Following fruitless talks and promises of better service by the Thulamela municipality, res idents of Tshiema in Lwamondo have vowed not to register for the forthcoming general elections in 2014.

The community adds to the other disgruntled communities like Malamulele and Bekkersdal, who have decided to use their vote as a weapon to get the atten-tion of the government.

Tshiema village, which has more than 100 households, is one of the most disad-vantaged in Thulamela, with basics like water non-existent. Electricity is a luxury for them.

The local traditional leader in the area, Chief Nthsumiseni Nemuk-ovhani, said they had outstanding issues with the municipality they want sorted out before they could even think of registering for the forthcoming elections. "We have waited for a long time for the elec-tricity to be switched on after it was completed in 2012. We have been to all the offices you can talk of at Thulamela. We have tried everything in the book and we even presented our problem to the public protector, but in vain,” he added.

According to him, they do not have a constant supply of water and all the problems they are experiencing “leaves us with no option but to voice our frustra-tions in a very peaceful way, by not voting," he said.

Nemukovhani said they were tired of being used by politicians for their own selfish ends. "They only come to us when they need our votes, but soon after we vote them in, they disappear. As a community with all structures united, we thought this would

open their ears and they would listen to us," added Nemuk-ovhani.

The community of Mutshetoni, also in Lwamondo, have stayed away from registering for the elections.

"We have nothing to gain from these elections. How can we vote for people who do not listen to the cries of the people? It is better not to be part of processes that benefit only a few," said Chief Tshisiwana Ndou, the local tra-ditional leader.

Tshiema residents vow not to register

Malamulele residents boycott registrationMost of the residents of Malam-ulele ignored the voter registra-tion in the area last weekend.

According to residents, the boycott is part of their demands for an own municipality. They are demanding their own mu-nicipality. This demand caused huge problems in the area, and thousands of residents went on the rampage, barricading roads, burning tyres, shops and gov-ernment offices last month. The rampage was the reaction to the Municipal Demarcation Board’s announcement that they will not have a separate municipality.

The provincial electoral com-missioner, Ms Nkaro Mateta, confirmed to Limpopo Mirror that some residents had boycotted the voter registration weekend,

with officials working outside the stations’ premises. Mateta said registration in the province progressed smoothly, but only 52 people had registered in Mala-mulele. The IEC in the province insisted that they went to all the stations with their equip-ment. Though most schools were locked, they were conducting their registration procedure out-side those schools' gates. “People were able to register outside the school premises. We tried our best to get the keys, but they were not available,” she added.

Mateta said most people could not register during the weekend because they were threatened or intimidated. Some people were told that if they registered, their houses would be burned down.

She acknowledged that the IEC was informed that some people attempted to disrupt officials at the stations, but did not succeed.

She added that the IEC would continue to strive to reach the people who did not register dur-ing the weekend. “We will try to reach those people through our outreach programmes, liaising with civil society groups that work for us,” she said.

The Malamulele Demarcation Task Team had distanced itself from the alleged disruption. The task team’s spokesperson, Dr Isaiah Ndambi, said they were not aware of any incident. “We just heard about the problem and we will meet with the relevant stakeholders to sort out the prob-lem,” Ndambi said.

People from all over the country flocked to their nearest IEC voting stations to register for the 2014 general elections. Photographed at one of the centres are Mrs Makgatho Tebogo Depsey (right), an IEC official, Nathaniel Luvhengo (middle), who was registering for the first time, and Mrs Gladys Netshitulame (left) IEC co-ordinator.

from p1Reacting after the explosion,

DA Limpopo leader Mr Jacques Smalle said the accident could have been averted if the depart-ment had changed the equipment, which is said to be very old. “The situation at our hospitals is very dangerous to work in and similar incidents could be imminent if the department does not maintain its equipment.

Staff are already working in difficult conditions, with severe staff shortages and large numbers of patients. Hospital infrastruc-

ture in general is also not up to scratch, placing pressure on staff and their ability to deliver quality medical services. It is completely unacceptable that basic kitchen appliances are also defective and clearly pose a danger,” Smalle added.

Mr Musingadi’s brother, Mr Takalani Musingadi, said the family was overwhelmed with grief and in a state of shock. “Reuben was a good man who looked after his family. He was the sole breadwinner in the fam-ily. He has six kids, who are now

left without a father. They have no one to look after them.”

He said Reuben had a premo-nition about his death and wanted to sort his things out before he died.

“Recently he phoned me and told me that he wanted one of his daughters to stay with me and attend school where I stay. This surprised me that he suddenly wanted this arrangement,” added Musingadi.

Funeral arrangements are un-derway and the funeral is set for this weekend.

In recent times, Thohoyandou town has been hit hard by mysterious fires which have left heavy losses in their wake.

Not long ago, a big complex was completely gutted when a massive fire swept through it, leaving millions of rands in damages.

This weekend, another complex caught fire and some shops had all their contents destroyed. Saturday morning shoppers were in for a big shock when they arrived at the complex, only to find it engulfed

was completely gutted and nothing was saved from the shop. Damage at the shop is estimated in excess of R1 million.

Adjacent shops were not spared either as they had some losses.

Mysterious fire destroys shops in Thohoyandounot have water.

Reacting to allegations that the Vhembe fire fighters arrived at the scene but could not do anything as they did not have water, Vhembe district spokesperson Mr Matodzi Ra-lushai said they had had a breakdown with the truck they were using.

"We responded in time, at about 04:50, only to find that our truck had technical problems. Our nearest sta-tion is at Mutale and we had to wait for them. Unfortunately, some of the shops were already gutted when they

arrived. They took control, however, and stopped it from spreading to other shops. We will see to it that our vehicles are maintained at all times to avert situations like this one," added Ralushai.

Thohoyandou police spokesperson Const Avhafarei Tshiovhe said that the police had opened an arson docket and a full investigation to determine the cause of the fire was underway. “We have roped in our forensic col-leagues, who are sifting the scene for evidence," added Tshiovhe.

SASSA offi cial receives injuries in knife attackThe Makhado offi ce of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) was closed for service on Monday, after a 29-year-old mentally ill man had stabbed an offi cial with a knife.

According to eyewitnesses, a man arrived out-side the offi ce and started shouting that he wanted his money. Onlookers were shocked when he suddenly produced a knife and stabbed a female offi cial in the shoulder.

Limpopo SASSA’s spokesperson, Mr Norman Kutama, denied the rumour that the offi cial was attacked inside the offi ce. “The offi cial was managing the queue outside the of-fi ce for smooth service, when a man stabbed her once in the shoulder,” Kutama said.

