    Small steps Bigger steps

Networking is no longer aboutattending cocktail parties orcorporate lunches (thoughthis helps). Networks have anarchitecture that you can work tounderstand and build upon. Youreally can map them.

There are technical tools to helpyou, such as free excel add-onssuch as NodeXL. But perhapsbest to stick with pen and paperand some post-its to get started.Print out your companysorganizational charts (if you can

find them).Who are the key influencers?Who are the mavens?Who are the connectors? Are they on your sideor against you?

Once youve got your map, develop strategies for cultivatingsupport for your project byidentifying individual emotionalpositions. Set up meetingswith key individuals to enrolltheir support.

Before each meeting ask:What do I really know aboutthis individual? Whats drivingthem? Are they in it for rewardand recognition or do they getsatisfaction from being part of ateam? Are they a protector of thebrand? Do they enjoy pioneering

new terrain? Do they have otherpressures of which I may not beaware how can I find out?

You would be amazed at what youcan discover about someone onLinkedIn and Google. Once youhave identified their emotionaldrivers, then ask how can I tapinto this to get their support? Atthe end of the day how can Imake this person look good byhelping me?

MAP YOUR INFLUENCERS TAP INTO EMOTIONAL POSITIONS

Over the past five years we have soughtto make social intrapreneurship partof the formula for how we think aboutchanging the world. Our initial foraysinto the field began with John Elkingtonin The Social Intrapreneur A FieldGuide for Corporate Changemakers.

Building on this initial study,we stepped out and rallied greaterinstitutional support to invest in thecreation of a network for corporatechangemakers. In the Fall of 2012,The League of Intrapreneurs was bornwith support from Ashoka, Accenture, the Inter-American InvestmentCorporation, GlaxoSmithKline,Standard Chartered, Virgin and anumber of other partners.

The Cubicle Warriors Toolkit growsout of our experiences working in thetrenches with leading change-agentsat large institutions. The creation of thistoolkit would not have been possiblewithout input from leading expertsand practitioners, including membersof the League of Intrapreneuers.

We would especially like to thank:Gib Bulloch at Accenture andRosario Londono at the Inter-American Investment Corporationfor their support in helping us growthis community and contributing tothe mounting canon of knowledge inservice of social intrapreneruship.

Over the coming decades,an accelerating pace of change

will test the resilience of every

society, organization andindividual. The balance ofpromise and peril confrontingany particular organization

will depend on its capacityfor adaptation. Hence, the

most important questionfor any company is this:are we changing as fastas the world around us?
