Keep a journal of what’s happening in your life
at the moment. Try to find out some facts and
statistics not only about COVID 19 but also
about the restrictions that have been placed
upon NSW residents, Australians and people
around the world. We are living through a
moment of time that will go down in history.
Your grandchildren may learn about this in
school! Your journal will be a primary source of
information for them. Consider the following
prompts: What did the Australian Government
announce today? Does it impact your life?
Why or why not? What is open in your
neighbourhood? What is closed? How is today
different from yesterday for you, your family,
our nation, the world? What does your family
need today that you might not have enough of,
or be able to acquire, in the future?
Wk 2: Big Write
LI: To use emotive words to persuade
the reader.
SC: Five paragraphs and five emotive
words.
Topic: iPads are better than PCs.
Task: View the persuasive language and persuasive writing posters. You may
like to use the persuasive writing scaffold to help you plan your writing. Look at
the checklist before you begin to help guide you.
Use your understanding of an exposition from last week’s learning to write a
persuasive text to convince your teacher that iPads are better than PCs. (You can write it from the other perspective if you prefer ie: PCs are better than iPads).
Remember to focus on using wow words (high level vocabulary) and effective
openers. You can either write this on a piece of paper or type it. See GC if you
are typing it.
Friday’s Big Write Edit
Edit your text for spelling and punctuation errors and improve your vocabulary
and openers. Highlight VCOP. Complete the checklist on GC (this one will allow
you to make your own copy). Once you have finished, upload your Big Write and
checklist to GC (if you typed it) or Seesaw (if you wrote it on paper).

Materials: a toy car, a smooth, hard surface such as a chopping board or book, a box to launch the car from,
blocks or lego bricks to gradually increase the height of the ramp, blanket, ruler.
Procedure:
1. Make predictions on your worksheet after looking at the diagram on your worksheet.
2. Answer the following questions on your worksheet. How will you increase the height of the ramp?
When will you change the surface the car rolls on to? What formal units will be best for measuring the
distance? What should be kept the same for all tests? How many times should we repeat the same test
to be confident of our results? What heights (choose two) and what surfaces (choose two) will be
used? What one thing will be changed for each
3. Conduct the investigation and record your results in the table on the worksheet. Take a photo of the
investigation showing the different heights and surfaces.
4. Analyse your results and draw a column graph.
5. Reflect on the investigation questions. Does the data in the graph support your prediction? How and
why or why not? Suggest reasons. Discuss the role of gravity and energy. Discuss if the test was fair.
Discuss how to improve the test. The following videos may help you as well as the :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwO2KQ7uZxY, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuvkaeMUT50