According to Kutama, the victim was rushed to the Zoutpansberg Pri-vate Hospital for immediate medical attention and was discharged on the same day. All staff received pro-fessional counselling following the incident. “The counselling is meant to help them re-adjust to the working environment,” he stated. “We also thank the police, who responded to the incident quickly.”

Kutama advised the guardians of the mentally ill to always try to ac-company them whenever they visit the offi ce. “Some mentally ill clients might be impatient and could also take time to understand when we explain about the processes for grant applications or re-applications,” he said. After the man had stabbed the

offi cial, the offi ce closed its doors for the whole day.

Clients, some of whom had trav-elled all the way from Nthabalala and Nzhelele, returned without having been helped. “I don’t think I will be able to come here tomorrow; I had used my last money for today’s transport,” said Ms Ndivho Mudau, a mother of six children.

The police’s provincial spokesper-son, Col Ronél Otto, confi rmed that the suspect was arrested and charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

“The victim didn’t sustain any grave injuries,” Otto said. “The suspect is a regular, mentally ill patient and the lady is the one who regularly assists him. He will appear in court either today (Tuesday) or on Wednesday.”

When Limpopo Mirror visited the SASSA offi ce on Tuesday, two security offi cers were seen among a throng of clients. “People should feel safe and free to visit the offi ce,” said Kutama.

Bangladesh shop owner killedThe SAPS at Musina arrested a 35-year-old Johannesburg male suspect in connection with charges of murder, attempted murder and house robbery on Saturday.

The spokesperson for the Musina police, Lt Peter Mudau, said that the suspect, who has been identifi ed as Xolani Ronald ‘Khulani’ Dombeni, and three other suspects, who are still at large, allegedly entered a house at Frost Avenue.

“They then robbed the inhabitants of at least R500 000 in cash and three mobile phones,” Mudau said. “The four were armed with pistols, which they used to threaten the victims. The police recovered R243 000 and three phones.”

After the robbery, said Mudau, the four suspects met a 35-year-old Bang-ladesh man, Mr Debnash Ratan, along

Hans van der Merwe Street and shot him in the chest. “The victim died,” Mudau confi rmed.

Mudau added that the four men then ran away from the scene of the crime and met another man who was also walking along Hans van der Merwe Street. “They shot him in the stomach,” Mudau said. “The victim was rushed to the hospital and was later identifi ed as Edwin Nega, who is 34 years of age. Nega is responding well to medical treatment so far.”

The police managed to arrest Dombeni, while the other three sus-pects evaded arrest. “We will do our best as law-enforcers to make sure that even those other three suspects are arrested and brought to book,” stated Mudau.

Dombeni resides at Zonkezizwe Zone 3, Kathlehong, in Johannesburg.

Parents upset after newborn dies in hospitalA resident of Madombidzha village, Tshilidzi Magadani (29), gave birth while wait-ing on a sofa at the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hos-pital. She now blames the hospital for her newborn baby’s death.

The incident happened on 20 September at around 03:00. Magadani said that she was admitted to the hos-pital three days earlier. “On the third day, I was sitting on a sofa when I started experiencing labour pains and I started screaming for the nurses

to come and attend to me,” she explained. She added that the four nurses on duty were sitting behind the counter at the ward’s reception. One of the nurses came and listened to her as she informed her (the nurse) that the baby was on its way.

“She told me that I knew nothing about the right time for the baby to

come, and then she walked away,”

Magadani said in a pained voice. “As I winced and strug-gled by myself on the sofa, the baby just rocketed out of me and hit the fl oor hard in front of my eyes. All the nurses rose at once and rushed towards me.”

Nurses then picked the baby up and went away, said Magadani. She was then at-

tended to. “The next thing, they informed me that my baby was dead and that I should just accept it,” she told Lim-popo Mirror. “I cried and wept day and night for the next three days, which I was made to spend in the hospital.”

When she entered the maternity ward, Magadani’s pros-pects were that she would walk out of the hospital gates, cuddling a beauti-ful, healthy baby in her arms, but that was not going to be. She staggered

out of the LTT Memorial Hospital, hounded by the thought that she had lost her

baby. “The pain is still heavy on me even today, and it’s part of the reason why I have de-cided to share my plight with everyone,” she said.

Magadani’s spouse, Mr Nature Biller (29), went to request the baby’s death cer-tifi cate and it was issued to him on 27 September. “My friend, what happened to my wife is very traumatising,” said Biller. “Today I live and sleep in the same house with a woman who just weeps unexpectedly, and when I ask her what the problem is, she refers to the senseless incident that happened in the hospital. This thing is very hard on me.”

On the death certificate which Limpopo Mirror viewed, ‘’natural causes’’ is cited as the cause of the baby’s death.

The spokesperson for the Department of Health, Adele van der Linde, said that the department would investigate the case to find out what exactly had happened on that day. “In the meantime, we will arrange for the lady (Ms Magadani) to go for counsel-ling,” said Van der Linde.

A 32-year-old Zimbabwean cigarette smuggler, who was part of a group, was shot and injured while trying to flee from the police at an illegal crossing point along the Lim-popo River.

Police spokesperson Chief Supt Lawrence Chinhengo said the incident happened about two weeks ago.

The injured was later identi-fied as Christopher Chipeta of Masvingo.

“The suspect was part of a group of smugglers who were travelling in a minibus with near-ly 400 bricks of cigarettes with a street value of R11 200. We got a tip-off about the incident and deployed our patrol teams to ambush them,” said Chinhengo.

He said when the group later arrived in their minibus, they were ordered to stop and, fearing arrest, they grabbed the cigarettes and tried to flee from the scene. “Our officers ran after them and

fired three warning shots, but the suspects resisted and, as a result, the police shot at Chipeta, who was in the front.”

He was shot in the left thigh and was taken to the Beit Bridge District Hospital, where he is recuperating under police guard. The rest of the group eventually stopped and surrendered.

“We have since recovered the cigarettes and the suspects will soon appear in court on smug-gling charges,” Chinhengo said.

Zimbabwean receive life for murderA 27-year-old Zimbabwean man was sentenced to life im-prisonment when he appeared in the Thohoyandou High Court last Friday.

About two weeks ago, Judge Khami Makhafola found Mar-shall Zumbudzana guilty of hacking Mr Sonnyboy Nkosi (40) to death with a spade at Muduluni village on 17 March 2012. Nkosi was Zimbudzana's co-worker and a foreman at a borehole company. The incident happened at the home of a client, where the two were stationed to drill a borehole.

