•  2.9 million children deprived of an educa>on.

•  3.5 million children are enrolled in school in Hai>.

•  UN es>mates $8 billion in damage, including both direct damage and damage to the Hai>an economy.

Tchaly

•  This is 13-‐year old Jean-‐Philippe Tchaly Marckenley.

•  Born on the 5th of August, 2001.

•  Tchaly is in the 7th grade in the Lycée Na>onal de Cite Soleil.

•  Hard-‐working and serious about educa>on -‐ maintaining his grades above 70%.

The Lycee National de Cite School & the Need

The Lycée National is the only public secondary school in Cite Soleil.

Conditions at the Lycée

After the earthquake, the school building was ordered evacuated, due to its unsafe design.


For 4 years, the Lycée’s students have studied in temporary structures in the

courtyard.


In the dry season, the structures are sweltering hot, while water accumulates everywhere

during the rainy season.
