A word from the CEO

All of the Lamprell facilities are

currently running at a high level

of activity and we are now

seeing the new Hamriyah Yard

taking shape with the dredging

works nearing completion and

the construction of the new

quay wall underway. We are still

looking at maintaining our initial

schedule to move into the yard

at the turn of the year and to

commence the construction of

our next new-build Super 116-C

which will be the first major

project for the new yard. We have

also recently commissioned the

first of three new major worker

accommodation blocks, which

we see as an essential element

to improve the living standards

of our workforce.

Since last writing we have

appointed Nigel McCue as our

new Chief Operating Officer.

Nigel has been associated with

Lamprell over a number of years

and has been a non-executive

director of Lamprell plc since

inception. This move

significantly strengthens our

senior management team and

we all wish Nigel well in this new

and challenging role.

In each article that is written for

each issue of this magazine I

find that the constant theme

tends to be the continued

growth and expansion of the

Company, which over the past

five years has developed into a

highly successful international

public company. At the time of

writing we are now preparing

ourselves for a move onto the

Main Market of the London

Stock Exchange which will be

another landmark step in the

ongoing development of our

company. It is always

recognised that this continued

success would not be possible

without the hard work and

commitment at every level

within the organisation. For this

I would like to express the

thanks of the board of

directors, the Lamprell family

and my own personal thanks to

all of the Lamprell team as we

look forward to another

successful year.

At the half year 2008 we continue to expand and develop our business and we see another successful year

developing. The Company order book is at an all-time high with three new-build LeTourneau Super 116-C now

contracted, two Seajacks lift boats under construction and the recent award of the two tender support drilling

units for Bass Drill. This is all in addition to an unprecedented level of rig refurbishment activity. All of which gives

us a high level of visibility through 2010.

Appointment of Chief Operating OfficerNigel McCue was appointed to

the board of Lamprell plc on 7

July 2006 as a non-executive

director and in May 2008 moved

over to take on the executive role

of Chief Operating Officer. Nigel

is 56 and has over 30 years of

experience in the upstream

sector of the petroleum industry

and brings with him not only the

experience gained over many

years in the oil industry but also

the experience of more than 20

years of living and working in the

Middle East.

Nigel was previously the CEO,

and a director, of Jura Energy

Corporation, a company listed on

the Toronto Stock Exchange and

based in the Middle East. He was

also a director of Nemmoco

Petroleum Limited, a private

exploration and production

company. Prior to this he was a

director and the Chief Financial

Officer of Lundin Oil Plc. Nigel has

also held various positions with

Chevron Overseas Inc. and Gulf

Oil Corporation. Nigel is a senior

non-executive director of Dragon

Oil Plc, where he is chairman of its

audit committee.

Summer 2008

The Olowi modules were loaded out

during February and March in three

separate loads and transported to the

Dry Docks World Dubai facility using

the Lamprell Hamriyah Pride barge.

Delivery was programmed to coincide

with the Dubai Dry Docks’ schedule for

loading onto the Fred Olsen Production

FPSO Knock Allen.

The modules have now been lif ted onto

the FPSO alongside additional modules

delivered from Singapore with Lamprell

providing a small integration crew to

our immediate client Kanfa Process

Norway, led by Lamprell Project

Engineer Vishal Jose. The team is

engaged in completion and integration

works in unison with the activities of

Dry Docks World Dubai. Upon

completion, the FPSO will set sail to the

Olowi field offshore Gabon, where it will

take up operations for field operator,

Canadian Natural resources.

This is the second project in

succession to be completed for and

on behalf of the Kanfa Process Group

from Norway and we look forward to

widening our relationship with this

client in the very near future. We

would also like to recognise the

dedication and joint efforts of our

Project Manager James Clements

and our client Inge Holm who worked

long hours and overcame many

hurdles to ensure delivery was not

unduly affected.

Jebel Ali Operations

With the continued growth of the

company and the annual increase in

production requirements, Lamprell

Jebel Ali has been making significant

investment into both core infrastructure

and new production equipment.

Office space, as ever, has been at a

premium. Last year saw the

commencement of works on the new

G+2 building. This project has been the

victim of various construction delays,

however it is now on track to be

completed and handed over by August.

The new building will add 600 sq.m of

additional internal storage space and

1200 sq.m of additional office space.

The new offices will be the new home

to offshore projects, production and the

quality control departments.

