Helping Out New Students

My name is Jim and this is my first year at Linglestown Middle School. Until a few weeks ago I didn’t know how hard it was to be in a new place and to not know anyone. I’d like to share my experience. There are plenty of things you can do to make new stu-dents feel good. Include them in things. Help them whenever they need it. Mostly just go up and introduce yourself to them and say “hi”. Include the new kid. That will make them feel welcome. Open up your friend group to include one more person. You may not have much in common with them, but having someone to talk to and sit with is very helpful. Just be open to being friends with them and it will make their day. Help out the new kid. It may be hard for the new person to adjust to multiple classes. Transitioning from elementary to middle school may be a difficult time. If you spot someone who looks a bit confused, offer them a hand. Whether it’s not knowing where your next class is or having trouble with a locker, help is always appreciated. Introduce yourself to the new kid. Introducing yourself to the new student is a good way to brighten up their day. If you have time between classes, just say “hi”. Knowing someone can help a lot. Be patient if they don’t remember your name. You only have one new name to learn, they have hundreds to learn. By doing simple things like including them, helping them and introducing yourself to them, you can make a new student feel welcome!

Positivity is Easy You just have to say one word to put a smile

on someone's face. Going up to someone and saying, “ I like you shirt” is the beginning of positivity. You can help someone if their books or pencils fall by helping them pick up their stuff. If you see someone sad or they have their head down go up to them and see what is wrong. Be a friend to others.

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! This means it is a new year for advice, kind words, and inspiration. This school year is going to be the best school year yet and all of us in Rampages are ready to make the year even better.

Advice to 6th Graders Welcome to LMS 6th graders! This year is hopefully off to a great start and you all have

made new friends. As we get into our colder months, your routines start coming along. I know that this year was a little nerve wracking, new school, new friends, and now you have a sched-ule to follow. This year is going to be difficult for you at the start but don't put your head down, just make sure you are doing all of your assignments the day that you get them so you can turn them in early. Also, make sure that you are using your time wisely at school so you can have more time to do your sports or other activities when you get home so you are not rushing at the last minute. I hope that you are enjoying your first month at LMS!

CHANGE Change is a good thing for a new school year. If

you are new to middle school, and you don’t really hangout with your friends from last year

that’s okay. You are allowed to make new friends, don’t let anyone stop you. If you change

your style that is okay. Just know that you should always be yourself and don't let others

tell you how to change.

Advice to 7th Graders

Welcome back 7th Graders! This year should be off to a good start. You get to see all of your friends again, maybe this year you are even on the same team as them! Well either way, eve-ryone can agree that this year is definitely more difficult than last year. This year you have a lot more homework to stay on top of that is also more time consuming. This year you also have a choice to do a school sport and join more clubs then you did last year which can be difficult to juggle when you have so much work. Since this is your 2nd year of middle school, you should be a good role model to the 6th graders and help them out if they need a locker opened or just need to know where a class is. Welcome back students! ~Izzy

‘Round the World With Lizzie

Walt Disney World For Tweens and Teens

1.Rides and shows (attractions). While all of the attractions are great, here's the most popular by category.

a petting zoo, a safari (Kilimajaro Safaris), the Wild Africa Trek tour, shows, and more! If you stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can go out on your balcony anytime and see the animals! At Epcot, there’s a 5,700,000 gallon aquarium that houses over 8,500 different sea creatures. You can do Dive Quest or The Seas Aqua Tour to get up close with them. If that’s out of your com-fort zone, you can simply eat at Coral Reef Restaurant and watch the creatures from behind a safe glass wall.

3) Holidays and special events. From November through New Years, the Magic Kingdom has Mickey’s Very Merry Christ-

mas Party on select nights. At the party, you can see special shows, Holiday Wishes (the fireworks), and the Christmas Pa-rade. You can try special treats, get special merchandise, and meet special characters. If you go in Fall, you can attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party where you can see special shows, Hallowishes (the fireworks), and the Boo To You Parade. You can try special treats, get special merchandise, meet special characters, and even trick of treat in the Magic Kingdom. At the Food & Wine Fest in Epcot, you can sample foods and drinks from around the world. In Spring, there's the Flower & Garden Fest at Ep-cot where you can take cooking and gardening classes and see topiaries of your favorite characters. And finally, in January, you can go to the Festival of the Arts. There, you can buy special art, watch artists in action, see Broadway performers and sample special food.

