SHORT Review of MBSEAccording to “INCOSE Handbook v4”, and “Guide to the Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge (SEBoK)”
• Model/Modeling:
• An abstraction or representation of a system, entity, phenomenon, or process of interest. – INCOSE Handbook v4
• A simplified representation of a system at some particular point in time or space, intended to promote understanding of the realsystem. – SEBok
• Model Based (versus Model Driven) Systems:
• Model Based Systems: Computer-assisted abstract representation of system structure and behavior.
• Model-Driven Systems: Systems automatically generated from structural and behavioral models.
• Systems Engineering:
• A perspective, a process, and a profession. An interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems. An iterative process of top-down synthesis, development, and operation of a real-world system that satisfies, in a near optimal manner, the full range of requirements for the system. A discipline that concentrates on the design and application of the whole(system) as distinct from its parts. – INCOSE Handbook v4 and SEBoK
• Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE):
• The formalized application of modeling to support system requirements, design, analysis, verification, and validation activitiesbeginning in the conceptual design phase and continuing throughout the development and later life cycle phases. – INCOSE Handbook v4 and SEBok

Micro-Grid (uGrid) Reference Model (RM) Project• Initial coordination between members of the INCOSE Critical Infrastructure
Protection and Recovery (CIPR) Working Group.
• Ideas discussed to collaboratively develop a CIPR-related product or service.
• Ideas refined into, “Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to collaboratively develop a set of usable Micro-Grid (uGrid) lifecycle models.”
• Initial LSM Educational Workshop facilitated at JHU/APL on July 8, 2017. • Decision for a, “Micro-Grid (uGrid) Reference Model (RM)” to be the project product.
• First of three LSM Educational Workshops held (July to September) to collaboratively develop a scalable and flexible, “uGrid RM”, as the project product.
• Reference Model (RM): An overarching logical framework model, that can be shared and used as a starting point for modeling mission or business specific logical and physical architectures.

Micro-Grid (uGrid) Reference Model (RM) Project• Involving Critical Infrastructure Protection and Recovery (CIPR)
Stakeholders in collaboratively developing a Micro-Grid (uGrid) Reference Model (RM), that can serve as a common foundational framework model for all other detailed uGrid-related models developed throughout the full lifecycle of any uGrid system solution.
• The Goal: A Repository-Based Micro-Grid (uGrid) Reference Model (RM) that any CIPR analyst, engineer, or decision maker can quickly and easily understand, use, and share for emergency, short-term, or permanent uGrid concept, design, development, and deployment.

Introduction: Lean Startup Method (LSM)• Also called, “Lean Launchpad”
• A philosophy and methodology based on 1980s Lean Manufacturing.
• A learnable and shareable stakeholder-centric method to quickly, collaboratively, and iteratively develop a new product or service, or update existing products or services.
• Developed in its current form by American entrepreneur Eric Ries, founder and CEO of the Long Term Stock Exchange (LTSE).• Former student of Steve Blank, who pioneered the Lean Startup Movement with his
Customer Development concept.
• Understanding the Customer and his/her feedback are at the center.
