Get ready for top class music when Rusteloos in Rustenburg rocks the foundations of the Rustenburg Golf Club on Saturday.

This music festival – held in aid of the Help-Net Foundation – has everyone excited for what promises to be a day fi lled with food stalls, beer tents, 7de Laan and Pad na Jou Hart actors and of course, a musical extravaganza of note. Rusteloos in Rustenburg promises to thrill and entertain the whole family as some of the biggest stars in the South African music industry pull together and do what they do best – all in the name of charity. Ivan Botha and Donnalee Roberts from 7de Laan fame have been chosen to be the very competent masters of ceremony for the festival, and the cast of actors from the proudly South African movie, Pad na Jou Hart, will all be at the show. There will also be an autograph signing opportunity with these stars, and the chance to take a ”selfi e” or two with some of your favourite actors. The show starts at 14:00 and ends at 21:00. Ticket prices are R120 for adults, R80 for high school pupils and R50 for primary school pupils.“As the hub of the Northwest Province mining community, we have witnessed how the people of Rustenburg have taken some strain this year,” says Jaco Meintjies, Director of Help-Net.“But how awesome is it going to be to kick off our shoes and relax while being entertained by a stunning line-up of some of our country’s fi nest while enjoying some scrumptious food and something cold.” Artists set to appear include multi-award winning songstress Juanita Du Plessis, Liefl ing star Willem Botha,

SAMA nominated artist Charlize Berg, singers of the hit song Liefde Soldaat ADAM, double SAMA nominee Jakkie Louw, and Monique – the songbird behind SA hit Pienk Champagne. As the benefi ciary of the event, the Help-Net Foundation will be able to make several changes at a community level with the money donated from the proceeds of ticket sales. Caring for the community – and giving back – is at the heart of the event and it is safe to say that the artists are just as excited as Help-Net to give back to those who are less fortunate. “We are beyond excited to be a part of this event, and humbled that we have been given the opportunity to pay it forward,” Meintjies added. “We’d like to make one fi nal call to the community of Rustenburg and outlying areas to purchase their tickets. We’d hate for anyone to miss out,” he explained.

PLATINUM PEOPLEWith many companies involved in the production and selling of building materials, it takes an extraordinary amount of effort, zeal and knowhow to make an impression in this industry.

Marshall Kambarami – who is involved in the running of Reliance Aluminium & Glassworks – has made signifi cant progress in creating a name for himself in this industry to such an extent that his company is now competing very well against the other established names in the business. To the 37-year-old Kambarami, who has been involved in this industry since 1998, doing well in the manufacturing of building materials has a lot to do with a passion for your work as well as a strong desire to make the customer happy. Reliance Aluminium & Glassworks is involved in manufacturing and delivering aluminium folding doors, garage doors, windows, sliding doors, sliding gates and other glass materials. “It takes very hard work to create a name for your company in this industry. We are getting there slowly. We have come a long way but we have some indications that people, particularly the customers, are happy with the way that we are doing things and this is very encouraging to us,” Marshal said. “We always strive to give the best service to our clients so that they continue with us. For us, it is very important to live up to the expectations of the client because they are the people that matter the most in a business,” he added. “People usually phone in with their specifi cations and It is up to us to deliver. Normally if we do our work well we get referred to other clients and this is how the name of the company grows and gets established. “It also means that if you fail to do the work properly then you will not become popular and the chances

of creating a wider client base are affected,” he added. The company was formed just over two years ago but has managed to go into a number of areas such as Rustenburg, Brits, Mogwase, Moruleng, Northam, Thabazimbi, Ledig and Sun City. Marshal revealed that his aim is to venture into other areas outside building and construction – in the very near future. “Once we establish ourselves fi rmly, the aim is to venture into the transport sector. This is one industry that we would like to explore because I believe we have the potential to do well in this area as well.” While business has been brisk, Marshal admits that things got a bit tough during the historic, fi ve month long strike in the mining sector of Rustenburg.

“During the strikes, we did not get a lot of business. It was tough but we kept on pushing and things got easier as the strike was nearing its end. “It is times such as these that really teach you survival skills. You have to fi nd ways of remaining viable in the industry. You must be creative and responsive to the needs of the customers.” But what are some of the challenges that the company has faced since it was established? “There are various challenges that we face but the major one is related to our operations,” Marshall said. “Most of the things we use come from Johannesburg and Pretoria. This means that when the materials are not ready, then we are not able to create business for ourselves. Sometimes it gets very hectic so one has to get used to the environment. It is something that you learn to cope with,” he added. Reliance Aluminium & Glassworks creates employment for about 12 people – playing a key part in developing Rustenburg’s economy.

POLICY TALK: Madibeng executi ve Mayor, Josti na Mothibe (PHOTO: FARIRAYI KAHWEMBA)

The executive mayor of Madibeng Local Munciplaity councilor Jostina Mothibe was last week at the forefront of the cleaning of graves at Oukasie near Brits. The executive mayor, joined by the leadership of the municipality also handed over title deeds to members of the community. “This is a start of a cleaner Madibeng.