This year has also seen the

commission of a new ‘amenities

building’. The amenities building will

house on the ground floor, a canteen,

lockers, toilets, clock stations and

training facilities. The first floor has

been designed to rehouse the

engineering department. This will allow

for the electrical department to be

reunified and additional space for

future anticipated growth. It is

planned for the area vacated by the

engineering department to be taken

over by production — this will allow

the foremen to be at last moved to a

permanent structure, from their long-

term temporary cabins. The building

will also house the marine projects,

personnel, safety departments and

will have spare office space for any

future requirements.

In 2008 we have started to see the

fruition of orders placed in 2007. In

April we had two 1000-series 100te-

capacity Manitowoc cranes delivered

(see photo). These cranes went straight

into service as soon as they hit the

ground. The order will be completed in

September with the delivery of a new

999, 250te-capacity Manitowoc crane.

Summer 2008

The load-out of the M20 separation

module, M80 power generation module

and M90 electrical module for FPSOcean

took place in mid-February ‘08. It was a

milestone for FPSOcean as it has brought

their first FPSO nearer to completion.

Lamprell have been pleased to help this

newcomer to the market achieve this

major milestone which culminated in the

modules being lifted onto Deep

Producer on 25 and 26 February.

In addition to the topsides, Lamprell have

completed the design and construction of

a purpose-built accommodation module

that was delivered to Dry Docks World

Dubai in early January of this year.

Lamprell will continue its support of this

project on an on-required basis over the

coming months to enable a smooth

transition into commissioning of the ship

into service.

Also scheduled to arrive in July this

year is the long-awaited transporter

unit. This unit has been made by

Gaussin in France and has a capacity

to transport blocks of 150te weights

around the yard. It is planned to utilise

this unit to maximise the efficiency of

yard space. The unit will be of

particular use in the transportation of

hull blocks around the yard for the

various marine projects.

Additional investment has seen the

orders placed for two new tower

cranes, a tractor/trailer and various

production equipment, a new CNC

plate-cutting machine, and a new CNC

6-axis pipe profiling machine. Other

yard developments include the

upgrading and streamlining of the

waste water storage and disposal.

This has been designed to take the

frequent tanker disposal traffic outside

of the yard and has been also looked at

with a view to the later implementation

of a waste water processing plant.

To accommodate the continual process

of welder turnover and welder training,

investment has been made to fit out and

upgrade the training school. This will

allow for more efficient use of the training

resource and will increase the quality of

the training. The new school will also

incorporate a small training room to allow

the welders to be well updated on the

theoretical side of the processes.

Continued investments for the year

ahead should see the installation of

plant air to service various sectors of

the yard. Additional investment has

been carried out in track welding

machines in order to increase the

efficiencies on panel fabrication and

additional automated blasting facility.

The new wheelabrator will be

specifically for sectional steel and will

allow the existing machine to be

dedicated to the large volumes of

anticipated plates.

June 18 heralded the end of this

year’s schools sponsorship

programme with the English

end-of-term awards ceremony held

at the Community Theatre Auditorium,

Mall of the Emirates.

The event showcased various musical

talents, exceptional solo pieces

performed by resident students of the

college, after which students from all

years who have excelled both in

academic studies and the sporting

arena this year were officially

recognised for their achievements.

In an Oscar-like ceremony, the

prizewinners took to the stage to

receive their accolades from the

evening’s guest of honour, Peter

Whitbread, CEO Lamprell Energy Ltd.

The ceremony drew to a close with a

fitting and appropriate address to the

students delivered by Peter who

underlined the need to qualify and

commit to the business of study and

education and to never stop trying

to improve.

As befitted this message, the address

was followed by the handover of the

newly-struck Lamprell Whitbread

achievement trophies donated for

award to the most improved male and

female student.

Our congratulations are extended to

two worthy candidates, Liam

Campbell and Natasha robinson,

who were nominated by the teaching

staff to win the inaugural Lamprell

awards under Lamprell’s selection

criteria. These underline that the

recipients should be selected based

on overall performance in the face of

adversity, team players who have tried

and striven continually to achieve

academic improvement, earned the

respect of the teaching staff and the

peer group for their efforts, whilst

taking time to encourage others to

go the extra mile.

This schools sponsorship programme,

a by-product of Peter’s own personal

investment and that of the company is

deemed to have been a huge success

and before the school embark on the

Lamprell-sponsored sports tour of

Australia, a commitment has been

made to support the college in a

similar way in the 2008/2009 school’s

calendar year.

