The Trai Lua Viet Staff would like to invite your Lien Doan to attend Trai Lua Viet 8. With a myriad of troops and scouts in the D.C. Metropolitan Area, Trai Lua Viet is an excellent way to meet members of the scouting community and to bond with our fellow scouters. The camp program is specifically engineered so that campers have a memorable experience while promoting scout spirit and strengthening the relationships between scouts, lien doans, and our region. Please thoroughly read this information packet as the rules and details are imperative and will be strictly followed. How to Register: 1. Send Troop Roster to Jonathantran95@gmail.com

a. Please list the number of patrols and number of members in order to create teams2. Complete the Individual Registration form on either the Google Form or enclosed below

3. Troop Leader compiles all forms and camp fees (one check made payable to Dennis-Bao Nguyen)

4. Troop Leader gives all forms and check to someone in his/her troop who is on staff. The staff member will give it to Jonathan Tran at the TLV Staff meeting on April 20

5. Notify Jonathan Tran at Jonathantran95@gmail.com as to who will hand him the forms and check.

6. If no scout is on staff from your troop, notify Jonathan Tran at Jonathantran95@gmail.com to arrange an alternate plan

7. Registration is not complete without ALL Forms and Payment i.e Turn in Money on 3/22 but Forms on 4/10 will require the additional payment fee to be turned in as well

Camp fee: ● $15 per person from March 5th to March 26th● Late registration $20 from March 27th to April 22nd

Rules and Regulations1. Observe all Lake Fairfax Park rules. 2. Respect all campers3. No running in camp4. No roughhousing5. Fighting will lead to disciplinary actions by leader6. No Smoking/Drinking on Camp Grounds

-If parents want to smoke, they may do so away from campgrounds near the parking lots at Lake Fairfax’s Entrance

7. Campers must have a buddy at all times, only boys can be buddies with other boys, and same goes for girls. Boys and girls cannot buddy together alone.8. No fires, only in appropriated areas9. No climbing camp gate at non designated times. 10. Be Friendly and have Fun!!

Directions to Lake Fairfax

From the Beltway - Lake Fairfax Park may be reached by taking Beltway Exit 47A which is Route 7 or Leesburg Pike west to a left on Baron Cameron Avenue to the second left on Lake Fairfax Drive.

From 270 - Merge on to I-270, keep right onto I-270 SPUR towards 495 Washington / Northern Virginia. I-270 SPUR S becomes I-495 S / CAPITAL BELTWAY (crossing into VIRGINIA). Travel about 6.6 miles and merge onto VA-267 W via EXIT 45A toward DULLES AIRPORT (portions toll). After about 1.7 miles merge onto LEESBURG PIKE / VA-7 W via EXIT 16 toward LEESBURG. Travel down Rt. 7 for about five miles and turn left onto Barron Cameron Road. At the second light turn left onto Lake Fairfax Drive. This road will lead you into the park.

From D.C. - From 495 coming from Washington D.C., merge onto VA-267 W via EXIT 45 on the LEFT toward DULLES AIRPORT (portions toll). After about 1.7 miles merge onto LEESBURG PIKE / VA-7 W via EXIT 16 toward LEESBURG. Travel down Rt. 7 for about five miles and turn left on to Barron Cameron Road. At the second light turn left onto Lake Fairfax Drive. This road will lead you into the park.

From Rt. 81 - Once on 81 merge onto I-66 E via EXIT 300 toward FORT ROYAL / WASHINGTON, then after about 53 miles Take the FAIRFAX CO PKWY / VA-7100 exit- EXIT 55- toward SPRINGFIELD / RESTON / HERNDON. Merge onto VA-7100 N / FAIRFAX COUNTY PKWY / Towards RESTON/ HERNDON and travel about 9.4 miles. Then Merge onto BARON CAMERON AVE / VA-606 E. Travel about 2.8 miles and turn right onto Lake Fairfax Drive which will lead you directly into the park.

Parking● 1 parking pass/per Lien Doan will be distributed at Registration

○ MUST display on dashboard in order to park at the campsite otherwise will be towed. This car is for emergency purposes only. Car should not be driven in and

out during camp unless in case of emergency.● One way road, must drive at 5MPH● There are parking lots located near the Lake Fairfax entrance

Drop Off/ Pick Up:● Cars without permit are not allowed in the campgrounds. When dropping off campers,

please do so before 9 pm on Friday. ● If you do not have a pass to park in the campsite, you may enter with a car by giving up

your driver’s license to the staff at the entrance. If no staff is present, you may not enter.● Cars may not enter the camp after the drop off time.● To ensure the safety of the campers, cars may only enter the camp for pick up after

closing ceremony on Sunday at 10:30am. ● If campers are arriving on Saturday, you must park in the designated parking lot area and

walk into the campgrounds.

Night Shifts:Five night shifts per night (Friday and Saturday):

Each troop needs 2 volunteers for security● Volunteers must provide cell phone number ● Arrive 10 minutes early to designated place to switch off shifts

● We are looking for doctors, EMT’s, paramedics, and other medically certified parents who are willing to volunteer.

● We will have 3 time block. Each time block has 2 shifts. This is the ideal schedule but will most likely not happen. For the night shift, we are asking that volunteers sleep there and just be present in case of emergency.

● Each LD should provide 2 older scouts to be present at the first aid station at all times. Those medical professionals will be notified that they are on call when on their shift.

● Medical professionals will not be needed in the medical area at all times.● LD’s must provide 2 older scouts to be present overnight in case of emergency.

There will also be professionals on call but will be at their own campsite.● These are the shifts:

1A- 8 am to 12pm1B- 12 pm to 4 pm2A- 4 pm to 8 pm2B- 8 pm to 12 am3A- 12 am to 4 am 3B- 4 am to 8 am

We are still looking for available volunteers. _____________________________________________________________________________Cooking Contest

1. 4 members per lien doan2. Time allocation: 1 hour 15 minutes 3. Each participating team must prepare an appetizer, entree, and dessert. It must be based

around a disney movie (e.g. appetizer, main course, and dessert are all centered around Aladdin, so the dishes will be inspired by middle eastern cuisine) and will use the secret ingredient, which will be given at the time of the contest.

● Teams must be able to give a description of the food, origins of the food, and why it is distinctive in that particular movie.

4. No food is allowed to be prepared at home except for the following: -Plain white rice, (no extra ingredients can be added) -Meat and seafood may be cleaned, but not cooked before hand.

5. NO NUTS OF ANY KIND6. Teams cannot communicate with parents, leaders, or other scouts when the cooking

period begins. 7. Teams will be judged by the camp chiefs and the cooking committee staff.
