Welcome to Linnémarschen 2014

We are proud to organise the 38th Linnémarschen - a delightful walk through beautiful and varied countryside.

It is the largest organised walk in Sweden and an annual event for everyone who enjoys being out and about in the countryside. Discover the many, beautiful views around Borås, western Sweden's second largest city.

Linnémarschen is the only Swedish walking event to be a member of the international IML Walking Association, which holds organised walking events around the globe. To become an "International Walker", you have to walk on both days, up to 21 km a day.

If you have decided it's time to start exercising, you might like to try our shorter 10.5 km circuits. If you're a seasoned walker or like a challenge, our tough 42 km Marathon Walk might be for you.

Our exciting Adventure Walk is great for younger walkers and their families.

Welcome to this year's Linnémarsch!

Carl Linnaeus (1707 - 1778) Internationally, Linnaeus is perhaps Sweden's most famous person. As he travelled around the countryside, he made detailed notes of the flora, fauna and geology.

Linnaeus visited Borås in 1746 and was impressed by the richness of the landscape. He called the Rya Åsar hills the "Alps of Västra Götaland". This area is now a nature reserve and much of the Walk leads through its beautiful countryside.

The Linnémarschen Walk is a great way to enjoy a day of healthy activity with friends in beautiful natural surroundings.


SUNDAY 27TH APRIL21 km Rya Åsar

Starts between 8 and 10 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m. Walking time: 3.5 to 5 hours. Sunday's 21 km route through the Rya Åsar nature reserve is a challenging walk that exercises mind and body. The first section is very hilly, so it's a good idea to take it easy in the beginning. Once you reach the top, you are rewarded with an amazing view from Ryssby Klint. The walk then leads you past Ryssby pond, Hestrastugan, Sjögården and Hästhagen. Continue to Ramshulan via Almenäs and below the scree slopes on Rya Åsar, through Björbo's meadows of wood anemone to the finish in Borås Arena.

This walk is part of the Borås Classic.

10.5 km ViskanStarts between 8 and 10 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m. Walking time: 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The 10.5 km Viskan walk is flatter and follows beautiful paths along the river Viskan to the boardwalk at Almenäs. The last stage passes through Björbo's beautiful meadows to the finish in Borås Arena. A perfect walk to get you started!

Spend one or two days with your family or friends on adventurous walks through Swedish forests, with a choice of distances from 6 km to 42 km. What better way to greet the spring!

SATURDAY 26TH APRIL42 km Marathon Walk

Starts between 8 and 9 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m.Walking time: 7 to 10 hours. The 42 km Marathon Walk offers you a full day of exercise and an out-of-the-ordinary experience. The walk takes you along beautiful trails and paths around Borås, with an exotic start through the zoo. You pass many favourite local spots, including Svarttjärn nature reserve and lake Pickesjön. The last stage of the walk takes you through Borås City and the town square with its magnificent flower displays and famous sculptures and then alongside the river Viskan to Borås Arena where the walk ends.


21 km Kype-YmerStarts between 8 and 9 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m.Walking time: 3.5 to 5 hours. The 21 km Kype-Ymer route follows the Marathon Walk circuit through Borås Zoo and Kype woods up to Ymergården. It then turns back and follows a variety of mostly gentle, downhill trails and paths through the forest. The last stage of the walk follows the same route as the Marathon Walk, through Borås City and alongside the river Viskan.


10.5 km KypeStarts between 8 and 9 a.m. Official mass start at 8 a.m.Walking time: 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The 10.5 km Kype walk is for those who want a somewhat shorter distance in slightly easier terrain, but still want to enjoy the real countryside. This walk offers lots of variation along beautiful paths and trails in Kype woods, with an exotic start through the zoo. After four kilometres, shortly after the water stop at Kypegården, the walk doubles back through Kype woods before joining the same route as the other walks through Borås City and alongside the river Viskan.

Register at linnemarschen.com. Closing date 20th April. Payment by credit card, online banking. If you do not register online, you need to state your name and choice of walk.

The last date for regular registration is Thursday 20th April 2014. Payment to Hestra IF no later than 21th April.

You can collect your start envelope from the City Intersport store on Friday 25th April, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Or from Borås Arena on 26th and 27th April.It is possible to register at Borås Arena on the day for an additional fee. See linnemarschen.com

Linnémarschen 2014 is the only Swedish walking event to be part of an international walking organisation. The IML Walking Association is an independent organisation whose purpose is to promote and market international multi-day walking events

in countries around the world. Linnémarschen has ensured that the quality of the walks, the routes and the event as a whole satisfies the high standards of the IML Walking Association.

The IML Walking Association has a worldwide programme for all of its walking events. Look through the IML calendar and start planning your next walk. Visit new countries, experience different cultures and make new friends.

Get yourself an "International Walker Passport" (on sale at Borås Arena), walk at least 2x21 km, i.e. take part on both days and get your first IML stamp. You can also buy an IML medal if you want and start planning your next IML walk. IML walks are held in 26 countries worldwide.

Walk at least 2 x 21 km, then it's yours. Available in several different denomina-tions. When you have completed three IML walks in different countries, you can buy the next denomination.


Welcome to BoråsThere's always something exciting happening in Borås - West Sweden's second largest city and the design, fashion and textile hub of Scandinavia. Borås is a vibrant city with an excellent cultural atmosphere, an interesting history and a constant stream of activities and events. Take a guided tour of Borås. Everyone who has registered for the Walk is invited to join a free guided tour on 25th April. The tours are available in three languages.
