Bits & Pieces PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE by Marilyn Robinson

Welcome to Fall! It’s amazing, when you think about it, how things constantly change – the days – the

weather – the seasons. Some of us prefer things to remain the same – there is comfort, familiarity in constant

sameness. But, unfortunately things cannot always be the same. There is challenge and excitement in

change, and as we individually face the challenges in our lives as change occurs, the Lanark County Quilters

Guild is also facing the challenge of change.

Due to Administrative changes in the School Boards, your Quilt Show Committee was forced to postpone the

Quilt Show from 2017 to 2018 – that in itself is a challenging change. Now, due to further changes we are also

faced with the challenge of a new Venue. The Lanark County Quilters Guild Quilt Show will be held in July of 2018 at the

Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre. Further information will be available as the Committee firms up final details. This

is an exciting new challenge and we are looking forward, with your help, to having a wonderful Show!

The Common Threads

LCQG 2017 Christmas Sale Saturday, November 4, 11:00 - 2:00 Glad Tidings Pentacostal Church, 160 Wayside Drive, Perth

DONATIONS: Please bring your donated items to the October Guild meeting. For last minute donations, please contact

Nijole Deskin (613-267-2982/[email protected]) to arrange drop off or pick up.

LUNCHEON: Christmas sale volunteers needed—Our luncheon needs many hands for continued success. We still need

six more kitchen helpers for November 4 and 11 pans of squares plus 7 more loaves of sandwiches so if you can help please email [email protected] or call Linda at 905-376-1220

CONSIGNMENTS: The guild will charge 10 % of selling price for consignment articles. You decide on the price. Please bring your items, & the consignment form to Glad Tidings Church between 1-3 pm on Friday, November 3rd (or arrange for a friend to take them !) Anna C. will have tags for you to attach to your items at that time.

This year only one large quilt per person will be hung, however if you bring more than one large quilt and your first quilt sells then your second quilt will be hung etc. (So if you have multiples label them 1,2 etc.) Quilts not hung will be dis-played folded. In previous years very few large quilts have sold at Christmas Fair, smaller seasonal items are much more popular.

The committee needs to know the size of your large quilt(s) by October guild night (October 24th) so please bring the measurements to guild or contact Anna Cornel.

A PDF of the consignment form is enclosed. If you are unable to print it, there will be extra copies at the guild meeting.

Library Crazy Shortcut Quilts by M. McManus & S. Raffuse; donated

by Edith Seaward.

This book is a mixture of making modern crazy quilts and quilt as you go using decorative stitching. The instructions are easy to understand and the book is suitable for a beginning quilter as well as an experienced one. The authors describe the pro-jects as “CRAZY quilts that you can make in a very SHORT time using a few straight CUTS and decoratively stitched into

gorgeous home décor QUILTS”.

Bed & Breakfast Quilts by M. Dietrich; donated by Edith Sea-

ward.

A book with lovely, traditional quilt patterns and yummy-looking recipes for great breakfast dishes. I couldn’t decide

which I like better! (But I know I like quilting better than I like

cooking.) Lots of great tips and easy to follow instructions.

Thank you to Judy Pattinson for offering to help Edith and me

with the library!