Judge Makhafola re-jected Zimbudzana's claim that he hadn't killed Nkosi, and that he was shocked and surprised to find Nko-si lying dead when he returned from buying some cigarettes at a nearby kiosk.

Zumbuzana, initially, was “speechless” when the court afforded him the opportunity to give evidence in mitigation of sentence last month. However, his quietness prompted Judge Makha-fola to request the De-partment of Social De-velopment in Vhembe

to assign a probation officer who would have a session with the convicted Zumbudzana. The of-ficial was then required to submit a written report in mitigation of the convict's sentence.

The investigating officer, W/O Takalani Sidimela, sighed with releif immediately when the court adjourned after sentencing. “This was one of the most complex cases that I had to deal with, but

it's all fine that it has eventually been finalised,” said Sidimela.

Nkosi's widow, Ms Joyce Ramaropi (41), said that she was relieved that the case had come to an end.

“Maybe I will have peace of mind now, knowing that I will never have to travel to and from court again,” she said.

Nkosi was a resident of Tshi-khwani in Madombidzha village.

A lone Marshall Zumbudzana is destined to sit in jail for life.

State funeral for dedicated policemanA much-decorated and ded-icated police officer, W/O Thomas Ravele (44) of Ha-Ra-mukhuba in Vuwani, who passed away last week, was given a state funeral over the weekend.

Ravele worked at the Vuwani Police Station and passed away after a long illness. Family, friends and fellow police of-ficers, led by the station commis-sioner, Col Heinrich Volgraaff, came in numbers to pay their

last respects. A procession some kilometres long was evidence that Ravele had made an impact at work and in the community he lived in.Speaking during the funeral, Volgraaff said Ravele displayed exceptional dedica-

tion and determination in his work. “We are here burying not an ordinary person, but a dedicated officer with many years of service. Throughout his career, he had accumulated many awards, among them long-service awards. We urge all to emulate his good work and to follow in the footsteps of this dedicated officer,” said Volgraaff. Af-ter the service, held at his home, officers marched to the near-by cemetery, where he was buried. Rav-ele leaves his wife, Vhonani, and three children.

Tshivenda Bibles for Mamathieledzha pupilsGrade 7 pupils from Mama-thie ledzha Primary in Ha-Sidou village outside Tho-hoyandou received Tshivenda Bibles during a ceremony at the school on Monday.

“We want our pu-pils to learn good mor-als. If they know God, we will have future leaders who respect their elders,” said Cllr David Mamushiana during the ceremony. Mamushiana repre-sented the sponsor of the Bibles, Pastor Ma-fhungo Rashaka. Ac-cording to the princi-pal, Mr Mmbangiseni Nengwenani, they are blessed to bring Chris-tianity to the pupils of his school.

“Good morals and values among the pu-pils will be the order of the day in our school and even at their homes. A life in God

will prevent the youngsters from becoming involved in crime,” he added. One of the pupils who received a Bible, Good-ness Ndonyana, said she and the others were thankful for the

Bibles, because they described the route to a life of faith. “Our life at school and homes will change for the better if we study our Bibles,” she added.

Cllr David Mamushiana presents Bibles to the Grade 7s. With them in the photo are the principal, Mr Mmbangiseni Nengwenani, and a teacher, Ms Mashango Mugwena.

A retired principal, Mr Wil-son Matamba Manenzhe (65), advised pupils to be obedient and to listen to their elders if they want to become better people in life. He was speaking during the farewell ceremony held for him at Schoemansdal Environmental Education Cen-tre last Friday.

Teachers and pupils from Nnd-wakhulu Senior Primary School in Madombidzha bade a fond farewell to Manenzhe, who had taught at the school for almost 35 years. Manen-zhe said that the school had produced teachers, lawyers and doctors because they listened. “I used to tell people that I have taught their parents and they should understand that the el-ders in their community are their parents too,” he said.

Mr Mashudu Munyai from the school govern-ing body commended Manenzhe for laying a solid foundation at

the school. “Your skills and knowledge are still required in our community. Give back to the community,” he asked.

The new principal, Ms Johan-na Ndadza, promised that she would continue to co-operate and involve the parents in their children’s education. “When we are working, there are obstacles along the way. We will continue

to involve the parents and it helps pupils to be responsible adults,” she said.

Pupils recited several poems during the ceremony to honour Mr Manenzhe for the work he has done in their school. The school also awarded trophies, medals and certificates to pupils who have performed well academi-cally throughout the year.

“Pupils must listen to their elders”

More than 100 beneficiaries at the Rivoni Society for the Blind rejoiced when the or-ganisation received clothes, shoes, blankets and a R10 000 donation on Friday.

The donation comes after the residents' house was gutted by a mysterious fire on 23 August. The residents were attending an evening sermon at a separate hall about 100 metres away when the incident took place.

“After the fire, residents were left without clothes, linen, beds and a roof over their heads,”

said the society's executive di-rector, Mr Pfumelani Mashaba.

The fire consumed the res-idents' food and personal be-longings, such as ID books, pocket money, mobile phones and the whole hostel block. The entire roof fell in.

After learning about the so-ciety's plight, Scorpion Legal Protection came to assess the damage and then decided to help. “We are giving the soci-ety some goods and R10 000 cash,” said Scorpion's Polok-wane branch manager, Edwin

Mukhomi.“We understand that our

help might seem very small, considering the nature of the damage that the society had suffered, but we hope that other businesses will also help where they can.”

A visually impaired pupil and resident at the society, Mr Maanda Gandamipfa (26), thanked the donor. “Your sup-port shows love to us,” he said. “God will bless you richly for the little that you've given us today.”

A ray of hope for Society for the Blind

Residents and pupils at the Rivoni Society for the Blind are seen here with officials from Scorpion Legal Protection.Pictured during the conference are (from left to right) Mr Rudi de Bruyn (regional manager),

Ms Tshilidzi Murodoba (shop steward), Mr Johannes Tholo (Limpopo regional chairperson), Mr Stanley Khoza, Mr Keith Swanepoel (IMATU deputy president) and Mr Phillip Rambuda (Makhado branch chairperson).

Imatu re-affirms its political independenceThe president of the Inde-pendent Municipal and Al-lied Trade Union (IMATU) re-affirmed the union's com-mitment to retain political independence.

