What’s the Deal with all these Endorsements??

Many clients have been asking me, “Sherry, what’s up with these endorsements?”

LinkedIn has recently given you the ability to endorse someone. Here is the deal- typical when you pull up someone’s profile you will see “Do you want to endorse (their name) for these skills and/or expertise? It gives you a list, you can “X” out of the skills you believe they have no expert knowledge and just add the ones you know they possess.

Same goes for your profile, you might see again that someone has endorsed you for some skills you possess and others you do not, hence the example above. You can cancel the ones you want and keep the ones that apply. Example: Someone might endorse me as an expert in Quick Books. As many of you know, I would sooner have a root canal than gain expertise in that particular skill!! I leave that to the experts!

You will typically receive an email that someone has endorsed you. You can then go to your profile and you can return the favor or skip it totally. If you endorse them, you will get a box of four more people you may want to endorse for a specific skill.

The rule of thumb that I typically use is my personal knowledge of that person. If you endorsing someone for a certain skill, you might want to review their profile before endorsing them for something you know they possess/or do not possess.

Some folks are of the mindset that others are endorsing you so their picture shows on your page (which it does). I refuse to believe they are that ruthless and choose to believe they being honest and believe you truly are the expert in your field.

Your endorsements are maxed out at 99 so after 100 endorsements it will read as 99+; quite a few people who truly are experts will have those numbers for the skills they possess.

I hope that helps! If you need further clarification, please feel free to email me at [email protected] Happy Endorsing!!~ Sherry
