 Job Description:

Intern will engage in program development activities withBroadmoor’s Keller Library committee and with local agencies todesign targeted programming to specific Broadmoor groups. Thegoal is to develop a development plan that can be implemented oncethe library renovation is completed (winter 2009), so that diverseservices can be provided immediately on renovation completion.

Context: The BDC raised over $2,000,000 from private foundationsto convert the Rosa F. Keller Library into the Rosa. F. Keller Library and Community Center. The Broadmoor community’s vision is toprovide far more than library services out of the new facility. Thisintern will work with Catholic Charities, the YMCA, Jewish Family Services, and other local non-profits to design new programs thatmeet the needs of the Broadmoor community. For example, new programming will certainly include GED classes, literacy training,

computer training for children and the elderly, yoga classes, movienights, etc. This intern will work with the Broadmoor library committee to identify the services the residents want, find the localproviders who provide those services, interest them in providing them in Broadmoor, and then to develop an implementationschedule that speaks in detail about how and when these programscan be developed once the new facility is done in the winter of 2009. This intern will not serve as a librarian and potential interns shouldnot see this as a library position. It is a program developmentposition that is associated with a library and community center.

Overview of Responsibility:

-  Interview Broadmoor residents and area service providers to create aimplementation plan that details what services will be provided by whomand when once the Keller Library and Community Center renovation iscomplete.

-  Final work project to include a detailed report of what service providersare committed to producing what services at Keller once the library isoperational.

-  Intern to identify Broadmoor wants and needs and identify serviceproviders who can meet those needs.

Intern to develop relationships with those providers on Broadmoor’sbehalf and secure their commitment to work in Broadmoor once theLibrary is operational.

-  Intern must be very comfortable working with people.Requirements:

-  Intern must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.-  Past program development experience helpful, but we expect to have to

teach you how to do this if you are a highly motivated, self-directed,responsible person with a track record of successful achievements.

-  Intern must be able to work alone and with team members.-  Intern must be able to think, work, and function independently.

-  Intern must be entering junior or senior year in college.

-  Intern must have access to a car or bike for transportation.

-  Intern must have a laptop or computer.

-  Intern must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week).

-  Intern must possess a sense of humor and compassion.
