Transcript of Lesson 5-3
Ohio Content Standards:
Describe and apply the properties of similar and
congruent figures; and justify conjectures involving
similarity and congruence.
Ohio Content Standards:
Make and test conjectures about characteristics and properties (e.g., sides, angles, symmetry) of two-dimensional figures and
three-dimensional objects.
Ohio Content Standards:
Draw and construct representations of two- and
three-dimensional geometric objects using a variety of
tools, such as straightedge, compass and technology.
Ohio Content Standards:
Perform reflections and rotations using compass and straightedge constructions
and dynamic geometry software.
Ohio Content Standards:
Represent and model transformations in a
coordinate plane and describe the results.
Ohio Content Standards:
Draw the results of translations, reflections, rotations and dilations of objects in the
coordinate plane, and determine properties that remain fixed;
e.g., lengths of sides remain the same under translations.
Ohio Content Standards:
Show and describe the results of combinations of translations,
reflections and rotations (compositions); e.g., perform
compositions and specify the result of a composition as the outcome of a
single motion, when applicable.
Translation
When a figure is slid from one position to another
without turning it.
Translations are sometimes called “slidesslides””.
Reflection
When a figure is flipped over a line. The new figure is the
mirror image of the original.
ReflectionWhen a figure is flipped over a
line. The new figure is the mirror image of the original.
Reflections are sometimes called ““flipsflips””.
Rotation
When a figure is turned around a fixed point.
Rotations are sometimes called ““turnsturns””.
Identify each motion Identify each motion as a translation, as a translation,
reflection, or rotation.reflection, or rotation.
Identify each motion Identify each motion as a translation, as a translation,
reflection, or rotation.reflection, or rotation.
