OF LATIN AMERICA
Directions
• In front of you, you have the name of the three revolutionaries of the independence movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.
• You will be asked to identify the leader of the movement based on the descriptions that follow.
• Some statements may apply to all of the leaders on this one you hold up the “A” card– Remember this is about what you know--not what others
know!
All Miguel Hidalgo
Toussaint L’Ouverture
Simon Bolivar
The country of Bolivia was named in his honor.
He is known as the father of Mexican independence.
He was able to end Spanish rule in South America.
A wealthy Venezuelan who was educated in Spain.
His job in Mexico was as a priest.
He was imprisoned in France, where he eventually died.
He helped citizens gain independence in Haiti.
When he rang his church bell it was the signal for the beginning
of the revolution
Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela won their
independence through his efforts.
A former slave who was self educated
He was infected with tuberculosis and died from the disease.
Did not live to see their country become independent
He lived to see all of his countries become independent
His nickname was “El Liberatador”
