Doug Smith will enter his third year as men’s golf coach at Le-Tourneau University in 2011-12.

Smith, currently the golf pro at The Challenge at Oak Forest, was a four-year lettermen golfer at the Uni-versity of Nebraska, in which he was the third Cornhusker to achieve as many letters in golf during a colle-giate career. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Adminis-tration from the University of Nebras-ka, before officially turning pro.

He was the 1978 Nebraska State Match Play Champi-on and turned professional in August of that same year. In 1983, Smith was the Metro-Chapter Assistant’s Champion in the Northern Texas PGA.

Smith is no stranger to the golf courses in Texas. He was an Assistant Golf Professional at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas, Texas, before becoming the Director of Golf at The Club at Mission Dorado in Odessa, Texas. He also served as Head Golf Professional at Las Colinas Country Club and King’s Creek Golf Club.

Smith, who will continue to work as the golf profession-al at The Challenge at Oak Forest, is married to wife, Linda and has one daughter, Chessie. He is also the grandfather of Bonnie, Katherine, David and Camryn.

Lauren Gentry begins her fourth season as the head women’s golf coach at LeTourneau.

Gentry, a Breckenridge, Texas na-tive, played on the state champion-ship 3A women’s golf team at Breck-enridge High School and finished in sixth place individually. While at UMHB, she was a three-time all-American Southwest Conference honoree and played on four confer-ence championship teams. Her UMHB team finished as the NCAA Division III Runner-Ups, three times and finished in fourth place, once during her career. Gentry graduated from UMHB with a degree in sociology and a minor in business administration in 2004. After gradu-ation, she began work as the Assistant Director of Recruit-ing at UMHB and served in that capacity until accepting the LeTourneau position.

In the 2009-10 season, Gentry coached Leslie Lee to the NCAA Division III National Championships as the individual finished sixth nationally, while earning Honorable Mention All-American Honors. Lee returned to the national champi-onship in 2011.

Gentry’s husband Aaron is an assistant coach with the LeTourneau baseball team. They welcomed their first child into the world – son Brooks – in October.

2010 – LeTourneau University’s Les-lie Lee shot a final round 8-over-par 81 to finish the NCAA Division III Wom-en’s Golf Championships eighth Friday at the Mission Golf and Tennis Resort.

The junior golfer began the final round on the back nine and started with a birdie before bogeying 11 and finishing the three holes with a par on 12 to remain even for the day. She parred 13, but had back-to-back bo-geys to fall to 2 over for the round. Lee ended the back nine with two straight pars and a bogey to go to 3 over for the day and sat in seventh as she headed to the final nine holes of the tournament six back of the leader.

Lee, who finished the tournament with 34 pars and eight birdies, began the final nine holes on the front side and parred back-to-back holes before bogeying No. 3 to fall to 4 over for the day, but remained in seventh. On the next three holes, Lee parred 4, but double-bogeyed 5, before sinking a par on 6 to go to 6 over. Lee complet-ed the round with a par, sandwiched in between a pair of bogeys to end the

day at 8-over-par 81 and finished her very first NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship at 29-over-par 321.

Jessica Urban (Wisconsin-Stevens Point) won the tournament with a 313 as Paige Caldwell (Methodist Univer-sity) took second with a 314.

Alana Swain (Methodist Univer-sity) and Natalie Matuszak (St. Mary’s College), who opened the day in the

top spot, finished tied for third with 315s. Stephanie Mingos (Rhodes Col-lege) and Katie Schenfeld (Gustavus Adolphus) was tied for fifth with 316s, while Emily Bachert (Centre College) took seventh with a 319.

Lee garnered two top awards dur-ing the four-day tournament as she re-ceived All-American Honorable Men-tion and All-Region honors.

2011 – LeTourneau senior Leslie Lee wrapped up her standout colle-giate career with a final card of 84-89-94–267 on Friday at the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship at the par-73 El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort.

Lee (Longview, Texas/Spring Hill) was just one of six individuals invited to the national event. She finished in the top 75 of the 100-plus field. Lee was making her second consecutive appearance at the national event after an eight-place finish in 2010.

In Lee’s four-year career, she won two ASC individual titles (2009-10) as well as a runner-up finish (2011) and a third-place finish (2008). Lee was a four-time ASC first-team all-conference golfer.

“I never thought I would play col-legiate golf when I was younger, but it was a great experience and taught me

many lessons I’ll never forget,” Lee said. “I’m thankful every day for the oppor-tunities I had to meet people from all over the country and enjoy some beau-tiful courses.”

Lee had an ASC-best scoring average of 79.9 this year and was never higher than 84.56 over four seasons.

Lee’s senior season was capped by being named to the All-Division III West Region team by the National Golf Coaches Association. She was joined on the team by two other ASC players.

In addition to being named an all-region selection, Lee garnered NGCA All-America Honorable Mention.
