Question:
Is this you?
“Do I have to?”“I don’t like it.”
“This was fun for a while, but enough already.”
“I hate work.”
“There is more to my life than this.”
“But, I have done everything I am supposed to.”
And it was supposed
to lead
to more than this.
Happiness, things, money, success...
but, it seems to be going
towards A-dull-t hood
Unfortunately, it gets even worse...
Really?
Really?Ugh.
when you imagine yourselfyears later...
decades later...
wondering what your life would have
been like
wondering what your life would have
been like if...
wondering what your life would have
been like if...
you had connected to your dreams
you had not paid so much attention to what you were supposed to do
you had connected to your dreams
you had not paid so much attention to what you were supposed to do
you had believed in yourself more
you had connected to your dreams

you had treated people with dignity and respect!
you had connected to your dreams
But instead, you end up here.
Former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes stumbled upon some truth when he said "most people go to their graves with their music still inside them."
RIP
“He died with his music still inside him.”
But, you are aware of that gnawing.
So
It is time to do something about it.
Um. But...
Time to stop thinking
Act!
Act!
And the place to start is...
the ideas in Morgan’s book.
the ideas in Morgan’s book.
the ideas in Morgan’s book.
These ideas are what this presentation is
all about!
4 Steps to a Life of Meaning and Fulfillment!
from Launch My Life
by Morgan Rich
Step #1
Play Huge
1
Play Huge
Huge, like my ears! They’re alert, powerful,
and useful.
Play HugeFor you that means
playful, courageous, confident, and on purpose.
Play HugeFor you that means
playful, courageous, confident, and on purpose.
And it’s okay if you arealert, powerful, and useful
as well.
But you might think...Play what?
or...is this for real?
Or... “you really want me to play and all that?”
And if you are really “on it”
And if you are really “on it”
“on it” means you think you have it all together and are too cool for this stuff.
Or you are too zoned out.
And if you are really “on it”
“on it” means you think you have it all together and are too cool for this stuff.
Or you are too zoned out.
So, if you are really “on it”, you might create:
The list of reasons why Play Huge is stupid...
• I do not like to play - it is for kids
• I have no idea how to play
• And if I did know how, I do not know what I would play
• It takes too much energy
But, you are bigger than this!
Morgan knows that the Real You is deep in there
➡ beyond the “Play?!” facade
➡ beyond the “this is stupid” facade
➡ beyond the “I like my couch” laziness
Morgan knows
Get off it.And get on with your life.
In your moments of real honesty
in the shower, biking, talking with friends, where ever it is for you...
who you want to be shows up
and that uninhibited excited energy is the Real You!
and that uninhibited excited energy is the Real You!
I like to sing in the shower!
And he knows that your Real You wants to:
➡ Make a difference
➡ Leave the planet a better place than you found it
➡ Create meaningful relationships

That’s what you’ve been told to do.
Break free!
Get connected to your Real You.
Resist the pressure to be something you are not.

but, more importantly...
Morgan knows
You Know
...
. . . and you want to let it out.
You Know
...
Gnaw is all about knowing it and
doing nothing about it.
Instead . . .
Learn about yourself!
What is your learning style?
How does your brain work?
I have a friend, whose name is Ben. One day I was talking about ideas from Launch My Life
with Ben. He listened. He smiled. He reflected.
Then he started to do something in his notebook. Finally he looked up at me and he
said,
Is this what you are talking
about?
Ben is a visual
learner.
He understands and interprets the world through his drawings. He loves drawing and creating images for concepts he is learning.
He also happens to be a gifted musician.
Because of his different learning style, guess what Ben’s 4th grade teacher told his parents :
“I think your son is mentally retarded.”
Because of his different learning style, guess what Ben’s 4th grade teacher told his parents :
Yikes! I guess it’s important to
Know Yourself.
I have stories about all my friends. Check it out:
I have a friend who makes everything into a song...
I have a friend...
➡ who is good at taking tests and learning in a classroom...
➡ who really likes reading and loves science...
➡ who is really good at sports...
➡ who is really good at making friends and connecting with people of all ages...
➡ who...
...learns differently than me.Not better, not worse.
Just different.
...learns differently than me.Not better, not worse.
Just different.
guess what?
...learns differently than me.Not better, not worse.
Just different.
Everyone you know has a different learning style and a
different brain.
guess what?
➡ How are you unique?
➡ What is your learning style?
➡ How are you smart?
➡ What are your strengths and talents?
What is your story?
and then combine your story
with...
What you stand for?
My friend Lee stands for giving everyone a chance. He works with young people. He is
massively patient with them. He listens. When his colleagues get annoyed, frustrated, and
angry at someone, Lee is able to connect with the person.
He is gentle, persistent, and trusting. He does not pander to people or get taken advantage of, because he stands for their greatness. He absolutely believes that every person has a
contribution to make and it’s his responsibility to draw it out.
I have stories about all kinds of things that my friends stand for. Check it out:
I have a friend who stands for ending world hunger...
I have friends who...
➡ are committed to honest and direct communication
➡ are advocates for rights for war veterans
➡ love traveling
➡ like having time to spend alone
➡ volunteer for anti-drunk driving campaigns
➡ ride their bike everywhere
What do you stand for?
➡ What cause are you passionate about?
➡ How do you want to make a difference?
➡ What do you love spending your time doing?
➡ What gets you in action?
Remember...

