Media Concepts
L.O: understand and apply LIAR to examples
LIAR
Language: Codes and conventions NOT JUST WORDS ; Magazines follow
these rules of print: images, font , costing , colour , layout. Tv follows
the rules of moving images: camera shots and movements , sound ,
graphics , genre , narrative. Narrative: Story structure.
Institution: Who makes the media. It can be a large company like warner
bros or a small company like Working Title.
Audience: People who listen , watch , read or use media. Audiences can
be grouped together by gender , age , how much they earn , what they
like , ect. Institutions work hard to make their text appeal to the right
audience.
Representation: The way REAL LIFE is presented in the media. Groups of
people are represented in a certain light so that people begin to believe
all people in that group are like that – stereotyping. Places , gender ,
social class , ect can also be represented.

adults , mainly boys.