Mr Stanley Khoza was speak-ing during the IMATU Limpopo Conference 2013, which was held at Northgate Lodge on 23 to 25 October.

“IMATU is not a friend of any political party,” said Khoza.

“The union has always be-lieved that a political union is best placed to serve its mem-

bers.”During the conference, Kho-

za stated that members would receive preferential service and treatment if IMATU was aligned to any political entity.

“IMATU remains committed to worker-based issues, such as the protection of municipal workers' rights and fair wage negotiations,” he said.

The union will also remain committed to the upholding of basic conditions of service in the local government sector, equality in the work place and promoting

a sustainable local government through social transformation.

Makhado IMATU branch's chairperson, Mr Phillip Ram-buda, welcomed the president's presence during the conference.

“Pres Khoza's statement that the union is free from politics or any political affliations helped revive the spirits of members to better understand the vision of the union,” said Rambuda.

“As the Makhado branch shop stewards, we are prepared to ad-dress any cases brought forward by our members appropriately.”

Singing teacher soon back on Muvhango setThe famous character of Vho-Phusu-phusu on the much-celebrated SABC 2 Tshivenda soapie Muvhango will soon be back on the small screen.

The character was last seen in June 2010 and it is still played by the same multi-talented Jacky Nethomboni, who wears many hats as a prolific individual.

During the week, Nethomboni is an arts and culture, agricultural science and English teacher at Nngweni High School in the Nzhelele area.

Come weekend time, and as a success-ful famous reggae music artist, Nethom-boni will either be performing in gigs or recording his music in the studio.

Nethomboni says he balances his acting and music careers to make sure that it does not interfere with his teaching profession. “I concentrate on my television career dur-ing school holidays or weekends. During the week, I make sure that I work hard at school to give my pupils the best education that they deserve.”

Asked about what his character entails in Muvhango, Nethomboni says: “I play an old man called Vho-Phusuphusu. In Tshivenda, Phusuphusu means somebody who always causes trouble. During my role in 2010, I used to dispute Azwindini’s chieftainship. I wanted Mulalo to be the

chief of Thathe and I did everything to make sure that Azwindini’s chieftainship was destroyed. Now that Azwindini has been arrested, I will continue my role to cause trouble in the royal family of Thathe.”

Nethomboni is not a novice in the entertainment industry. He has also previ-ously played in dramas on Phalaphala FM. “Among others, I played in a drama called Vho Fasha Mmbwa and my character was of a wealthy man, called Dan, who ended

up bankrupt because of his multiple love affairs with different women. I also played in a drama called Zwipopola zwa vhafunzi as a controversial pastor, called Vhafunzi Vho-Mangungu.”

And his message to the young people who would like to follow television or music careers is: “The most important thing is to get education first because you will always have something to lean on if you are not doing well in the entertainment industry.”

School teacher and reggae musician Jacky Nethomboni has relaunched his television career as Vho-Phusuphusu on SABC 2’s soapie Muvhango.

An elderly lady, who has been waiting since January for her ID book to be issued to her, Ms Johannah Mahlangu, says that her patience has run out.

Mahlangu's story was published in Limpopo Mirror (18 January), after she claimed that she was “unfairly dismissed” when she went to apply for a change-of-date-of-birth in her identity book on 5 December 2012.

The Home Affairs office in Makhado contacted Mahlangu after seeing the story in the newspaper and assisted her. “They told me it wouldn't take more than three months before I could get my new ID book,” said Mahlangu when Limpopo Mirror recently visited her at her home at Tshikwarani village. “Nine months have passed, and when I visit Home Affairs (Makhado office), they tell me that they do not manufacture ID books,” she continued.

When she first went to the Makhado office on 5 December, an official allegedly told her that there was no money available for her at SASSA. “Now I feel more than dissappointed,” she said in a disil-lusioned, pained voice. “Next year I am not going to vote. I know Pres (Jacob) Zuma has nothing to do with this, as he might not be aware of the bad attitude of the people in the office. But I feel that I can't waste my vote!”

Mahlangu said that, a fortnight ago, an official had called her from the Makhado office and told her to come to collect her ready ID book. “But when I got there, they started searching all over the place and couldn't find it,” she added. “So I wonder if they were playing a trick on me, just to raise my expectations.”

When contacted for comment, the provincial spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs, Mr Sam Moremi, referred us to the department's manager, Ms Florah Motsitsi. However, Motsitsi was not available at the time of going to press.

“I am not going to vote next year”

A disappointed Mahlangu says that she is not going to vote next year.

Last Thursday (7th) not only saw the birthday of Lt Col Frans Jacob Labuschagne, but was also the day he was welcomed as the new officer commanding of 85 Combat Flying School (CFS) at AFB Makhado.

Boasting 3 370 military flying hours, Labuschagne was born on 7 November 1975 at AFB Lange-baanweg and took over command from Lt Col Daan van der Linde. Labuschagne joined the South African Air Force (SAAF) in 1994 after he had matriculat-ed from the Vredenburg High School. He received his SAAF’s

air wings at CFS Langebaanweg during December 1997, after first qualifying as an air load master on C 130s at 28 Squadron AFB Waterkloof.

After completing a tour at AFB Swartkops’s 42 Squadron, flying the Cessna 185, Labus-chagne was transferred back to Langebaanweg in 1999, where he completed his instructor’s course. A few years followed where he tutored on the Cessna 185.

During 2002, the new officer commanding received his fighter pilot training at 85 CFS Hoed-spruit, after which he also com-pleted the Cheetah operational

conversion course at 2 Squadron at AFB Makhado, and served as the surface warfare and survival officer.

Labuschagne also spent some time in the Democratic Repub-lic of the Congo, when he was deployed there as the aviation element commander in 2012, supporting the United Nations' peace-keeping mission. Apart from flying the Gripen, La-buschagne has also performed low-level aerobatic displays in the PC 7 MKII Astra and the Impala. He is also an A1 category pilot attack instructor on Hawk aircraft.

Qualifications open new world

“Rapist father” case postponed

Two girls can smile again

Students who received their quali-fications at Mvelaphanda Commu-nity Skillls Development a fortnight ago, were on cloud nine when they were called to the podium one by one to receive their certificates.

The 24 students from two rural communities of Hasidou and Jim Kone outside Thohoyandou met the requirements for a basic computing course after undergoing a one-year training. They were part of the more than 600 students who received diplomas and certificates in skills such as carpentery, motor mechanic, upholstery, boilermaking, catering and others.

