name: Mayte Michelle Rodriguezbirth: July 12, 1978birthplace: Texasheight: “5’5”ethnicity: Dominican/Puerto Rican

A cross between beauty and brawn, Texas-born Michelle Rodriguez has come a long way from humble beginnings. Living amongst rough, yet diverse surroundings, has shaped Michelle’s persona as a street savvy “tough girl”. Com-bining her personality and raw talent she was able to beat out 350 other wom-en for her first speaking role in 2000’s critically-acclaimed independent film, Girlfight.

The award-winning performance quickly helped Michelle garner the at-tention of Hollywood, leading to major roles in blockbusters such as The Fast and the Furious (2001) and S.W.A.T. (2003) as well as a role in ABC’s hit televi-sion series Lost. Michelle later appeared in the dramatic indie Battle in Seattle with Charlize Theron followed by Fast & Furious with Vin Diesel.

She can currently be seen in James Cameron’s Golden Globe-nominated epic Avatar, as well as the upcoming Robert Rodriguez film Machete, and Bat-tle: Los Angeles with Aaron Eckhart. Seeking opportunities to branch out and reveal her multifaceted layers, Michelle is currently developing her own projects

as a writer and producer.

A Chanel skirt wraps......around her ample ass while her long gazelle-like legs glide through the room. Each eye is suddenly captivated by the hue and texture of her cherry-rush lipstick, which gently part to utter a quiet, but seduc-tive “hello”. Her spell lingers as she roams the room, and each of your five senses race to keep up with her beauty. Her silk-like hair dances to its own rhythm, as her buttermilk skin exposes the names, symbols, and memories permanently il-lustrated on her canvas. You’re curiosity heightens, leading you to investigate the met-alwork sporadically injected into her lips, nose, and un-

mentionables. She opens her mouth to speak once again, and you’re lost between the large wedges of her crass independence, memories and expectations.

Who is she? A female who knows what she wants and knows exactly how to get it. A female who is consis-tently prepared for anything physically, emotionally, and intellectually using her book and street smarts. One who is classy and all about her busi-ness while remaining loyal to this game called life and most importantly, herself.

Rap videos claim her

as a “bad bitch”, while there has been connotations with the words “vixen” , “diva” or quite bluntly, a bitch. For the sake of the story, she’s unmistakably the lady of the new revolution.

The tedious days of female oppression upon the women before us, have definitely lifted. Voices of women are no longer sup-pressed within the kitchen, behind pots, pans and clean-ing supplies. Instead, you can find this deluctable goddess within business of-fices all over the globe while partying in the hottest clubs strutting the latest fashions.

Dictionaries have de-scribed this femme fatale as refined, polite, well-spoken and of high socioeconomic class. Society has exempli-fied this definition through the works of First Ladies Michelle Obama and Jackie Kennedy, and other politi-cally just women. The media has shown that this type of woman is not only financial-ly independent, but emo-tionally. Her bank account(s) accumlates with her money, controlled only one way...

Page 10: LIPSTICK...on the j

“I am NOT a bitch...just a realist”

hers. The monetary indepen-dence she exudes does not compare to her cold, “ice prin-cess” demeanor towards rela-tionships. Does she fear love? Perhaps, but that question can only be analyzed per individ-ual. Due to past interrelations usually ending in turmoil, it has shaped her viewpoint of lust and love into scientific theories, each meticulously formed by spite.

A free-spirit thinker, her thoughts are quite vocal through her rebellious per-sonality. Avoiding status quo is what this diva aims for, and displays her insubordinate nature with the clothing, hair-styles, makeup, piercings and tattoos which for the most part, our somewhat conservative so-ciety finds ludicrous. You can most likely find her threads within small boutiques or vin-tage stores that most would overlook. Her body is embed-ded with life stories, quotes, lyrics, paraphenelia, names, and illustrations of everything near and dear to her. Her goal is to show the world, she is far from the usual and boring and to get close to her, physically and most importantly, emo-tionally, is an esteemed privi-lege.

Continuing with the prior scene,

- Jaleasa Carroll, 19, Louisiana

is an esteemed privilege.

Scents of marijuana, Jack Daniels, alcohol and Chanel No.5 are what she fienes for. Ignoring warning signs, she drinks and smokes the world’s “poison”. To her, style and grace are an evitable trait of a female but she believes in rep-resenting this in your own way.

Conclusively, these “barbaric” women have turned around the perceptions of today’s society. A free-spirit thinker, her thoughts are quite vocal through her rebellious personality. Avoiding status quo is what this diva aims for, and displays her insubordinate nature with the clothing, hair-styles, makeup, piercings and tattoos which for the most part, our somewhat conservative society finds ludicrous. You can most likely find her threads within small boutiques or vintage stores that most would overlook. She is the epitome of every women found within us.

As a woman, there are plenty of things we could complain about. Men, menstruation, other females, friends, careers , double-standards, and family life have and will continue to break down not only our moods but our spirit. Instead of feeding into the complexities of our daily lives, try a little medi-tation.Despite religius faith, meditation can be essential to a healthy spiritual life. Spirituality is the state or quality of being dedicated to God, religion, or spiritual things or values, especially in contrast with material or temporal ones. Self-reflection is key. Take the time to relax and let your mind wan-der through space. Try to concentrate solely on your deep breathing rather than the endless errands you must finish by the end of the day. Doing this, will not only physically lower your blood pressure and heart issues but will help you adjust your reactions to daily stressors in a calm, collective manner. Being a part of #teamAnger-Management from an early age, I know exactly how it feels to lash out at loved ones unintention-ally. With deep breathing, counting and meditation you can be able to focus on the rationalization of your temper, and doing so, level out your mood. Just think, if everyone acted out their anger and frustrations of life, the world would be a darker place to live. So, remember ladies, spread the love and keep the peace. Smile when your sad, laugh when your mad, and dance when you cry...remember whatever you go through is just a stage in life and like the ones before, it too shall pass.

SEE no evil. HEAR no evil. SPEAK no evil. keep your spirit clean.
