrative poems. You will learn simple intuitive techniques that will allow you to create written and/or spoken poems spontaneously and without forethought.
Painting the Florida Landscape Painting Master Class $120 (2- classes)Tony Rich November 9 - 10, 1 – 4 pm
Course Description: The unique qualities of the land, water and sky in Florida create both opportunities and challenges for the outdoor painter. This workshop will focus on approaches for capturing these opportunities through design considerations and painting techniques. Weather permitting, the workshop will be held outdoors on Longboat Key. SHIFT! – A Right Brain Drawing Exercise Drawing Master Class $50 Melissa MuddNovember 17, 1 – 4 pm
Course Description:This Master Class workshop is designed for individuals with little or no drawing experience. Learning to draw is a matter of “shifting” your perception or seeing things differently. In this course, you will be taken through a series of exercises that will strengthen your ability to visualize and capture what you see onto a piece of paper. You will leave this workshop having a better sense of communicating through your drawing that ultimately will boost your creativity and confidence. Supplies will be provided.