The successful candidates received their certificates in the presence of traditional leaders from the two vil-lages during a ceremony held at the Thohoyandou Town Hall.

The training came about after a teacher of Mamathiliedza Primary School, Mr Mmbangiseni Neng-wenani, noticed that many of the parents could not assist their children when it came to paying for some necessities at the school.

“We are located at the most remote and rural setting, where parents can-not even afford uniforms for their

children. After careful research, we found that these women needed to be empowered, so that they could sustain themselves, and the answer was to equip them with skills that they could use to fend for themselves,” he said.

Ms Mpho Phaswana (33), one of the successful candidates, said the skills they had acquired had opened up a new world for them. “We were doing absolutely nothing when this opportunity availed itself. With the new skills we can now compete with others on the job market. We can even start our own businesses and also employ others and this will mean change in our village and our own families,” she said.

The owner of the school, Ms Esther Mushaathama, said her family was so poor that they could not afford to send her to school.

“I was also helped by other peo-ple to be where I am today. This is plough-back time for me and the college. We will always extend our hand to the poorest communities out there and empower them in one way or another,” she said.

Chief Paulus Kone was also ex-cited, saying the skills wouldl mean development in his area.

The Vuwani Magistrate’s Court was packed to capacity last Mon-day, when a 39-year-old resident of Tshifulanani appeared for allegedly raping his two daughters.

According to the police, the eldest of the two victims is two years old.

Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi of the Limpopo Police said that the mother of the two was attending a church

service about a fortnight ago, and the father looked after them. Upon her arrival hot home, the mother alleg-edly discovered her daughters had been raped as she noticed blood clots on their private parts. The two were taken to Tshilidzini Hospital, where a doctor confirmed they had been raped.

The case was postponed for 25 November for a bail application.

Two Louis Trichardt high school girls who couldn’t interact with others due to malocclusion can now smile charmingly, after getting a free treatment from orthodontist Dr Phumudzo Machaka of the Makhado Medical Centre a fort-night ago.

Because of the density of their teeth, the two girls, Tsholofelo Mo-letsane (18), a Grade 12 pupil, and Anzel Lourens (14), a Grade 8 pupil, couldn’t interact with others, as they were the laughing stock of their schoolmates. They also had mouth sores and couldn’t enjoy food. The mouth infection also deformed their faces. Their problems came to an end after one of their teachers, Ms Johan-na Steyn, requested the orthodontist, Dr Phumudzo Machaka, to help and to give the young girls a new lease on life for free.

Machaka said he was deeply touched by the girls’ problems. He

said he decided to help them by shaping their teeth for free just to give them self-esteem. The cost for malocclusion treatment is R15 000 upwards.

It can take between six months and two years for the teeth to be rectified.

“Malocclusion is most often he-reditary, which means the condition is passed down through families. Childhood habits such as thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, pacifiers used beyond the age of three and prolonged use of a bottle can cause the problem,” he said.

Mrs Lizelle Lourens, the mother of Anzel, thanked Dr Machaka and the teachers of the school for “bringing back confidence to her daughter”. She said her daughter could now give a charming smile. Lourens said she couldn’t afford the treatment. The happy Tsholofelo said she could now interact with classmates without problems.

Mvelaphanda Community Skills development director Ms Esther Mushaathama (front) and Chief Paulus Kone of Jim Kone congratulate the successful candidates during the ceremony.

Musina municipal workers, busy fixing roads as part of the skills-transfer road-repair maintenance plan.

Infrastructure

Road repair project starts in MusinaRoad users in Musina will soon sigh with relief after the local municipality started to roll out the first phase of a road-repair maintenance plan.

The R1 million first phase is part of a R6.8 million total budget that has been set aside by the municipality for this project. The project is unique because it is a mixture of both service delivery and skills transfer.

“Part of the agreement with the service providers is that they will train municipal workers for two months in basic road-re-pair skills, asphalt mixing and road-machinery operation. This means that, after the completion

of the project, municipal work-ers will be equipped with the knowledge and skills that they will be able to use to maintain the roads without the assistance of any service providers,” said municipal spokesperson Wilson Dzebu.

He added that the municipal-ity was aware of the bad state of the roads and was doing everything to make sure that the road network was maintained and safe to travel. “Roads are an integral part of our transport system.

It is important that our road network should be efficient in order to maximize economic and social benefits. Roads are

indispensable for commuting in daily life. Time for travel-ling is also reduced if the road infrastructure is good. Efficient roads will considerably improve velocity of the vehicles. The more the roads are maintained, the more easily people can trav-el," he added.

Dzebu also mentioned that the present road networks in Musina and in the rural areas were adequate to meet people's needs for smooth communica-tion, but most of the old roads needed repair and the network as a whole called for substan-tial expenditure for continuous maintenance and improvement of the existing infrastructure.

Cliff Khomola standing outside his late parent’s house. The house started crumbling last year, forcing him to move in with his aunt.

A 21-year-old scholar, who has lost both parents in recent years, is seeking help after the house he was staying in started disintegrating. Cliff Khomo-la, who is doing Grade 12 at Tshamakwatini Secondary School, was left in the care of his aunt after abandoning his family’s house.

Cliff says he had to move in with his aunt because he does not have any income to maintain himself.

His parents initially applied for an RDP house before they passed away over half of a decade ago.

Today, Cliff’s hope of getting a house is fading.

With the support of his aunt, Cliff is battling to become a better person, hoping for a bright and promising future.

Despite all the odds and obsta-cles along the route, Cliff says he is studying very hard in the hope of securing a better tomorrow.

Speaking to Limpopo Mirror at his dilapidated and abandoned home at Ha-Mavhunga in Nzhe-lele, Cliff explains that the death of his both parents was harsh on him.

“If both your parents die while you are still young, it becomes extremely difficult to accept the situation, but you have to fight against all the challenges,” he says.

A member of the traditional council in the village, Mr Samson Makonde, says the family applied for an RDP house in 2007.

He says that, despite the de-layed application for the house, there have been other houses

built and, in some cases, the households did not need them urgently and had a place to stay.

According to Makonde, the traditional council reported the matter to the relevant authorities, but there has been no response. “We are appealing to the author-ities to rescue this young man in our village,” says Makonde.

Khomola says that he used to receive food parcels from the South African Social Se-curity Agency (SASSA) every month, until it stopped some three months ago.

“I thank my mother’s sister. If it were not for her, I would

have been suffering severely. Though she is struggling, she

endeavours by all means to en-sure that I go to school and am eating something daily,” he adds.