4) Disney Springs. Disney Springs is a shopper’s paradise, with over 100 stores, including stores that you know like Vera

Bradley, Under Armor, Ugg, Pandora Jewelry, and Uniqlo to unique stores like Disneystyle, Lego Store, Star Wars Outpost, Coca Cola Store, and World of Disney. They also have over 60 dining options, my favorites being Raglan Road, The Boathouse, Paradiso 37, D-Luxe Burger, and Earl of Sandwich. Some other entertainment includes La Nouba Cirque Du Soleil, Vintage Amphicars (cars that go in water), Aerophile (hot air bal-loon), Splitsville (a bowling alley/restaurant) and a Movie Theater. 5) Resorts. There are so many resorts to stay in and explore in Disney World. My favorites are the modern Contemporary, the lush and tropical Polynesian, the whimsical waterfront Boardwalk, the tranquil and re-

laxed Old Key West, the story-inspired Art of Animation, and the casual and elegant Beach Club. All of the Disney hotels have awesome pools, restaurants, and activities and are a short bus ride away from the parks.

6) Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. Sorcerers is a free game that you can play in Magic Kingdom. It is basically like a scav-

enger hunt where you stop at different portals that will come to life and you will be able to use spell cards given to you to stop the Disney villains! There's a whole plot, but I don't want to spoil it.

Thanks for reading this edition of ‘Round the World With Lizzie. Where to next? -Lizzie ♥︎

Advice to 8th Graders

Welcome back 8th Graders! Wow finally-you rule the school! This is it-you are the leaders that everyone will look up to. Just think in one year from now around this time you will be in the high school, but we have to take it one year at a time. This is the hardest year of school for you, you have never had this much homework before in your life so you need to make sure it is all getting done because all of these grades are also getting you ready for college. There is a lot of pressure on you and you might feel like there isn’t any-thing that is going to help you. Don’t worry this is all going to be worth it when you have your dream job in the near future. Like I have said to all of the other students just make sure all of your work is done before the due date.

~Izzy

“What happened to Miss. Smith?” Well in June of 2018 she became Mrs. Huff when she married

her husband, Adam Huff. They were married in a church in New Jersey. Did you know that New

Jersey is Mrs. Huff's hometown? Their honeymoon though was a completely different feel and cli-

mate from New Jersey. This place is very warm and tropical, with lush rainforests. Still can't figure

it out? Ok, they went to JAMAICA! They swam in the ocean and relaxed by the pool. Relaxing is not

all they did though, they went boat tubing and kayaking. You are most likely asking yourself “What

is boat tubing?” Well, Boat tubing is when one or more people get into a tube or “donut” and a

speed boat pulls them around in the water. That sounds really fun and I would love the chance to

do it one day. I guess I finally solved the case of “What happened to Miss. Smith”.

Beginning the Journey

By: Emily Bottiglier

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you actually started to bake? Now, I’m not talking “baking” like out

of the box cake mixes, I’m talking about actually baking a batch of cookies or a batch of cupcakes from scratch. When

you’re just starting out in baking, you want to do a simple bake like cookies or cupcakes. Before you start baking, you want

to gather your materials: ingredients, recipe, utensils, parental supervision, and your bowls/ objects you’re mixing the ingre-

dients in. Make sure whoever’s supervising you knows how to bake and/ or be safe around heat.By the way, if you’re making

cupcakes, I suggest using the recipe provided below. If you’re a beginner, the recipe below is really simple and it would be

the easiest to start out with.

Vanilla Cupcakes

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon fine salt

2 large eggs, at room temperature

2/3 cup sugar

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

Equipment:

A 12-cup standard muffin tin or two 24-cup mini-muffin tins, cupcake liners.

Directions:

1.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and position a rack in the middle of the oven. Line one 12-cup standard muffin tin

or two 24-cup mini-muffin tins with cupcake liners

2.Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a medium bowl.

3.In another medium bowl, beat the eggs and sugar with an electric mixer until light and foamy, about 2 minutes. While

beating, gradually pour in the melted butter and then the vanilla.

4.While mixing slowly, add half of the flour mixture. Then add all the milk, followed by the remaining flour mixture;

take care not to overmix the batter. Divide the batter evenly in the prepared muffin tin.

5.Bake until a cake tester inserted into the center of the cupcakes comes out clean, rotating the tin about halfway

through baking time, 18 to 20 minutes for standard cupcakes or 10 to 12 minutes for minis. Cool the cupcakes in the tin

on a rack for 10 minutes, then remove from the tin and cool on the rack completely. Frost and decorate as desired.

American Buttercream Frosting

INGREDIENTS:

2 STICKS (8 OUNCES) UNSALTED BUTTER, AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

4 cups confectioners' sugar (1-pound box)

Pinch fine salt

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 to 2 tablespoons milk

Directions:

Combine the butter, sugar and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or in a large bowl if using

a handheld electric mixer). Mix on low speed until mostly incorporated. Add the vanilla, increase the speed to medium-high

and mix until smooth. Adjust the consistency with milk as desired. Use immediately, or refrigerate in an airtight container

up to 3 days. Allow to come to room temperature and mix on medium-high until smooth.
