Active living:A PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT

Vera Formosa has been a proud resident of Powell River for 50 years and a special volunteer at the Complex in the childmin-ding centre for 18 years!

Today, at nearly 85, she would tell you to get out of the house and discover the rewards of staying active. Vera walks... she walks everywhere! Plus, Vera loves to swim. Last summer she swam a total of 45 times down at Willingdon Beach and Mowat Bay.

Vera never misses her weekly aquafit class nor her Ease Fit class three times per week at the complex. She would tell you she was not always this active, in fact she did not even start doing aerobics until she was 80 — on her birthday yet!

This too is a great story. Vera had just finished helping out in the childminding centre and was ready to walk home but it was pouring rain so decided to just wait a bit and dropped into an aerobics class; she has been attending ever since.

Vera Formosa's interest in health and wellness translates to simply getting out to enjoy life and to feel well while doing it! Thanks, Vera. You are truly inspirational!

The majority of our population is either trying to lose or maintain

their weight, and in doing so they are resorting to drastic diets

that won’t work. Dieting is a short-term solution for a

long-term problem. The real answer is changing your

lifestyle. The Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society

would to like encourage everyone to lead a healthy

and active lifestyle by participating in the annual

Donate the Weight campaign and the 11th An-

nual Spirit Run. For further information about

these events and the goals of this national charity

which was founded by the people of Powell River 23