Step #3
Trust Yourself
3
Act!
Wait a minute . . . I have to DO something?
Yes! Believe in yourself enough to boldly Act!
You know how you learn. You know how you
understand the world. You know what you stand
for.
Be the REAL YOU!
Trust Yourself is . . .So...
STAND Powerfully and Courageously
for YOU!
Trust Yourself is . . .
If the Real You wants to travel after graduation . . .
. . . start making arrangements!
If the Real You wants to travel after graduation . . .
If the Real You wants time to yourself . . .
. . . ask for it.
If the Real You wants time to yourself . . .
Don’t get caught up in. . .
what you think people will say.
Morgan calls this your Silly Self Talk.
People might be surprised.
People might be disappointed.
People might be angry.
“When your decision is
aligned with the Real You, you already have your own
approval! When you Trust
Yourself your self esteem is
not determined by the approval
of others.”
-Morgan Rich, MA, PCC
Thinking about what people think, makes you think. And
usually you think people think you are not thinking...
thinking. So
Trust Yourself. And...
Trust Yourself. And...
Pay attention now... this is the important
part!
Act!
Trust Yourself
3
Step #4
Empathize
4
so you can focus on others.
Know Yourself and Trust Yourself focus on you
It isn’t about you!
Empathizing is about understanding other people - how their brain works, what they think happened, what they stand for and
here is the most important part:on their terms.
The Teacher
When I taught middle school math, I did not understand why my students were not understanding the material. I kept telling them how to do the problem, giving them homework, and challenging them. But when it came time for the tests, they did not do well. I blamed them for being lazy and for not studying.
Eventually I realized that my methods were not working (and I was neither gaining the students respect or effectively teaching them). It became evident that I was trapped in not trusting myself. When I was telling the students how to do the problem, I was actually trying to prove to them that I knew what I was doing. By telling them how I do the problem and expecting that they did it the same way I did, I was assuming my way was the right way and that there was something wrong with them because they did not understand.
It was only when I started listening that I understood that they were trying, they were working hard, and they were capable. I learned that they understood math differently than me - their brains work differently.
From that point on I turned on my empathy. I realized that I had to learn how to help them understand in the way that works best for them. My challenge was to understand how they were solving the problem and provide an answer in a way that would help them take steps down their solution path. After I began to do this, their understanding of math increased, but more importantly so did their self-esteem.
Morgan knows
This is where the world shifts. It shifts because with empathy:
➡ We treat people with dignity and respect➡ We create meaningful and fulfilling relationships with people➡ We deal with reality, not false stories
Morgan knows
What you think people are saying is not important.
What you think people are saying is not important.
That’s making an assumption.
Listening.
Listening.
Real Listening.
Listening
to how they understand the world
Listening
to learn what they stand for
Listening
to how they are feeling about themselves
Listening
Listening
not judging
Listening
not judging
not comparing
Listening
not judging
not comparing
not assuming
Listening
to understandother people
helps you avoid...
The Friend
I had a crush on a boy in one of my classes. After class one day I asked him how he did on the test. He ignored me and walked out of the room. I was humiliated. I had thought he was a good guy, but what a jerk.
It took me several months, but I eventually asked him why he ignored me that day. He was shocked. He had been wondering why I was not talking with him anymore.
He explained that he had not done well on the test and that he was scared about telling his parents. When I asked how he did, he did not hear me.
Then we laughed about all the false stories that I had made up and that he had made up about why we were not talking to each other. If we had just asked right away, it would not have taken 2 months, lots of tears, anger, and lonliness to figure out what happened.
Do not make assumptions about how people learn or what they are
thinking.
Listen.Ask.
Communicate.Empathize.
Do not make assumptions about how people learn or what they are
thinking.
Be willing to connect with them in a way that
works for them, because...
Meaning and Fulfillmentare about connecting
to people!
Empathize