Waiting for RDP houses since 2006: From left are Mrs Lucy Nevilimadi, Mrs Tshifhiwa Tshikonwane, Ms Mulalo Makhado, Mr Andries Mudau and Mrs Diana Makhado.

“Our councillor is failing us” - community membersResidents of Ha-Mulambilu and Ha-Magwada villages in Nzhelele are accusing their councillor of deliberately failing to communicate issues of service delivery. They are insisting that the communication bungle has led to poor service delivery in their community.

Despite the recent communications bungle, Cllr Nemiyah Madzhiga of Ward 30 in the Makhado municipality is also accused of failing to account for the RDP house project, which was halted before its inception in 2006.

The halted RDP house project has caused a lot of tension in the village, with residents accusing the councillor of poor service delivery. Some of the beneficiaries are claiming that he was at the helm of Civic at the time and he should be held accountable for what had happened. When the RDP project started earlier in 2006, some 14 beneficiaries were identified and 30 bags of cement were delivered to their homes. It later turned out that the contractor had allegedly confiscated the bags of cement and told beneficiaries

that they would get them back later when their houses were being built. Since then, residents have been left in the cold, with some of the beneficiaries claiming they had demolished their huts to make space for the new houses.

The spokesman for the village's royal council, Mr Alfred Malusele, said Cllr Madzhiga was the chairperson of SANCO and the village's civic representative at the time. "He occupied several positions within the structures in the village, but he was not providing any information to the people," he said. Mr Madzhiga said people were told to demolish their shel-ters and they were still waiting. "It has been almost seven years and we are still waiting," he said.

The secretary of the royal council, Mr David Netshitahame, said they had engaged the councillor and he had told them he did not want to get involved in the housing project issue. "The municipality is issuing things to the people, but those who are supposed to channel them are failing to do so," he said.

Councillor Madzhiga condemned the allegations and insisted that he always distributed information to the people. "We always meet with the royal council, Sanco, the Civic and ward committees and discuss issues of service delivery twice a month," he said.

He said the 2006 RDP project failed because of problems that Coghsta (Co-op-erative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs) experienced at the time. "Most contractors were black-listed and most projects were affected, and these people happen to be the victims. Coghsta, however, has started consulting the affected people to help them get their houses," he said. He added that they would get the houses. "They need to be patient as Coghsta is dealing with this issue through the local municipality," he said.

Limpopo Mirror asked the municipal spokesperson, Mr Louis Bobodi, if those people had consulted the municipality about their predicament. He said the municipality was still investigating and would respond later.

New tourism facilities for Matsila area

Man (21) allegedly murders his granny

The general secretary of the ANC, Mr Gwede Mantashe, of-ficially opened the new Matsila Tourism Facilities a fortnight ago.

He was accompanied by the Minster of Rural Development, Mr Gugile Nkwiti, Chief Mandla Mandela, King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana and MEC Joyce Mashamba. A group of grannies and members of the community of Matsila were struggling to sustain their farming and bricks

projects for many years, due to a lack of funds. Relief came when Chief Livhuwani Matsila and the Matsila Development Trust received assistance from the Na-tional Lottery Board to develop their projects. Since the project was formed in 2010, the Matsila Development Trust and com-munity members have bought a tractor, a brickyard factory, 190 goats, 50 heads of cattle, and a guest lodge for accommodating tourists. They also joined a com-

munity water scheme.Mantashe said he had visited

the area to check if the ANC was really doing what it had promised the people. “The opening of Mat-sila Tourism Facilities is proof that the government is commit-ted to delivering services to the people. Government has declared war on poverty,” he added.

“This is a historic project for the people of Matsila, so I want all the people to benefit from it,” King Toni Mphephu said.

A 21-year-old man from Guyu village outside Beit Bridge was arrested last week for allegedly causing his 60 year-old grandmother’s death by hitting her with an iron bar on the head.

Police spokesperson A/Insp Christopher Ngwen-ya said the incident happened on Friday last week. It is alleged that Bekithemba Ndlovu assaulted Ms Kabelo Mdlongwa with an iron bar. Ndlovu had earlier been found at his home by his uncle, Tumelo Mdlongwa (27), assaulting Kabelo with the iron bar and even threatening to do the same to Tumelo, who at one time tried to stop him from assaulting his grandmother, Ngwenya said.

“On 8 November, at around 13:00, Tumelo, who is the son of Kabelo, came home from the grazing land where he had gone to look for his donkeys. He allegedly found Ndlovu striking Kabelo with an iron bar at their homestead,” said Ngwenya.

On seeing his mother being assaulted severely by Ndlovu, Tumelo tried to save her, but failed. Sens-ing danger, he ran for his life, leaving his mother at the mercy of Ndlovu, Ngwenya said.

Tumelo returned to the scene about 30 minutes later in the company of another villager, Mr Thulani Ncube.“When Tumelo returned home, he found his

mother lying in a pool of blood. She was already dead. Mr Ncube quickly apprehended Ndlovu and took him to the police station.”

Ndlovu will appear in court soon on a murder charge.

One of the greatest contributory factors towards the high rate of divorce is the notion of thinking that the grass is greener on the other side.

It is very easy to be charmed and get attracted to a colleague at work, especially when your marriage is facing its storms and you are not able to deal with the problem com-prehensively. No wonder you have individuals who no longer find their spouses attractive but are getting attracted to colleagues at work. Here are some key areas targeted by both men and women in this regard:

Communication: I know of men who will stop communicating with their wives at home, but would have the decency to communicate and be more open about any issue with their colleagues at work. They have no balls to talk about family problems, challenges about how children should be raised, their sex-ual problems and challenges (weak erection and early ejaculation), and finances, among others, at work but would not have the same guts to open up to their partners at home. The same applies to women who have the decency to smile, seduce and talk sweet to their colleagues at work whilst at home communication is falling apart. We always fall into a trap to think that these kinds of people are doing the same with their partners or to even think that you will forever get sweet talk when you are married to the other person. That, for me, is pure deception.

Appreciation: There are those who would leave their houses with-out kissing their spouses goodbye and even appreciate the beauty that they see in them (including compli-menting them for dressing well), but having the guts to compliment and appreciate their colleagues on a daily basis. That is, for me, hypocrisy at its best. Charity should begin at home and therefore we should learn to appreciate one another in our mar-riages because if we do not do that,

vultures will.Finances: There are those men

and women who will woo you by opening their purse in terms of pro-viding you with financial assistance as if they will sustain such forever. They will buy you petrol, lunch and even offer to pay your clothing account in an effort to get you to love them. If you are married to a person who is not working or if you are faced with a financial crisis in your household, it is easy to fall for such a trap, but it is just a matter of time before you will start realising that the other person’s charity is not going to last forever. Once you fall for the trap, you will repay whatever is spent on you a hundred times. You will find yourself drowning in more debt than before.

