Introduction 3

What is personal intelligence?

The world offers many rewards to individuals who understand themselves and otherpeople – or so we have been told. Personal intelligence is important at both theindividual and societal levels. At an individual level, it explains the reasoning we use tounderstand ourselves and other people and helps to mitigate our ‘blind spots’ –matters we don’t know about ourselves and others. Improving our understanding ofourselves and other people is likely to lead to our enhanced well-being and tosmoother relationships with others.
