Black widow – Iggy Azalea

Liiar analysis

LanguageThe language that is used in the music video it is not about the words but about the visuals. The narrative of the video is done very well. I think this because the storyline is easy to follow and it goes will with the song. They want me to take that the woman in the songs has been hurt by this man and he wanted to go but she wanted her revenge and to kill him and this is shown very well in the visuals of the video and also through the words of the song. The pace of the song is very quick there are a lot of cuts but the actual song isn’t as fast paced but they still go well together. The mise-en-scene in the video goes well with the song and what the message they are trying to portray in the lyrics about the spider and what it represents. The camera work used and slow and panning. With the costumes that the woman are wearing it emphasizes the curves of the females bodies. The genre of the video is horror and action because there are lots of dark shots what are related to the horror genre but with the fighting scenes and the weapons it gives off a action genre to it as well.

Institution

The main artist in the video is signed to Mercury Records, grand hustle records and def jam recordings. The featuring artist is signed to Roc Nation so two different labels are working together. The director of the music video was Tim Blacksmith he as worked with Jessie J and Rhianna.

Ideology

The values and beliefs of this the music video are they want to see women who are been treat wrong and that they should stand up and be strong and independent. They want the music video to be précised as women how can take down the bad guy what has treated them bad. Throughout the music video the costumes the women are wearing to could be seen a sexy and the theorist Laura Mulvey argues that the dominant point of view is masculine. The female body is displayed for the male gaze in order to provide erotic pleasure for the male. Women are objectified by the camera lens with the way the camera moves up and down there bodies with the costumes they are wearing.

Audience

The audience for this music video is for teenagers and above this is because they are the people what listen to music the most and with the singer who are in the video like Rita ora and Iggy azalea are seen as sexualised with the costumes they are wearing in the video and how much they are showing. They do this because it appeals more to teenagers but doing this might not appeal to a larger audience because some people might précised it as being sexist. Also the audience could be people who like a good storyline when they are watching a music video because it keeps them more interested.

Representation

The artist in this music video are represented as sexy and independent that they can stand up for them selves they show this by the costumes and make up they are wearing and also the lyrics in the song. They are represented as sexualised as this well help it sell because sex sells. It shows the audience that they are representing themselves as wanting to create a good music video for there target audience to watch.

Say you like me

We the kings

LanguageThe language that is used in the music video it is not about the words but about the visuals. The video is set up as a game like visual this make it feel like you are playing a game when you are watching the video. The story line is easy to follow because it is just a bad trying to save a girl from the bad guys and then they get the girl. The theory of Kate Domaille she says that movie have only 7 narratives and videos can take up the conventions of this for example one of her narratives is the Romeo and Juliet this is the love story where boy and girl fall in love. In the video there was also elements of live performance and lip syncing throughout the video. The style of the video keeps you interested and makes you want to keep watching to see what is going to happen. There was good editing because they edited to the beat of the song and good camera angles for example there was some long shot and high angle shots.

Institution

When we the kings made this song there where signed to s-curve records but know have gained and lost some members and are now signed to Ozone Entertainment. S-Curve Records was founded in 2000 by former Mercury Records executive Steve Greenberg. It is based in New York City. In 2001 the label established a distribution and licensing agreement with EMI Records. Among the hits released by S-Curve between 2000-2004 were "Who Let The Dogs Out" by Baha Men and "Stacy's Mom" by Fountains of Wayne.

Ideology

The values and beliefs of this the music video are that they want the good guy to the girl and not let the bad guy get away with her. Another message and value the video could be giving is that it is not always easy to get the girl and you will have to go through some challenges to get her but it will all be worth it in the end. The narrative fits well with the live performance going back and forth between them showing who the band is and that it is a music video.

Audience

The target audience for this music video are people who like pop punk, alternative rock bands mainly because this is the main genre of the songs that they have realised. The age range would be about 16-30 year olds this is because teens and young adults are the ones what listen to music the most. The music video is mainly aimed at teenagers and fans though, so the live performance keeps them interested as they will be bothered about seeing the artist they enjoy seeing. This will keep the target audience want to come back and watch future videos that the artist will release and they know it is something they will like.

Representation

The song wants to be represented as kind of a video games this creates an new and fun way to show a music video and this is what will make people want to watch it. Also it follows the narrative of love story and has elements of live performance in it this is showing who the band are.

Don’t – Ed Sheeran

Language

The narrative of the video is very good because it is about a man what goes up in life throughout the video because he start off on a mattress outside with no shirt on. Then he goes into a shack house and get a vest top and some shoes. Then the video carries on and he goes into a better house and get a shirt and some better shoes. This is him gradually going up in life then it goes to him in a big mansion and he goes up stairs and puts on a suit and fancy shoes. The video ends up with him in the pool with he shirt off again showing where it started from and I think this is what happens with the food starts off with the kid not eating some crap food playing with it then it goes to pizza and when he is in the mansion he is sat in front of a massive meal.

Institution

He is signed to Atlantic records, Elektra records and Asylum records. Other artist with these record labels are Cee low green, New Boyz and Rudimental.

Ideology

The values and beliefs of the music video is that even if you start with nothing you can become something. I think the music video will give people inspiration to do something within there lives. There is no live performance so it doesn’t break up the narrative. I think the video is good at showing what people can become and has a positive aspect on the people that watch it.

Audience

I think the target audience are young adults and teenagers mainly because these are the people what listen to this type of music the most and who in a whole listen to music all together. People who are a fan of Ed Sheeran and the type of genre the music is and they want the target audience to come back and watch future videos the artist has to release. People who are fans of a good narrative in music video.

Representation

The artist wants to be represented as a person what didn’t start with much but has come up and made something of himself. It could be showing he story of how it was for him to become a singer. The lyrics might suggests that it is represent a relationship he had some time ago.
