  • What is the “right” technology? Is lighter always better? What about stronger orstiffer tubing? Is one kind of suspension better than another? With so manyoptions and so many variables, it’s easy to get lost in the latest technology trends.

At KHS, we view technology a little differently than most bike companies. Wedon’t choose designs, materials, or technologies for fad or fashion. And we don’tforce feed one technology on every type of rider at every level.

We believe in function, and more importantly, we believe in performance, quality and value. That’s why our goal is to find the right technology for eachtype of riding, and each type of rider.

KHS APPLIED TECHNOLOGYA lot of bike companies spend time and money following and developingfashionable technologies, only to “sell themselves” on one particular fad.Technology like this starts at the top, then trickles down. In turn, they need torecoup their investment, so their favored technology, in time, gets forced on toevery bike they make.

The engineers at KHS don’t start at the top and work down. They start withclean slate on each and every bike, analyzing the type of rider and type ofriding of every bike at every price point. And we’ve got three key criteria wemeasure technology against: performance, quality and value. It’s more likeengineering from the “rider up”. We call it KHS Applied Technology.

To see KHS Applied Engineering, let’s look at three examples of how ourracers, product managers, and materials engineers work together to bring thevery best to riders of all kinds, and of all levels.

PROVEN PERFORMANCESUSPENSION (PPS™)For more than 35 years, KHS has sponsored bicycle racers and race teams aroundthe world. Our racers have won local, collegiate, national, and worldchampionships. So when it came to developing suspension systems for ourmountain bikes, we turned to our race teams.

Our racers told us, categorically, their number one goal was to have greatperformance in suspension. But right behind performance was ridability, durability, and dependability.

That’s why KHS has, for over a decade, continued to develop and refine highperformance suspension system for our mountain bikes. From short travelcross-country race suspension to long travel downhill bikes, and from WorldChampionship winning models down to our entry-level mountain bikes, wechoose a model-specific suspension design to enhance each bike’s ride.

Each model is ride and race tested for performance. If a design doesn’t meetour standards, we don’t use it. We optimize travel and shock design, for eachbike at each price point, making sure every bike has the performance, qualityand value the rider wants. *KHS uses the world famous Horst-Link 4-bar suspension design under license from Specialized Bicycle Components.

    THE RIGHTTECHNOLOGY.

At KHS we strive to bring the best of technology, performance and value to every bike, every rider, and every budget!

CARBON MME™How to you build an incredible road bike that is light weight, offersawe-inspiring performance, yet offers great value and affordability? The answeris our new Carbon MME™ technology.

Carbon MME™ (Model-specific Materials Engineering) is a new approach tobringing high performance road riding to a new level of rider. By blendingcustom modulus carbon fiber tubes with ultralight yet ultra strong aluminumtubes, KHS has achieved a new standard in sport racing and club road ridingperformance, quality and value.

The key is not just the use of advanced carbon fiber tubing, but also in wherewe use it. Many bicycle manufacturers try to employ carbon fiber in lower pricedmodels, using a carbon top tube or seat tube. These bike look great in theshowroom, but our tests show that these provide very little ride improvement

for sport class riders. With our all-new 700 series, we’ve place incredibly strong yet ultralight

carbon fiber tubing in critical areas such as the downtube and the chainstays. The down tube acts like a “backbone” of the bicycle, and takes a huge amount ofthe stresses of the road. By using carbon fiber, we’ve improved steering andtorsional stiffness, making a more responsive bike with better shock absorbingstrength. By using carbon fiber chainstays, we’ve reduced power-robbing flex atthe bottom bracket, and created a more responsive handling rear end.

Carbon MME™ brings new levels of road performance to riders and racers whodemand more out of their bikes, but also want a great value. Carbon MME™ isfeatured in our new Flite 750 and 720 designs.

ComforTech™The vast majority of cyclists in the world ride not for racing and sport, butrather for fun, fitness, and function. That’s why we created ComforTech™, ourprocess for making bikes more fun, more comfortable, and more functional.

Whether its our exciting new Vitamin line of fitness bicycles, our easy-to-rideSmoothie bikes with low standover heights, or our world famous Urban line ofbicycles, we put the same time, effort and energy into designing these bikes as atop racers.

KHS has been the leader in the comfort market for more than 20 years, having been early adopters of comfort technologies such as comfort suspension,Lo-Step™ frame designs, and rider compartment adjustability.

Whether you’re want to race the Tour de France, or just the “tour de family”,KHS has bicycle, and a technology, designed just for you!

KHS’s Carbon MME™ puts the strength where sportclass racers and club riders need it, on the downtubeand chainstays.

Some manufacturers add a carbon top tube or seat tube, which looks nice, butthey don't add a significant performance benefit

Flex in the lower end of the bike resultsin lost power and a sluggish feel. OurCarbon MME™ chainstays reduce pedalflex at the bottom bracket, improvingacceleration and responsiveness.

Downtubes must withstand a largeamount stress from bumps in the road. Our custom spec’d modulus carbondowntube counters road shock plus itcreates more torsional rigidity, improving steering and handling.
