THE DALE WARLAND SINGERSFounded in 1972, The Dale Warland Singers has become the nation's premierprofessional choral ensemble. A Twin Cities treasure, the Singers have achievedan international reputation for excellence, earned through an extensive scheduleof local concerts, tours, broadcasts and recordings. The accomplishments of thegroup have brought its members before audiences throughout North America andEurope.The Singers will perform in Europe for the third time in just 12 years in August1990, when they will travel to Sweden, Estonia and Finland as the only UnitedStates representative at the Second World Symposium on Choral Music. Inaddition to the Singers, some of the world's most prestigious choral groups andconductors will also attend, including Robert Shaw, Eric Ericson, and choirs fromthe Soviet Union, Latin America and Africa.Noted for their vast repertoire of a cappella music, the Singers inspire audienceswith programs ranging from the great choral classics to American folk songs andchoral jazz. In addition, the ensemble has achieved great acclaim for its specialommitment to new music. Since he began the group 17 years ago, Dr. Warland

has led the ensemble in over 400 twentieth-eentury works.The Dale Warland Singers perform an annual subscription series in the Twin Cities(ending this year on May 23 at Orchestra Hall with Dave Brubeck) and tourextensively throughout the Upper Midwest and to other parts of the U.S. Theensemble can be heard on 14 recordings and frequently appears on AmericanPublic Radio's "St. Paul Sunday Morning." Dr. Warland and the Singers have alsocollaborated with a veritable "Who's Who" of music, including Robert Shaw,Neville Marriner, Dave Brubeck, Leonard Slatkin, Eric Ericson and Edo de Waart.

Since his student days as conductor ofthe St. Olaf College Viking Chorus,Dale Warland has devoted his profes-sionallife to attaining the highest musi-cal level in choral singing. Consum-mate musicianship and lofty goals havebeen Dr. Warland's tools in building oneof the finest choral groups in the world:The Dale Warland Singers. UnderWarland's leadership, the Singers havethrilled choral music lovers not just intheir Twin Cities home base, butthroughout North America and Europe.In addition to his busy schedule asmusic director of the Singers, Dale is indemand as a guest conductor, lecturer, r---------------,composer and arranger. He has con-ducted such prestigious groups as theSwedish Radio Choir, Danish RadioChoir, Oregon Bach Festival Chorus,and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.Warland and the Singers have alsocollaborated with the Stuttgart andFrankfurt Radio Orchestras, MinnesotaOrchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orches-tra, George Shearing, DominickArgento, and many other renownedartists.A tenured professor at Macalester Col-lege in St. Paul since 1967, Daleresigned his position in 1986 to devotehis full energies to The Dale WarlandSingers.
