LENTEN/EASTER DEVOTION John 1:40-42 (New Living Translation)

https://aldersgatelent2015.wordpress.com/

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what

John said and then followed Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother,

Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means

“Christ”). Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently

at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John— but you will

be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”).

Andrew’s brother Simon Peter is arguably the most famous of Jesus’

twelve closest disciples. Peter is known for his passion and impulsivity.

But it is Andrew who brings Peter to meet Jesus. It’s Andrew’s curios-

ity about John the Baptist’s testimony that led him to find out more

about Jesus. And once Andrew had met Jesus, he quickly decided to

follow him.

He could have kept this life-changing decision to himself. But he

just can’t help himself! He is so excited! I can just imagine Andrew

running as fast as he can over to his brother, and breathlessly telling

him, “We have found the Messiah!!!”

Okay, so the New Living Translation doesn’t have it, but I can’t help

but think that there would be at least three exclamation points at the end

of that statement! And probably some underlining and bold, as well.

After all, that is quite the proclamation Andrew is making. The Jewish

people had been waiting for generation upon generation for the arrival

of the Messiah, and Andrew has declared that the moment has finally

arrived!

If John the Baptist is the first prophet in our Lenten story, then Andrew

is our first evangelist. He just can’t help himself!

Question: When was the last time you were so

excited about something

in your life that you just couldn’t help

talking about it?

When was the last time you felt that

way about God?

Dennis Mennenga Part II

You are invited to gather together with Dennis at either the 5 p.m. Saturday worship service on Mar. 14th or the 9 a.m. Sunday service on Mar 15th as he tells about his life experiences and the faith that has sustained him throughout.

He will share his thoughts and feelings on the death of his brother, Dale, five years ago, and the passing of his Mom shortly thereafter.

He will also talk about his near death after being shot accidently by his brother Dale, the sense of loss at the selling of the family farm, and most importantly, how his life went on and he has faced these changes through his faith in Jesus!

Registration now open!

Applications can be picked up from the church office, downloaded

from our website (leroypresbyterian.info) or obtained from Director

Kristin Smith. Registration is now open to everyone on a first come,

first served basis.

If you, or someone you know would be interested in having their

child attend our faith-based preschool, please contact us for more

information!

Endless Buzz March 2015

Set Our Hearts on Fire!

I recently read a definition of humility as “being fully occupied with

God”. This definition came from our weekly Stuck on Thursdays

Bible study, by author Jennie Allen. These words have literally

“stuck” with me! The season of Lent challenges Christians to

observe 40 days of fasting, prayer, repentance and heart examination.

How do we commit our hearts fully to God and tackle the challenge

Lent offers?

Our youth in the LOOP and LANDING ministry groups are commit-

ted to a 20-30-40 Challenge. This opportunity is seeking 20 youth to

commit to 30 devotions during the 40 days of Lent. Each Wednesday

our students gather for high energy games, snacks and to hang-out,

but the main focus of the ministry is what happens when we gather to

hear and respond to God’s Message and prayer. On Ash Wednesday

“Challenge Cards” were given to over 30 students, along with Teen

Devotionals for students who did not receive one as a gift at Christ-

mas time. The students were excited for the Challenge and many

have reported they have been checking dates off of their Challenge

cards! The youth are craving a deeper walk with our Lord and a

desire to live a life of humility. (Yay God! ;)

Each person, young and old, are on their own unique and personal

faith walk. It is important during Lent for believers to evaluate

where they are and where God is leading them. Nothing excites me

more than when a visible transformation is taking place in someone’s

faith! Passion in Christ begins with a spark, then a spark grows into a

flame, and not long after, a flame bursts into a raging fire! Wow!

I hope you will join me in a Humility

Challenge; let us be sons and daughters

who are fully occupied with God and

allow Him to set our hearts on fire!

God himself is fire! Hebrews 12:29 (Message Translation)

Library News

We welcome anyone who has enjoyed material from our

library to share their thoughts about the book or video

with other readers. Janice Trachsel does a great job in

making sure there are books for a wide range of interests.

This month Mason Cordray gives a review on a book series he has

recently read:

I recommend the series "Swipe" by Evan Angler. This series is very

exciting and hard to put down. It has very climactic plot twists

keeping you interested and engaged. The storyline includes ele-

ments of a futuristic Chicago and a world without war. Although it

may sound peaceful, it isn't. The world is blinded to the corruption

of the government. Even if it sounds like the government is trying to

make the world a better place, it actually is keeping many secrets.

Get comfy and bring the whole family out to

join the fun for the special showing of the movie

Hoovey at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 15th!

A pizza dinner will follow.

Donations for the pizza will be accepted and will

benefit our youth summer camps fundraising

efforts. Thank you for your support!

More about Hoovey, the movie:

When promising high school basketball player Eric “Hoovey” Elliott collapses on the court, doctors discover a life-threatening brain tumor. Hoovey will survive the high-risk surgery, but at what cost? Can he relearn to walk, read, even to see clearly? The road is long, and meanwhile overwhelming medical bills

threaten to undo everything his parents, Jeff and Ruth, have taken a lifetime to build. With seemingly no one to turn to—but with tenacity and love born of faith—an entire family regains its footing. Hoovey learns to read again, to dribble and shoot a basketball and, finally, stepping out in faith, he’s back on court for another

shot at his dream . . . Hoovey Movie - our kids with Hoovey in the middle-back