Sexual lingo: Sweet talk and sex-ual lingo that seeks to appetise both the male and female species have al-ways been used by vultures to snatch those who are happily married away from their marriages. "Hey sweety"; "chicken bone"; "yellow bone"; "my standard size" - these are some of the sweet words that are being used in such a time as this. We must stop this deception by using love language toward our spouses as we did yester-day. The grass is not always greener on the other side and therefore, instead of running away from your problems, face them and deal with them with an eye to finding a lasting solution. When the grass becomes dry in your home turf, you need to water it consist-ently and nurture it; then you w i l l g e t the desired outcome. - P r o f D e r r i c k M a s h a u , Unisa

A happy Albert Mudau with his Grade 7 pupils at Spectrum Primary School in Ennerdale, where he teaches social sciences and English.

Gospel star switches from microphone to chalk

Last chance to submit your winning photos

Gospel star Albert Mudau, whose disappearance from the music arena almost 10 months ago led to a lot of speculation, has come out to set the record straight.

Mudau, who used to entertain people at functions and churches around Limpopo and a familiar sight at shopping com-plexes around Vhembe, with seven hit albums under his belt, has switched the mike for the chalk board.

After persistent calls from his loyal fans who wanted to know of his whereabouts and his music, Limpopo Mirror took up the task and traced Mudau and his family to Ennerdale in Gauteng where he is a teacher at Spectrum Primary School. "I apologise profusely to my fans for my disap-pearing act. Everything happened so fast. They should know that I am a teacher by profession

and when the opportunity availed itself, I grabbed it with open arms, and relocated with my family to Gauteng," he said.

Mudau assured all that he was not lost to the music industry but would be coming back with a very hot album soon. "Music is my life.

I am so much attached to it that nothing could take its place. With my hands full

because of my studies and teaching, I have time to rehearse and people would not be disappointed."

Since his arrival in Gauteng, he has performed in different churches around Pretoria and Johannesburg. He can be phoned on 082 509 4259 or 074 5542 886 and he can be e-mailed to: [email protected]

It is once again time for the Zoutpans-berger and very popular calendar photo competition.

The region’s photographers will have until 22 November to submit their entries. This year’s prize money totals R8 400, with 12 winning pictures to be chosen for each of the year’s months. Winning entries will be published in an A2-format 2014 calendar, which will be used by

the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror for marketing purposes. The calendars will also be sold to the public at a minimal fee.

Only high-resolu-tion photos of subjects unique to the Soutpans-berg and surrounding areas will be consid-ered for the competi-tion. Wildlife photos are welcome, although the newspaper group would like to see more entries depicting the region’s cultural heritage, its people and landscape. The competition is lim-

ited to five entries per photographer, which should preferably be submitted in digital format. Cellphone or postcard-size photos will not be considered for the competition.

All entries must clearly indicate who the photographer is, their contact details, where and when the photo was taken and what camera was used. Although technical aspects such as the quality and sharpness of the photo will be taken into account,

the photo should, however, only make for a nice picture. Each of the 12 winning photographs will be bought from the photographer at a price of R700 per photo. Entries can be handed in at the office of the Zoutpansberger at 16B Joubert Street, Louis Trichardt.

Pub lunch (steak, egg & chips) will be available at R49.

Back to school runGogo Tsakani Mulaudzi, known as Makhadzi by soccer followers, is not just an ordinary kit manager. She is the "mother" of the players of Mpheni Home Defenders, a team in the Safa Vhembe MMK Insurance League. She still actively participates in soccer, the game she fell in love with as a young girl. In the early 60s she grew up as an Orlando Pirates fan, only to switch to the Kaizer Chiefs family during the early 70s. She was attracted by the free-flowing football style of Kaizer Chiefs. Her love for soccer made her the number one supporter of the established Mpheni Home Defenders in the middle 80s. She said that she was recruited by the management of the team to be the treasurer in the 90s. She said that she was happy that a product of the team, Luvhengo Mungomeni, was playing for Moroka Swallows. She appealed to other women to help in mentoring young talent and help to keep them off the streets.

An arthritis outpatient, Vho-Andries Lowani (62), who is a resident of Ha-Mandiwana in Nzhelele, received a surprise visit from Pastor Eddy Masakona of the Word of Power Worship Centre in Folovhodwe. Last Thursday, Masakona donated crutches to the man who could hardly walk without the aid of wooden sticks, which he had cut from a mukumba-kumba tree. Pictured with Lowani (centre) are Masakona and Lowani's wife, Vho-Sarah Lowani (71).

It will be another busy weekend for the teams affiliated to the Safa Second Division League. After fail-ing to honour their opening league match two weeks ago, Basel FC are geared to collect the maximum points at the expense of The Dol-phins at the Makwarela Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

According to the manager of Basel, Mr Vhutshilo Makhado, they have assembled a youthful squad that has the potential to upset any of the big guns. On the other hand, the coach of Dolphins, Mr Joel Mongalo, has sent a chilling warning to Basel, saying they will never know what hit them at the end of the game, should they take the Dolphins for granted.

Rospa United will travel to Moko-pane, where they will lock horns

Basel and Dolphins to clash

with Mosesetjane All Stars. It will be the first league match for All Stars. It remains to be seen whether Dynamos will avail themselves for the match against Phungo All Stars at the Nwamitwa ground. Dy-

namos failed to honour their opening league match against Joe’s Express, which was supposed to have been played at the Malamulele Stadium a fortnight ago.

Blue Rocks will entertain Joe’s Express at the Nkowankowa Stadium, while Ray Pillars will play in front of their home crowd. They will host Great North FC at the Seshego Stadi-um. Giyani Hotspurs will undertake a journey to Polokwane to meet Magezi at the Peter Mokaba Athletics Stadi-um. Magezi started the new season with a bang, as they beat Mighty FC 3-1 in their opening match.

Modimolle Aces will host Bellevue Winners, and Winners Park will have a date with Mighty FC at the Mahwel-ereng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Joe’s Express knock Rospa United out of Nedbank Cup KO

Baroka FC shock African Wanderers

Rospa United were booted out of the Nedbank Cup KO Competi-tion in the opening stage of the competition.

