The program record for run-rule victories is 12, set in 1997.- The Lady Flames’ 14 shutouts this season are their most since a program-record 20 shutouts in 1999, and tied with the 1997 Liberty team for second most in program history.- Liberty has tied the 2016 team for the most conference wins in program history.- Liberty’s 35 wins are its most since going 39-18 in 2010. The program record for single-season wins is 41, set in 1999 (41-25) and 2006 (41-23).- The Lady Flames have set a program record with 10 double-digit scoring games in 2017.- With 292 runs scored this year, Liberty is eight runs shy of the program record of 300, set in 2010.- Liberty went on a program-record 13-game winning streak, from April 2 through 18. That streak, which included three wins over both Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb, two each over Campbell, Hampton and Virginia, and one victory over Virginia Tech, saw Liberty outscore opponents, 80-6, while tossing nine shutouts. A Stadium You Need to Visit Liberty Softball Stadium was listed by NCAA.com in its recent article, “College Soft-ball: 7 Stadiums You Need to Visit.” Liberty is the only school to have both its baseball and softball stadiums recognized by NCAA.com last week.

Liberty Softball Stadium Named No. 6 College Softball Stadium Through a fan vote conducted by FloSoftball.com, Liberty Softball Stadium was voted the sixth best college softball stadium in the nation in 2017. Louisiana Lafayette’s Lamson Park was voted No. 1. Last year, Liberty Softball Stadium appeared second on the list, trailing only LSU’s Tiger Park.

Stadium Dedication Liberty officially dedicated its new facility prior to the Lady Flames’ doubleheader against Presbyterian on April 3, 2015. A pregame ceremony took place, as former Liberty head coach Paul Wetmore provided the invocation. Liberty President Jerry Falwell, along with current head coach Dot Richardson, threw out the ceremonial first pitches. Becki Falwell and Liberty Director of Athletics Jeff Barber were also a part of the ceremony. The highlight of the pre-game ceremony was the announcement of naming rights of the field, which will now be called Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. Dwayne Kamphuis, a financial supporter of Liberty University and the softball pro-gram, is a legendary fast pitch softball pitcher. Kamphuis traveled the world playing in exhibition softball games as part of the renowned “King and His Court” team, headed up by Eddie “The King” Feigner.

Opening Games Liberty posted a 3-2 record at the Liberty Softball Classic, March 19-21, 2015. The Lady Flames opened their new Liberty Softball Stadium with a 9-2 win over Rider on March 19, and picked up wins over Princeton and Quinnipiac as well.

Firsts for All During the first game in Liberty Softball Stadium history, March 19, 2015 against Rider, Megan Robinson recorded the first hit, Madison Kotchey the first double and RBI, Mickey Loveridge the first triple, Tori Zavodny the first stolen base and home run and Chandler Ball the first pitch, strikeout and first victory. Extra, Extra Liberty downed Coastal Carolina, 5-4 in 10 innings on April 18, 2015 the first extra-inning game in Liberty Softball Stadium history. The Lady Flames are 3-2 in extra-inning contests at Liberty Softball Stadium.

Lights, Camera, Action The new stadium is equipped with the latest technology, making it ready for televi-sion broadcasts. A majority of Liberty’s home games are scheduled to air either as full TV broadcasts and/or as live video webstreams. With home and visting radio booths avail-able, most home games will air on 90.9 FM The Light as well.

Bring on the Awards Liberty received a conference-record 17 postseason awards on Tuesday, including four players each on the Big South All-Conference first team, second team and all-fresh-man team. The Lady Flames had four major awards as well. Dot Richardson was named Big South Coach of the Year for the first time. She is the first Liberty coach to receive the award since Paul Wetmore in 2000. Julia DiMartino becomes the second Big South Pitcher of the Year in program history, joining Tiffani Smith (2010). Amber Bishop is the fifth Liberty player to be voted Big South Freshman of the Year, and first since current teammate Alexia Taylor in 2015. Kenzie Friesen is the second Big South Scholar-Athlete in program history, joining Megan Robinson (2015). First-team selection Tori Zavodny is the seventh player in program history to receive three all-conference honors, and first since her older sister, Katie (2012-14). DiMartino is just the second player in program history to earn all-conference first team honors as both a freshman and a sophomore, joining Stacy Radulovich (1996-97). The Bishop twins, Amber and Autumn, are the second and third Liberty position play-ers to be named first team all-conference as freshmen, joining Radulovich (1996). DiMartino and Friesen are the second pair of Liberty pitchers to be named to the All-Big South team in the same year, after Tiffani Smith and Kat Johnson in 2010.

Run Producers Amber Bishop leads the team with 52 RBI, followed by Sarah Robertson’s 40. The last time two Lady Flames had 40+ RBI in the same season was 2007, when Jessica Moore had 54 RBI and Dawn Jeffs drove in 47 runs.

Blazing the Basepaths In their first three years under the direction of Dot Richardson, Liberty averaged 85 stolen bases per year. With 82 steals this season, Liberty needs 12 more stolen bases to break the program single-season record of 93, set in 1996.

What a Blast! Amber Bishop hit a game-winning home run in the seventh inning during an April 2 series finale at Campbell. With the Lady Flames trailing, 3-2, she hit a two-out, two-run homer which gave Liberty a 4-3 victory and 2-1 series win over the Camels.

Walk (Off) This Way Current Lady Flames Cassie Gingerich (April 18, 2015 vs. Coastal Carolina), Deidra See (April 23, 2016 vs. CSU), Emily Sweat (March 25, 2017 vs. Radford) and Jasmeen Click (April 26, 2017 vs. Longwood) all have recorded a walk-off hit in their career.