Seajacks Project quality of workmanship is second to noneThe Seajacks Project to design and

construct two harsh-environment lif t

boats at the Jebel Ali facility is

progressing according to the schedule

with the launching and naming

ceremony, on schedule for mid-October

this year. With a majority of the detailed

design milestones completed, the

construction remains slightly ahead of

schedule with outfitting of the mess

decks and accommodation areas

continuing at a ferocious pace.

Commenting on the Lamprell

Construction workmanship being

applied to date, the Seajacks Limited

Operations Director, Siggi Ludwig,

expressed “that the quality of

workmanship is by far the best I have

seen in over 45 years of experience in

building rigs all over the world, and is

currently second to none”.

With a structural weld repair rate

percentage of less than 0.5% for the

overall project to date, and less than

0.2% for the leg rack and cord

construction, “it once again proves the

processes in place at Lamprell from the

design and fabrication through to the

HSE and QA/QC are first rate”,

commented the Project Manager

Jason Pollock.

“Lamprell has once again been

identif ied in the market place as the

new-build design and construct

company of choice. With both vessels

on schedule for delivery in the f irst

and second quar ters next year

respectively, i t fur ther emphasises to

the client that Lamprell is a low-risk

solution in exercising the remaining

f ive-vessel new build options”.

Lamprell is very pleased to announce

that it has signed an initial five-year

lease for a 50,000m2 facility with 160

metres of exclusive deepwater

quayside in Sattahip, Thailand.

The Company believes this expansion

provides an excellent opportunity to

transfer the skills and reputation that

Lamprell has built over many years,

through its operations in the United

Arab Emirates, to a region which offers

a significant fleet of jack-up drilling

rigs owned by predominantly the same

group of clients that operate in the

Middle East. The company will

commence the enhancement of the

facilities shortly and anticipates

executing the first revenue generating

project in the fourth quarter of 2008,

with full operations expected to

commence early in 2009.

Commenting on the Thailand

development, Chief Executive Officer

Peter Whitbread said: “We are

delighted to announce Lamprell’s next

stage of organic growth, having

secured a new rig upgrade and

refurbishment facility in Thailand which

we expect to develop throughout 2008

and which has the potential to deliver

substantial revenues from 2009

onwards. We are also pleased to

announce these recent contract wins

with both existing and new clients and

we believe this reflects our strong

reputation for quality and service”.

Summer 2008

The last of the three Kashagan modules

(B16) was successfully loaded out in

March 2008 onto the Lamprell-owned

Hamriyah Pride semi-submersible

barge. The module, weighing 3,000te,

was floated off the Hamriyah Pride in

Jebel Ali port and handed over to SBM

Siemens for preparation for transfer to

the Caspian Sea.

During the period of storage and

preservation of B16 since mechanical

completion in the third quarter of 2007,

Lamprell has undertaken additional

works at the client’s request, for the

fabrication and installation of a number

of platforms to the pipe-rack and air

cooler buildings, to facilitate safe working

access and egress. The additional

platforms provided for module B16 have

also been replicated for Modules B3 and

B4, which were delivered to the Caspian

Sea last year and will be installed on B3

and B4 in location. Also, due to the

restrictive access through the Volga Don

canal additional fenders have been

added to alleviate potential damage to

the barge hull.

A number of different challenges were

encountered during the construction

and completion works, including the

transfer and float-off operations, all of

which have been managed and

resolved through the close working

spirit of co-operation between all the

parties involved.

Once again, we express our thanks to all

members of the Kashagan project team

including our specialist sub-contractors

and suppliers for their efforts and

support throughout the project.

In January 2008, Lamprell completed

the works associated with the manifold

deck and this was successfully

transferred to the Jebel Ali quay and

loaded out to the client-provided

transport barge for delivery to the

Dubai World Dry Docks. The manifold

is a twin-deck structure comprising

winch deck and pig deck, which was

fully fitted out (with the exception of the

winch), prior to hand-over to SBM.

Work on the seven process and power

generation modules proceeded at a

fast pace with the delivery of all

modules achieved between end March

2008 and end May 2008. The various

modules weighing up to 1,350te are

some of the largest FPSO modules built

by Lamprell. All modules were delivered

to Dubai World Dry Docks for

installation on the FPSO vessel, where it is

anticipated that the completed vessel will

depart mid October.

We would like to express our

appreciation to all members of the

FPSO FrADE project team including

our specialist sub-contractors and

suppliers for their efforts and support

throughout the project.

Summer 2008

Since the last edition of the Lamprell

Times the Nabors 660 was scheduled

to be completed in mid-January but

with the great news that the rig has

been awarded a four-year contract with

Saudi Aramco it meant additional works

to meet the requirements of the

contract. These included additional

mud and drill water tanks, along with a

Super Sack Hopper System, well test

piping and manifold, along with two

90-feet flare booms. All these items

were successfully installed and all

commissioning of every system

completed as per the revised schedule

and the rig was handed back to Nabors

on 24 February.

A ‘rig Up’ Party was held on 19 February

which was attended by Lamprell senior

management and Nabors senior

personnel. Kevin Isles Vice-President of

Projects for Sharjah and Hamriya was

first on the podium and he stated that

the 660 arrived in Hamriya Port

onboard Lamprell’s barge Hamriya

Pride on 12 November 2006 following

the purchase by Nabors of the formerly

‘Ocean Warwick’ which was owned and

operated by Diamond Offshore. It had

suffered massive damage during

Hurricane Katrina and was virtually

washed ashore off Dauphin Island in

Nabors 660 completion

Lamprelltimes

the Gulf of Mexico having lost its legs

and the drill floor lying at a precarious

and very dangerous position on the

starboard side of the rig.

The task that lay ahead for the Lamprell

and Nabors Project Teams was to

produce a rig that would be bigger and

better than before and with this in mind

they set about the task, removing the

drill floor and every piece of equipment

and electrical cabling, thus revealing a

blank canvas to set about building the

Nabors rig 660. After extensive

inspections and steel thickness gauging

it was revealed what was to be done

and a work scope was developed to

rebuild and extend the rig to provide a

more stable rig to accommodate the

new enhanced drill floor and

substructure and to also provide more

deck space.

Some 600 tonnes of steel were replaced

along with 350 tonnes of new sponsons

bringing the rig up to the same size as a

Le Tourneau 116E. In the space of 14

months the rig was transformed to what

it is today with all new engines,

substructure, drill floor, derrick, uprated

mud tank capacity, VFD room, all

motors and pumps, electrical cabling,

bulk tanks, rig air system and all

pre-load, fuel, and oil tanks, and a

completely renewed accommodation for

107 people, along with overhauled

cranes and mud pumps.

Next on the podium was Nabors Project

Manager Keith Conatser who stated

what a unique project it was, and he

appreciated how hard the whole project

team worked to overcome engineering

difficulties and then to execute the work

at the shop floor level all at a vigorous

pace without let-up at any time. Special

thanks must also go to Nabors

Electrical Senior Superintendent Mike

Desjardin and Nabors Project Engineer

Ashish Gupta for the effort put in by

them. Accepting the rig from the

Nabors Project Team to Nabors

Operations was Spiros Christophides

who stated that he was honoured and

proud to accept the Nabors rig 660

into the fleet of rigs working under the

Nabors Drilling flag.

Diamond modules

Diamond Offshore Drilling

International awarded the fabrication

and installation of a 24-man A60-

rated accommodation module for

their semi-submersible rig Offshore

Lexington drilling in the

Mediterranean Sea.

The module is to be located on the

second level starboard side replacing

the existing module.

Lamprell engineered, fabricated and

outfitted the 12.9m x 8.7m x 3.6m

module in Sharjah incorporating

Diamond’s inputs after site survey.

The design allowed the module to be

split into four sections for

transportation and to be joined

together on board with minimal

disruption to the offshore operations.

The installation and hook-up work

was carried out in April 2008.

A plaque was presented by Lamprell’s

Kevin Isles (second right) to Nabor’s

Keith Conatser (far left) to recognise

this meteoric event.

Summer 2008

NDC are quickly becoming one of

Sharjah’s major clients and we were

pleased to receive the rig Yemilah into

the yard on 23 November 2007 with the

intention of leaving on 5 January 2008.

The duration of the works meant we

were able to enjoy the Eid Al Adha,

Christmas and New Year holidays with

our NDC guests. Despite these

distractions, the work was completed

and the rig handed over to NDC by the

agreed completion date.

The main work scopes carried out

included the replacement of a significant

number of leg braces which required

careful planning to avoid any distortion

to the legs or undue stress to the

remaining braces. In addition to this a

new brine tank and associated piping

was fabricated and installed, significant

steel repairs were carried out in the

tanks and on the drill floor and the

majority of the piping systems were

repaired and replaced.