They lost 1-3 to Joe’s Express FC at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday. As if they were going to bury their opponents alive, United scored their only goal two minutes into the game. Their playmaker, Ndumeliso Mabule-le, unleashed a close-range rocket that was too hot for the Express keeper, Rotshidzwa Muleka, to handle.

Joe’s Express did not panic, de-spite conceding an early goal. They patiently initiated some promising moves from behind in search of the equaliser. In the 18th minute of play, Rendani Madega received a beautiful pass from Thembisani Nevhulamba and beat the keeper before sending the ball into an empty net.

Takalani Ramagalela of Joe’s Ex-press was reprimanded with a card for dangerous play on Ndumeliso Mabulele. Pressure mounted on the United defence. Their left back, Samuel Mohloa, scored an own goal while trying to clear seven minutes

towards the end of the first half. Joe’s Express were still 2-1 ahead when the proceedings for the first half came to a close.

Ndumeliso Mabulele of Rospa United was warned with a card for assimilation early in the second half. He dived inside the box, but the ref-eree was not convinced that he had been obstructed and he was shown a yellow card as a corrective measure. Joe’s Express increased the tally in the 67th minute. Rendani Madega finished off a rebound, following Thembisani Nevhulamba’s attempt.

Realizing that victory was almost certain, the coach of Express decided to give Rendani Madega a well-de-served rest by replacing him with Nndateni Netshitadi. Rospa United sacrificed their captain, Mashudu Mashapha, for Lufuno Ligugela a little later. Joe’s Express played the last 15 minutes of the game with one man down. Takalani Ramagalela was given his marching orders for a sec-ond bookable offence. Express played defensive football for the remaining part of the game.

After losing their previous two league matches in a row, the NFD League newcomers, Baroka FC, made amends and registered a shocking victory against African Warriors, whom they beat 2-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

Baroka moved a few steps up on the log, follow-ing their impressive results. They are now lying in the 8th spot.

Chippa United were held to a 1-1 draw by the Maluti FET College. Chippa are still in the sec-ond position on the log. Jomo Cosmos stood firm against all odds when they played to a goalless draw with Santos at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

Santos were awarded a penalty, but their slender striker, Steven Solomon, caused an upset by shoot-ing wide. Cosmos did not lose their original fighting spirit, despite the fact that they were reduced to 10 men early in the last half.

The pacesetters, Milano United, continued to pave their way to the Absa Premiership by beating their neighbours, Vasco da Gama, 1-0 at the Parow Park Stadium.

After collecting the maximum points in their pre-vious two matches, Black Leopards fought hard to grab a point against Sivutsa Stars at the Kabokweni Stadium near Nelspruit. The score was 2-2 when the final whistle was blown.

Tough victory for Phungo All StarsBasel FC will not take part in the next stage of the prestigious Nedbank Cup KO competi-tion. They were booted out of the competition by Phungo All Stars 1-0 at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

Basel played entertaining football, despite the fact it was the first time for the players to play an official match together.

They disorganised the opponents by their short passes. When pressure started to mount against them, Basel started to demonstrate their rough skills.

The referee, Mr Martin Sivhada, calmed the situation by reprimanding two of their players, Takalani Netshitungulu and Lavhelesani Singo, with yellow cards in the 14th and 18th minute respectively.

The coach of Phungo All Stars, Mr Moses Muthelo, was forced to effect an early change to his starting line-up. Kamogelo Mogaswa sustained a knee injury and was replaced with Mthokhozisi Masuku. The Stars’ former Rospa

United dribbling wiz-ard, Marks Munyai, was booked for a late tackle on Vhuthuhawe Munyai in the 27th minute.

Khumbudzo Mu-vhango of Stars was also taken off the pitch on a stretcher after sustaining an injury. His was replaced by Stemmer Aphane.

No goal was seen during the first half. The Stars took the game to Basel in the opening minutes of the last stanza. Aphane scored the all-impor-tant goal in the 67th minute. He connect-ed a great pass from Hulisani Mathugana and beat the Basel keeper, Mashudu Ne-makhavhani, with a volley.

Basel replaced Isaac Chauke and Godfrey Mohlala with Nhlamu-lo Mathebula and Alu-wani Nemakhavhani respectively in a bid to strengthen their midfield. That did not change the complex-ion of the game.

Joe’s are Nedbank champsJoe’s Express are the Nedbank Cup Regional champions. They beat Phungo All Stars 2-0 in the fi nal at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday.

Express took advantage of their tall strikers and played high balls from behind to the goal poachers. They managed to frus-trate the opponents with this pattern of play. The Stars’ midfi elders, Hulisani Mathugana and Marks Munyai, were more like spectators in the fi rst half as the balls were going over their heads.

The Stars came close to scoring in the 14th min-ute. Their left-footed striker, Stemmer Aphane, re-ceived a neat pass from Marks Munyai and caused an upset. Instead of taking his time and picking spot, Aphane shot aimlessly from the edge of the box with the Express keeper, Rotshidzwa Muleka, already beaten.

Muleka made his presence felt moments thereaf-ter. He stretched to the limit to execute a brilliant save when everyone thought it was a sure goal. He palmed the ball away for a corner kick. The game was 19 minutes old when Express opened their account. The former Mukula Young Santos bulldozer-striker, Rendani “Zebe” Madega, went loose from the right corner and scored from an awkward angle.

Phumudzo Ramango of All Stars was the fi rst player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Nndateni Netshitadi from behind and the referee was quick to fl ash yellow. Phungo All Stars intro-duced Justice Rasebotse for Solomzi Nyoniyandiza in the 28th minute. The replacement was not good enough to stop Express from scoring their second goal. Thembisani Nevhulamba capitalized on an error in defence and beat the keeper with a volley.

The coach of Express, Mr Edwin “Cafu” Ram-phabana, was forced to replace his team’s captain, Lucas Mashau, early in the last half. Mashau collid-ed head-on with Mthokozisi Masuku and couldn’t continue with the match.

A defender of Joe’s Express, Ndivhuwo Ravhu-hali, handled the ball within his own penalty box.

That prompted the referee to award a penalty to Stars. Justice Rasebotse could not believe his eyes when the Express keeper, Rotshidzwa Muleka, braved the shot and pulled off a great save. Express later replaced their fi rst goal scorer, Rendani Madega, with Rofhiwa Mabila in a bid to solidify their striking force.
