There is a significant requirement for high-end human resources. Currently, we have 24,000 high end IT professionals. As per our projections, we need an additional 8,000 high end professionals within the next year. At present, the industry is receiving 1,600 high end graduates from Tier 1 institutes, around 1,400 high end graduates are coming from Tier 2 educational institutes. We need an additional 5,000 high end graduates from similar Tier 1 institutes, which is very difficult. The only way we can meet this industry requirement is by training Tier 2 graduates in rigorous on-the-job training. Likewise, we need more middle-of-the-road professionals. We need to improve the quality of Tier 2 institutes so that their 20% low-end graduates can reach middle-of-the-road level. 232,401 There is a common complaint among fresh IT graduates, and those in their last semesters, regarding the difficulty in securing a job immediately after graduation that is best suited to their skill-sets. This is valid, as companies in Pakistan are reluctant to hire personnel with no previous working experience. Rather the local software industry, ITeS companies and IT departments of public and private sector organizations prefer human resources with experience in the same discipline. In order to resolve these issues, PSEB works as a proactive match-maker between educational institutes and the IT industry and will help to provide practical work experience to graduates and students. This project will contribute to PSEB’s objectives of providing quality human resources to the industry. The basic aim of this project is to help companies expand their operations by simultaneously employing more people and maintaining a reduced financial burden on the hiring companies. This will, in turn, help companies recruit more human resources.

1.5. PSEB HRD MODEL PSEB intends to develop a talented human resources pool for the IT, IT-enabled services and computer graphics, animation and games development industry. PSEB aims to play the facilitating role of a proactive match-maker. In order to strengthen Pakistan's image as an attractive option for outsourcing IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS), a key area for PSEB, therefore, is to increase the country’s skilled human resources pool. PSEB is open to forming flexible partnerships, providing financial subsidies and technical support to both the industry and to educational institutions to develop the workforce of tomorrow.

PSEB works with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to increase the influx of quality graduates into the industry, facilitates matching of graduates with IT companies, provides ongoing training and industry-standard certifications to professionals, and undertakes research to benchmark IT professionals and graduates in the country. Some of the ventures PSEB has undertaken in order to strengthen the IT industry’s human resources are outlined below. 1. EDUCATION The education program is focused towards the educational industry which currently includes the following: Professional Development Centers The purpose of setting up Professional Development Centers (PDC) at top universities is to provide reliable, up-to-date, relevant career information and job descriptions for students and alumni making decisions about their future career paths. These career counselors will arrange industry visits, and guest speakers, and work as liaison officers with the internship project team. Soft Skills The project aims to develop the soft skill and English language skills of IT and Business graduates belonging mostly to suburban areas. This project would train over 500 IT and Business graduates in the towns located in proximity to such graduates.

2.INTERNSHIPS The objective of PSEB's Internships program is to groom fresh Computer Science graduates to make the smooth transition from their studies to professional life by preparing them to face the practical challenges of working in the IT/ITeS industry. This program is also aimed at the development of confidence amongst the Pakistani IT business managers regarding the output of IT-oriented educational institutes. This project intends to bridge the gap between the IT/ITeS industry and the academic institutions, by seeking to mould fresh gradates into world-class professionals. Out of a total of 2500 graduates from 205 universities/institutes of the country, 2300 have been placed, out of which 1600 have completed their internships in the local IT/ITeS industry and 235 IT departments of public and private sector organizations for a period of 3 months. PSEB pays Rs. 3,000/- per month for 3 months' internship. The retention by the IT companies is more then 70% to 80%, while the remaining 30-40% receives job offers from other organizations due to their internship experience. 3. IT INDUSTRY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Under the IT Industry Apprenticeship Program, PSEB offers financial subsidy for the companies to recruit graduates possessing the basic skills and knowledge in Information Technology and other related disciplines to provide IT/ITeS services. These recruits are generally graduates with some experience. These “apprentices” or trainees are hired by companies as full-time employees and put through a 12-month program, consisting of in-company training, on-the-job training and mentoring. 4. CORPORATE TRAINING

There is a shortage of formal/official certified trainings in Pakistan regarding high-end technologies, such as Mercury Interactive, PeopleSoft, SAP and Siebel. PSEB has initiated a program that brings in trainers from abroad to train, and subsequently certify, individuals nominated by their companies. PSEB bears 80% of the cost of the training, while the remaining 20% is bourn by the participant companies themselves. In this regard, Newsletters are sent to the PSEB registered companies to keep them updated.

However, it is mandatory for the applicants to fulfill the pre-requisites to qualify for selection. These pre-requisites vary from one training to another. PSEB follows the requirements that are set forth by the course provider. PSEB organizes the following trainings for professionals:
