They counted dogs into their baskets and used their artistic skills to paint wonderful pictures of dogs. The children have enjoyed pretending to be vets and looking after all the pets The children have been using initial sounds this week and have been copying words and labelling their pictures of dogs. Well done to all the children!

Words of Encouragement

This week's words of encouragement are found in Psalm 145 verse 8-13 (NLT)

The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.

All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you.

They will speak of the glory of your kingdom; they will give examples of your power. They will tell about your mighty deeds

and about the majesty and glory of your reign. For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.

You rule throughout all generations.

These words express the character of God. He is the example of patience, kindness and

love to everyone that comes to him. This should encourage everyone to trust His unfailing love towards them and give them the confidence to persevere, especially during difficult times.

Look what the children have been doing! Nursery We have had a busy week in Nursery where the children have been learning about dogs as part of our topic about Pets. The children have been looking at the features of different breeds of dogs and have listened to the story “Oh No George!”. They counted dogs into their baskets and used their artistic skills to paint wonderful pictures of dogs. The children have enjoyed pretending to be vets and looking after all the pets The children have been using initial sounds this week and have been copying words and labelling their pictures of dogs. Well done to all the children!

Reception After a lovely, long Bank Holiday weekend, the Reception children were keen to come back to school and tell us all about their exciting news. We are so pleased to see how well children’s language is developing as we come to the end of their Foundation Years. Daniel told us all about his adventures at the Fun Fair and Israel had been to the Pet Shop and saw some rabbits.

We have started to look at a wonderful story called Anna Hibiscus’ Song which is a story about families, happiness and the celebration of life. We had lots of discussion about our families and drew some portraits of our family members. We all agreed that families are precious and we love them very much. Year 1 This term, our set book is ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by the famous children’s author Roahl Dahl. This is linked to our Science topic, ‘Animal Antics’ where children have been learning about different types of animals; grouping them according to their characteristics. In Music, children listened to the ‘Dance of the Carnivals – hens and cockerels’. They learnt about some simple elements of music such as pitch, rhythm, tempo and dynamics. They identified these elements as they listened to the music. They used their knowledge of warm and cool colours to colour to the sound of the music. In Art, children learnt about primary and secondary colours. They created a colour wheel and were able to mix primary colours to create secondary colours. Then used paint to create different coloured birds. In RE, children have been listening to different stories told by Jesus and discussing the lesson from each story. Year 2 Year 2 has been enjoying “Charlie Cook's favourite book”. Based on the story ideas, the children wrote some ambitious endings for the story 'Escape from the island'. The children loved exploring new vocabulary using dictionaries and thesauruses. Many children claimed that this was their best piece of writing all year! It was wonderful to see the children aiming to complete 3+ pages independently, incorporating a range of punctuation and vocabulary. Well done Year 2. Year 3 Year 3 have been studying the physical and human features of the continent of Europe. The Eiffel Tower in Paris and Stonehenge in England were some of the many famous features they learnt about. They have also researched the various

European festivals such as the tomato throwing festival in Spain (La Tomatina) and the mask-wearing parties of Venice (The Carnival of Venice). However, by far the most interesting for them was the various dances they learnt and presented to each other. They learnt the basic steps to the Russian Cossack dance, the Spanish Flamenco and the Irish Jig (none were brave enough to try the Waltz!). We hope the photos can give you a glimpse into what they experienced.

Year 4 Fantastic Fours continued to explore the concepts of ‘Hope’ and ‘Glory’ in the United Kingdom. All children had the opportunity to present their FITT project in a special Achievement Assembly. These were informative, interesting, engaging and provided us with more insight into the rich, cultural background of our children. These projects highlight the fact that mass migration from people all over the world, not only help to rebuild the economy in the United Kingdom, they accomplished so much more. Generations of migrants have reshaped the culture of Britain including religions, languages, music, food, dress, colour and vibrancy. Britain is a much better and brighter country as a result of migration.