First Things First During the season opener against Chattanooga, Feb. 10, Amber Bishop hit a double in her first collegiate at bat, while Kayla Harris singled in her first at bat. They are the first Lady Flames since Kelby Allen in 2012 to record a hit in their first collegiate at bat.

Family Matters Freshmen Amber and Autumn Bishop are twin sisters. They are the first sisters to play for the Liberty softball team during the same year since Claire and Michelle Fridey in 2007. Sophomore pitcher Chase Cassady, last season’s opening-day starter in the circle, is the younger sister of current Liberty assistant coach Paige Cassady. Their father, John Cassady, is on staff as a volunteer assistant coach. Sophomore pitcher Julia DiMartino was named the 2017 Big South Pitcher of the Year. Her older sister, Alyssa DiMartino, pitched for the Lady Flames from 2011-14, serv-ing as Liberty’s opening-game starter in both 2012 and 2014. Junior outfielder Tori Zavodny, a three-time all-conference outfielder, is the younger sister of Katie Zavodny, who was a 2013 NFCA All-Region outfielder and holds Liberty’s records for career and single-season stolen bases. Junior Madi Clarke’s father, David Clarke, played baseball at Liberty from 1986-1989. In fact, David Clarke played his home games at Worthington Stadium, the same site where Liberty Softball Stadium now sits.

Liberty in the Big South Softball Championship By the Numbers0 - Tiffani Smith pitched a no-hitter against host Winthrop, May 13, 2011, Liberty’s first no-hitter ever in conference tourna-ment play.

1 - The Lady Flames earned the No. 1 seed in the Big South Championship in 2000, 2007 and 2017 by virtue of winning the conference regular-season title in each of those seasons. Liberty is 2-4 all-time in conference tournament play as the No. 1 seed, as the 2000 Lady Flames made it to the Big South final, losing twice to Coastal Carolina.

2 - Liberty won its second Big South Softball Championship title in 2011, competing as the No. 2 seed.

2a - Two current Liberty players have sisters who competed on Liberty’s last Big South Championship-winning team in 2011. Tori Zavodny’s older sister, Katie, and Julia DiMartino’s older sister, Alyssa, were both freshmen in 2011.

3 - Three Lady Flames, all pitchers, have earned Big South Tournament MVP honors. Katie Phillips was named Co-MVP in 1998, while Ali Thompson and Tiffani Smith won in 2002 and 2011, respectively.

4 - Combined runs scored by Liberty in its two championship-winning games. The Lady Flames won the title, 1-0 over Winthrop, on May 12, 2002, and downed Radford, 3-1, in the final on May 14, 2011.

4a - Liberty has hit four grand slams all-time in Big South Softball Championship play, including one each in 2014 (Grace Nordan) and 2015 (Madison Kotchey). Dawn Jeffs (2006) and Lauren Hahn (2002) are the other two to do so.

5 - Liberty won the 2002 Big South Softball Championship title as the No. 5 seed.

6 - Liberty has made six appearances in the Big South Softball Championship final round, winning the title in 2002 and 2011 while taking second place in 1998, 2000, 2008 and 2009.

7 - Total number of runs allowed in five games by the Lady Flames during 2011 Big South Softball Championship. Only four of those runs were earned, good for a 0.80 ERA. Liberty also allowed only four earned runs during its conference tournament championship run in 2002, posting a 1.29 team ERA.

8 - Liberty’s 10-2, five-inning win over Coastal Carolina, April 22, 1995, is the only postseason eight-run-rule win in pro-gram history.

9 - Julia DiMartino’s four-hit shutout of Presbyterian on May 11, 2016, was Liberty’s ninth in conference tournament play.

2016 Conference Tournament Rewind Liberty has gone 1-2 in the Big South Softball Championship each of the last four years. The No. 3 seed, Liberty shut out Presbyterian, 4-0, in game one last year. Julia DiMartino struck out 12 while allowing just two hits, while Tori Zavodny went 2-for-3 with a double, one stolen base and two RBI. The Lady Flames then fell to Coastal Carolina, 8-0, in five innings, being no-hit by Coastal’s Ashley Guillette. Later that afternoon, Radford eliminated Liberty, 2-1. Jaclyn Amader went 2-for-3 in that game. Liberty batted just .154 as a team at the 2016 Big South Softball Championship, scoring five total runs in three games. Championship Memories Rock Hill, S.C., has hosted both of Liberty’s Big South Softball Championship titles to date. Liberty made a stunning run through the 2002 Big South Softball Championship, posting four straight upset victories, including a 1-0 win over host Winthrop in the final game. The team fashioned a 1.29 ERA during the four-game event. Pitcher Ali Thompson was named the 2002 Big South Tournament MVP after recording two victories and a save. Fel-low pitcher Jennifer Hurley went 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA. Lauren Hahn batted .417 with two homers and five RBIs, and was one of four Lady Flames to appear on the All-Tournament team (also Thompson, Hurley and Amanda Goc). Liberty entered the 2011 Big South Softball Championship in Rock Hill, S.C., as the No. 2 seed. After falling to host Winthrop in the opening round, the Lady Flames won four straight games, capped by a 3-1 win over top-seeded Radford in the final, to claim its first title since 2002. That year was the first of a six-year span where the Big South championship round was a single-game final. The Lady Flames posted a 0.80 team ERA during the 2011 tournament, earning a pair of shutouts. Tiffani Smith earned Tournament MVP honors after throwing a no-hitter against host Winthrop, May 13.