We will be cleaning all graveyards and every sports ground in all our communities in the municipality,” said the executive mayor. This was followed by a door-to-door visit to the community to check whether the residents are paying for electricity. The mayor was however shocked to discover that most of the house holds had illegal electricity connections.“It seems most of the households visited have connected electricity illegally,” noted the municipality in a statement released following the visit. The mayor said a service provider has already started to install new electricity boxes to ensure that we do not lose revenue because of illegal connections.“We also want our communities to know that it is dangerous to connect electricity illegally,” said the executive mayor. To the applause of hundreds of residents, the Executive Mayor lit the fi rst high mast light in that area. Electrifi cation of high mast lights has been long anticipated by the community. “We are very happy for these lights in Oukasie, we believe that crime will go down and we will feel safe now that there will be visibility at night. We thank the municipality for this,” said John Mogaise a community member of Oukasie. To conclude the activities of the day, the executive mayor held a community meeting at Oukasie Sports ground were the community members were educated about dangers of illegal connection of electricity. Mothibe went on to hand over tittle deeds to some members of the community. Visibly delighted senior citizen, Maria Mlambo (64) had this to say “I am very happy for this title deed. Now I know that whatever happens to me, my kids will have a place to call home”. Mothibe assured the community that her municipality is hard at work to deliver quality services to the entire residents of Madibeng.“Though services might not come all at once, we will partner with other sister departments to work together in provision of services. We will also engage Mines to extend a hand in employing local people to curb unemployment,” concluded Mothibe.

Residents of Mothotlung – just outside Brits – took the opportunity of a face to face meeting with Madibeng executive mayor Jostina Mothibe to push for better services and the implementation of programs aimed at improving the lives of ordinary people living in the area.

Many residents who spoke during a Mayoral Outreach program held on 9 October complained that the municipality was sidelining them from major developmental projects and called upon the mining companies operating in the area to employ more local workers. During the outreach, Mothibe met and interacted with residents living in Mothotlung. She was also involved in a cleanup of one of the community parks while she also assisted in patching up several potholes on the roads. A number of people who addressed the mayor directly raised their concerns about some of the challenges that they are facing. One resident complained about the poor quality of roads, which he said are not being repaired properly. “We would like quaility roads please. The problem is when they are potholes, the people responsible for the repairs are not doing the proper job. “As a result, when the rains come, the potholes return and they become bigger. We would like quality roads please,” said the resident. Another woman living in Mothotlung complained about the slow pace of housing in the area. “We have been waiting for an RDP house for a long time and we fear that we might wait forever. Please may you assist us so that our problem is resolved as quickly as possible,” she said. David Mogotsi – another resident – charged that the process of allocating RDP houses to residents was not being done transparently. “Whether a person is from EFF or any other party, they should be given an opportunity to own their own house,” Mogotsi said. “We have been talking about the same problems and challenges each time, with different mayor. We are talking about the same problems and this means that the Madibeng municipality is not taking what we are saying seriously. “The time for talking is over. It is time for action,” he added. Other residents asked the municipality to put more dustbins and other waste disposal containers in the Central Business District (CBD) as this would help in the cleanliness of the streets. In her response, the mayor acknowledged the grievances that were put forward. She pleaded with the community to allow her administration more time to resolve the challenges facing various areas of the municipality. “We are asking you to be patient with us as we address the challenges that we are facing as a municipality. “We promise to address the challenges you are raising but we also need enough time to implement our interventions,” Mothibe said.

Following a rather turbulent period that saw service delivery protests and riots fl aring up in most parts of the Madibeng Local Municipality, the new executi ve Mayor – Councillor Josti na Mothibe – is determined to implement her turnaround strategy.

Leseding News closely followed the acti viti es of Mothibe, who came face to face with residents as she looks to fulfi l her mandate of bringing normalcy to the troubled municipality

On the other hand, little was known of Tolokuhle School – until they managed to reach the fi nals of the tournament. The school has been competing in the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup for a number of years now but has never made

it past the regional stage of the competition. They have no academy players and are not attached to any PSL club. They made it to the fi nal through sheer hard work, drive and determination.“It’s been a long journey, one that has been interesting from the beginning right to the fi nal game. We saw Harmony as our main competition and when they were knocked out we knew that we had a good chance to win,” said the team’s coach in a statement. “Credit must go to our Principal, Andre Castelyn. He has supported us throughout our journey. He believed in the boys and having him around encouraged the team to do better. “I also want to acknowledge the team captain, Zakhele Mgobhozi who showed true leadership qualities throughout the tournament. He led by example and deserved the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award,” he added. Trinity only came third in their Stream behind St Marks and Harmony, but secured a quarterfi nal berth as the team that performed the best in the third spot. “We came from behind to win which shows that our players have the mental ability to keep going and strive for success – even when the odds look against you.”
