Mosse’s practice resides at the interface between documentary journalism andcontemporary art. For centuries, the Congo has compelled and defied the Westernimagination. Richard Mosse brings to this subject the use of a discontinued militarysurveillance technology, a type of color infrared film called Kodak Aerochrome. Originallydeveloped for camouflage detection, this aerial reconnaissance film registers an invisiblespectrum of infrared light, rendering the green landscape in vivid hues of lavender, crimson, and hot pink.

Franz Haselbeck worked as a professional photographer in Limerick City from 1912and left behind an amazing record of his life as a professional photographer in the city.

Haselbeck photographed many important events in Limerick City at the time. Hisphotographs of the Irish Volunteers and the Royal Irish Constabulary in 1913 and 1914bring to life the city during this turbulent period. His images of major constructionprojects including Mungret Cement Factory and Ranks Mills bring us to the heart ofindustrial Limerick under construction. '

It was almost as if he knew that it would be important to the city to record theseevents... that it was his civic duty'

From his studio on Wolfe Tone Street, Haselbeck captured a permanent image of manyLimerick families from bonny babies to holy communions, weddings and familyportraits.

Patricia Haselbeck Flynn holds responsibility for the preservation of her grandfather'scollection. From January 13th Limerick City Museum and Archives in partnership withPatricia will present a selection of her grandfather’s work.

The panoramic view that you get from standing near Arthurs Quay. It is not often that you findthat amount space and air in an urban surrounding. The emerging landscapes, the 3dimensional perspectives of depths and scale stand out for him. Denis Tricot lives on anestuary, so water is an important aspect of his life, The River Shannon an immediate ‘friend’.Often his sculptures enter a dialogue with water, as the constant movement and the differentcharacters it takes on, are akin to his work, responding to different sites. This is Denis’ ‘Irishpremiere’, and his first impression of the people here was overwhelmingly friendly and warm, they made him feel at home immediately. He is delighted to be able to give something back tothe people of Limerick by presenting his work in their landscape.

46NEW GENERATION

The People of Moyross in association with THEATREclub & the Lime TreeTheatre presents MOYROSS. Is there as much talent in Moyross as there isunder the Hollywood sign? Moyross is famous. Moyross is a brand. Who made itthat way? Today in Moyross, a group of kids built a fort. It’s not known the exactoutcomes but sources at the scene say it’s a grand oul fort indeed. If you’venever been to Moyross, but only read about it in the papers, you would have avery different idea of what kind of place it is. We want to bring you there, to thereal Moyross. This is our side of the story.

MOYROSS will show you the difference between the people’s lives and theheadlines. This is our story told in our own words. We are sick of being draggedthrough the papers and we’re not going to take it anymore. We are going to befamous for who we really are. We are taking to the stage and we are going toown it. This is our story, told in our own words. This is our right of reply. Thegood, the bad and the truth. The show is being put together and provoked byaward winning social justice performance collective THEATREclub (HEROIN,The Family & HISTORY)

Featuring a massive community cast of the very young and the old, breakthrough theatrical technology, musical innovation and eh... maybe ahorse... this is a night at the theatre you won’t forget in a hurry. We’re going toMoyross. Are you coming?

Moyross is the biggest housing estate in the UK & Ireland. Built in the early1970s, no social infrastructure was provided by the state. The people ofMoyross had to fight for everything that is there. Moyross has been the subjectof pejorative discussion within the public arena for some time now. The mediacontinues with it’s themes of denigration and patronisation with regards tothese so-called areas of social disadvantage, and it is time to challenge thesenorms, and give people a real voice in how their story is told in the public arena.

Rodion Shchedrin’s best known work Carmen Suite After Bizet was written for his wife,Bolshoi dancer, Maya Plisetskaya. This popular suite is a fantastic mix of all the familiartunes, dressed up in a way Bizet could never have imagined. The big melodies are instantlyrecognisable and the dramatic power of the score is complimented by Shchredin’sintervention. Gábor Tákacs-Nagy brings the entire Suite together to great aplomb.

Against the backdrop of this fabulous score, this scorching story unleashes the creativetalents of Ballet Ireland’s choreographer in residence, Morgann Runacre-Temple.

Carmen follows the story of a young, naïve soldier Jose, bewitched by the beautiful andfiery gypsy, Carmen. Obsessed and reckless, Jose turns his back on respectability to bewith her. But Carmen, like love, cannot be tamed and Jose’s desire to possess her will

to include the spaces on Thomas street also and became TomCat – Festival of theCurious Mind. Taking place during the June Bank holiday weekend, 30th May to 2nd ofJune, the project is aimed to encourage art in an urban space and make Limerick city

The work will be selected to match with the various venues to create a dialoguebetween the artist, the public and the businesses of both Thomas and Catherine street.

The spaces range from shops, public houses, and the street itself. We will focus onideas that comprise engagement of the audience and the theme of Curiosity.

The call is open to both established and emerging artists.
