IMPROVING ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS (IEA)The Level 2 Award in Industrial Environment Awareness has been developed to support the level 2 mandatory unit knowledge requirements of Performing Engineering Operations, Performing Manufacturing Operations and Marine Engineering. It is for learners who are undertaking the industrial applications framework to develop in the key areas identified within the unit titles. It was developed to fill a gap in the market for a qualification supporting the need for a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) to support the delivery of the underpinning knowledge requirements of the mandatory units from NVQs in Performing Engineering Operations, Performing Manufacturing Operations and Marine Engineering at level 2. This VRQ has been developed for those learners who are undertaking the Industrial Applications framework to support development in the key areas identified within the unit titles. This VRQ is also a recognised technical certificate within the Industrial Applications Apprentice Framework.

EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES (ERR)Study guide to complete for new entrants into the Science, Engineering and Manufacturing sections.

PERSONAL LEARNING AND THINKING SKILLS (PLTS)PLTS provides a framework for describing the qualities and skills needed for success in learning and life in general. The framework comprises six groups of skills that are essential to success in learning, life and work. The framework also captures the essential skills of self-management, managing relationships with others and managing own learning, performance and work. Each group has a focus statement which sums up the range of skills and qualities involved. The focus statement is accompanied by a set of outcome statements that describe the relevant skills, behaviours and personal qualities.

20% OFF THE JOB TRAININGDetail of how the 20% off-job-training will be met: The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), on behalf of the government, have incorporated into the Apprenticeship funding rules a requirement that all Apprentices must have at least 20% of their Apprenticeship as “off the job training”. The reason for this is to ensure that a quality programme is delivered by the employer and the training provider, which adds value to the Apprenticeship. This will benefit not only the learner, but also the employer, who will then end up with a skilled, well-rounded employee by the end of the Apprenticeship. Off the Job Training (OJT) can include training that is delivered at the Apprentice’s normal place of work, but must not be delivered as part of their normal working duties. Training towards Functional Skills in maths and English is not allowed to count towards the 20%.
