'Memory, Community, National Identity and Faith'

Lord Green, KCMGCollective memories are often the glue which holds communities and nations together and sometimes they even define a nation.  As for individuals, our memories can often point to God’s hand in our lives.   Lord Green spent 35 years in the Diplomatic Service.  After studying Arabic in the Lebanon he specialised in the Middle East, was Director for the Middle East at the Foreign Office, and served as Ambassador in Syria and Saudi Arabia.  He chaired Medical Aid for Palestinians for three years and in 2014 the Prime Minister appointed him as a Cross Bench member of the House of Lords for his public service.

'Unofficial Inscriptions'

Professor Stephen Bann, CBE, FBA, FSAStephen Bann is Emeritus Professor of the History of Art and Senior Research Fellow at Bristol University. At present  he is seeing through press his recent Slade Lectures at Cambridge on the theme of 'Scenes and Traces of the English Civil War'. Inscriptions abound in places of worship, chiefly for the purpose of commemorating the dead. But many churches also exhibit initials and dates carved upon the stonework, prompting questions about the messages that might have been intended for posterity.

David Thomson retired recently after many years of ministry in Yorkshire, Oxfordshire and Cumbria before serving for 10 years as Bishop of Huntingdon. Before ordination he was an academic, and he continues to research and write on mediaeval subjects. Christianity continues to offer us powerful senses of identity. How can being “in Christ” bea force for good not ill?

'Memory and Belonging'

Rose has been a College Chaplain, a Hospital Chaplain and a parish priest of two country parishes (198 km apart) in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia. She was a music school principal in Singapore for many years before emigrating and now calls Australia home.  Within you is a spiritual compass which guides you on your journey through life to that place which is sacred and holy, and known only to you.  This is that which holds you, and your sense of who you are.
