RAAF Museum, housed at Point Cook (near Melbourne), is the birthplace of the Australian Flying Corps and the oyal Australian Air Force.

The museum tells one of Australia’s most important aviation stories, that of the second oldest air force in the world.

The museum displays aircraft of significance to the RAAF from its inception as the Australian Flying Corps to the present.

At the direction of Air Marshal Sir George Jones, the RAAF Museum was formed in 1952 and fell under the administration of Headquarters Point Cook until 1988.

Ingredients

1 cup plain fl our2 tablespoons vegetable oil2 large potatoes (boiled)1 onion, chopped2 green chilies, very fi nely chopped3 tablespoons oil1⁄2 teaspoon ginger, grated1⁄2 teaspoon garlic, crushedcoriander seed1 tablespoon cilantro (coriander), fi nely chopped1⁄2 lemon, juice of1⁄2 teaspoon turmeric1⁄2 teaspoon garam masala1⁄2 teaspoon red chili powdersalt

Method

Mix together the fl our, oil and salt. Add a little water, until mixture becomes crumbly. Keep adding water, kneading the mixture till it becomes a soft pliable dough. Cover with a moist cloth and set aside for 20 minutes. Beat dough on a work surface and knead again. Cover and set aside.

Heat 3 tbsp oil. Add ginger, garlic, green chillies and few coriander seeds. Stir fry for 1 minute, add onions and saute till light brown.

Add cilantro (fresh coriander), lemon juice, turmeric, red chili, salt and garam masala. Stir fry

for 2 minutes. Then add potatoes and stir fry for a further 2 minutes. Set aside and allow to cool.

Divide dough into 10 equal portions. Use a rolling pin, roll a piece of dough into a 5” oval then cut into 2 halves.

Run a moist fi nger along the diameter. Roll around fi nger to make a cone. Place a tablespoon of the fi lling into the cone. Seal the third side using a moist fi nger.

Deep fry the samosas on low to medium heat until light brown.

Serve with tomato sauce or any chutney you love.

RECREATIONFor a great view and a BBQ, visit Keast Park and Horse Beach. Carrum’s ‘pirate ship playground’ offers plenty of variety for toddlers through to late primary school aged children. Additionally, the new beach themed playground at Carrum’s foreshore is ideal for kids in summer. Also on the foreshore is Carrum Surf Lifesaving Club building, a boardwalk and public toilets. Local sporting clubs include the Carrum Cricket Club, Carrum Football Club and the famous Carrum Bowling Club, as featured in the movie Crackerjack before it’s revamp. Other exciting local activities include the 43km walking and cycling Dandenong Creek Trail that leaves from Carrum and plenty of kite surfi ng, kayaking, Stand up Paddle Boarding.

SHOPPINGStretching along the Nepean Highway from Patterson River is a local shopping strip opposite

the train station. On the other side of the train line is a second shopping strip including Aldi and a variety of takeaway shops and cafes.

FOODCarrum has a variety of quality places to stop in for a quick bite or to dine. Notable places include TRAX627 Restaurant Bar, Thai Beach Cafe and Fat Bobs Burgers and Beer. Another must stop place to visit is the Ice Cream Bar at the Crackerjack Waterfront Cafe.

EDUCATIONCarrum’s local government primary school is Carrum Primary School, and secondary school, Patterson River Secondary College, which operates from Seaford on the southern boundary of Patterson Lakes. There are a variety of additional primary and secondary schools nearby in the surrounding suburbs.