“We are the product of a mix, with ancestors from all over the world. I belong everywhere and anywhere I choose to call home.” Aishah Camatchee

Year 5 Year 5 have settled back into school life superbly after the Easter holidays and are now working incredibly hard to catch up on their learning time. The children are currently all enjoying our new Topic unit on Angry Earth, which has seen them already investigate how valleys collect water. How and why earthquakes occur, what causes tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. This week the children have learnt that it was indeed Mount Vesuvius’ pyroclastic current that destroyed Pompeii and eradicated Herculaneum and not the lava as once thought. Special mention goes to Hezil, Raluca, Elsie, Angel and Elvira (5 Blue) on creating some incredible Volcano factsheets.

Ataejah (5 Yellow) for her input and excellent questions during Science lessons and Kayla, (also 5 Yellow) for working hard with her understanding of decimals. Harry (5 Red) for working well during paired work and Theresa (5 Red) for making huge progress during Maths Power Up sessions. It has been lovely having the year group back together again, with the children making huge efforts to work as hard as possible to achieve their best in all subject areas. Keep it UP!! J The Year 5 Team Year 6 Year 6 children are enjoying learning all about World War 2 as part of our 'Conflict' topic. Last week, they had a very enjoyable WW2 day. They thoroughly enjoyed: learning about entertainment in the1930's; evacuation of children to the countryside; the Blitz and making replica gas masks and identity cards. They were expected to carry their identity cards all day and produce it, if asked to do so by an adult (during WW2 everyone, including children, had to carry an identity card at all times to show who they were and where they lived). Unfortunately, some of our children forgot to carry their identity card with them all day and had to pay a forfeit of 10 star jumps!

Very well done!

E-safety Along with the benefits of children using more technology, there are unfortunately more risks. Yesterday we invited Alan McKenzie who is an e-safety adviser, into school to do workshops with Key Stage 2 children and to work with staff to make sure our e-safety procedures and curriculum are as good as they can be. It’s

important that parents and family members monitor how children use technology at home too. For advice and information please visit www.thinkuknow.co.uk Year 6 power up! Details of the Year 6 Power up catch up programme have been emailed to Year 6 parents and the letter can be viewed on the letters page of our website. This programme begins next week so if you have a child in year 6 please take the time to read it. Latecomers An increasing number of children are arriving at school late. Please refer to the times indicated in the Covid updates part of this newsletter for your child’s start time. Children who are persistently late will be referred to the Education Welfare Officer. Absence reporting If your child is absent from school, you must call the school office to report this as soon as possible on the first day of absence. Safeguarding update Latymer All Saints has joined a scheme run along with the Metropolitan Police called Operation Encompass. As part of this scheme, if police are called to attend a domestic violence incident at the home of a child at our school, safeguarding staff in school will be notified and will use this information in confidence to support the child and the family. A letter about this scheme can be found on the safeguarding page of our website. Nursery spaces We still have a few Nursery spaces available for September. Please call the school office for more details. Water bottles The weather is getting warmer and children must have a filled water bottle in school with them every day so they remain hydrated. A named, larger-sized refillable bottle is best as it will reduce plastic waste but also reduce the opportunity for virus transmission during times when water bottles are being refilled. Thank you for your support with this. Ventilation and warm dress Due to the Covid pandemic, we must keep our classrooms well ventilated at all times. Despite the weather getting warmer we do have days on the cooler side sometimes so please make sure that your child is dressed warmly for school, ideally with a navy fleece. Hayfever If your child suffers from hayfever you must make sure that you give them their medication before they come to school. If they need further doses in the day please make sure that you contact Mrs Choudhury via the school office so we can make sure we have all of the correct paperwork and permissions to administer medication in school. Since we have to make sure school is well ventilated this is of particular importance at this time.

we aspire with confidence, working hard and embracing challenge and we serve God and the community, following the example of Jesus, to create a better world.
