The term for Soror Pamelia Atkins-Girouard will be up in a short few weeks. She cer-
tainly deserves the break from the grueling schedule she has made, and kept, for the
last four years as our president and state coordinator. Before she bids us adieu with her
infamous wave, let’s see how well you know our beloved Soror President!!
1. What are the names of her husband and two sons?
2. What is her favorite color? Her favorite flower?
3. What’s on her “bucket list”?
4. What is her favorite pastime, that she MAY get an opportunity to embrace once
again?
5. What word has she said, repeatedly, at E-Board and chapter meetings for the past
few months?
Answers are on page 5.

Physical and Mental Health Committee You may already know that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. What you
may not know is that you can help these women and thousands of others in the fight against breast cancer.
On May 2, 2009, Deltas For the Cure will be participating in the Komen Southern Nevada Race for the
Cure® with a great team of dedicated people. Join the fight by registering as part of our team or by supporting
our efforts with a pledge contribution. The money raised through the Race will fund vital educational, screen-
ing and treatment programs for underserved women and men in our own community affected by this disease
and will also support the national search for a cure.
This is a 1 mile walk or 5K run.
The P&MH Committee will pay the registration fee for the first 20 chapter members to sign up.
Committee Budgets Soror Marentic is requesting that all committee chairs sub-
mit their 2009-2010 budgets ASAP. If your budget is not
submitted on time then the budget will be determined by the
Budget and Finance Committee. Please contact Soror
Marentic if you have questions.
Social Action Alert Senator Mikulski, a fellow social worker, reintroduced the Dorothy I. Height and Whitney M. Young, Jr. So-
cial Work Reinvestment Act (S.686) on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. The date is significant because it was Dr.
Height’s 97th birthday. This legislation is a testament to her lifetime of work on behalf of others, as well as the
indelible mark that Whitney Young left on our profession.
The new bills are similar to those introduced during the last session of Congress, although some revisions,
which we believe strengthen the Act, have been made. The legislation provides for:
Creation of a Social Work Reinvestment Commission to provide recommendations and strategies to Con-
gress to address the challenges facing the profession – recruitment, working conditions, and increased demand
for social workers. Establishment of demonstration grant programs in the areas of workplace improvements, research, educa-
tion and training, and community based programs of excellence to address the ―on-the-ground‖ realities
that we are facing now. Our profession is essential to creating healthy individuals, families, and communities. During my time at
NASW, one of our main goals for the Association has been to ensure that professional social work survives
and thrives. Passage of this legislation is essential to fulfilling this mission.
But, passage of this legislation cannot happen without your support. Members of Congress need to hear from
you why spending federal tax dollars on the profession of social work is necessary and important in these chal-
lenging times. They need to know why our profession is critical to solving the economic and social challenges
we are facing. Please take these two easy steps:
Contact your Senators and encourage them to co-sponsor the legislation and to work for its passage. If you have not yet done so, contact your Representative in Congress regarding co-sponsorship and work-
ing for passage.