In addition, NDC had a number of their

own works that they needed to complete

in the agreed schedule, including the

replacement of a significant quantity of

jacking gearboxes, with the assistance

of NOV and Lamprell and the

refurbishment of the three existing

rig cranes.

Once again, Lamprell’s strict safety

regime resulted in 113,000 man-hours

expended without any LTIs and we were

commended by NDC on the quality and

professionalism of the Safety

department.

Many thanks have to go to the NDC team

of Fakher Belsissi, Muhammad Shoab

and Shaji KP for their assistance and

professional approach and to Lamprell’s

Project Manager Andrew Edmondson, for

the successful running of the project.

Following on from this successful project

with NDC is the refurbishment of the rig

Noble rig roger Lewis

The Noble rig roger Lewis lef t

Sharjah on 18 January 2008. Since last

issue the following works were

completed. Utility piping was required

for the height of the tower up to main

deck, consisting of air, water and fuel

lines, with a tie-in manifold at main

deck. Modifications were made to the

breather lines on engines to improve

heat dissipation. Shell required

additional safeguards on the cement

lines to wellhead from manifold piping.

The HVAC ventilation system was

improved for added air flow in

machinery spaces to

compensate for high

temperatures in Qatar

summer months. The

diverter housing and

piping tie-in system were

also installed. Other

additions included a well

bay runway beam and

bridge crane which was

attached to the

underside of the

cantilever and once

skidded out will facilitate

lif ting assistance to

wellhead area. This

was an additional

requirement by Shell to

facilitate SIMOPs.

Noble required the side

shell of the hull to be

revitalised from its

journey from China,

hence Lamprell carried

out a full high-pressure

wash-down and

degrease and repainting

of top coat. There was

also a requirement for

hook-up of electrical,

mechanical and

fabrication disciplines

for third-party

equipment; such as the

cement unit, wireline

unit, mudlogging system and low-

pressure shaker system. The last two

weeks after Christmas saw the rig crew

execute the final commissioning and

System Integrated Testing ensuring

that all the top drive, SCr and related

systems work compatibly.

Noble rig roy rhodes

The Noble rig roy rhodes arrived at

Lamprell’s Sharjah facility on 1 January

2008 for upgrade and repair work as

part of the successful Master Service

Agreement signed between Noble

Drilling and Lamprell.

As usual Noble had a very ambitious

schedule of works they required to be

undertaken in the 32 days the rig

planned to be in the yard. The main

scope of work was to remove and

replace the draw works, which involved

replacing the majority of the drill floor

and extending it to accommodate the

new, much larger equipment. In

addition, all the power and control

cables were replaced along the festoon

back to the SCr room and the majority

of the driller’s cabin was replaced to fit

around the new draw works.

Other works carried out included the

replacement of two lifeboat davits, steel

repairs to the majority of the preload

tanks and mud pits, replacing the rack

on the raw water tower, replacing 600

feet of leg ladders, replacing the BOP

platform and repairs to all three rig

cranes. In addition to Lamprell’s

scope of work, Noble had significant

works of their own they had to carry

out, including replacing the top drive

and repairs to the crown block.

Despite the huge amount of work

required to be completed by the

delivery date, Noble and Lamprell

maintained a high level of quality and

the strict safety regime ensured

accidents/incidents were kept to a

minimum, with no LTIs recorded.

Much thanks has to go to the Noble

team of Ali Nahavandi, Tom Prosser

and Vince Kondrantski for their

assistance and professional approach

and to Lamprell’s Project Manager

Andrew Edmondson, for the successful

running of the project. Andrew also

received particular praise from Noble

for completing the works on time and

with no safety issues.

On 12 December 2007 Lamprell were

very pleased to secure a second EPC

contract from Scorpion rigs Ltd to

build a LeTourneau S116E jackup

drilling rig. The rig, to be named the

Offshore Mischief, will be delivered in

December 2009 and construction will

commence in June this year at

Lamprell’s Hamriyah Free Zone

Facility, following the project’s initial

engineering and procurement phase

which is already well advanced.

The unit will have 477-foot legs which

will allow drilling in depths of up to

350 feet of water, accommodation for

a minimum of 105 personnel, a

70-foot cantilever reach with +/-15

feet of transverse skidding for the drill

floor and a rated drilling depth of

30,000 feet.

The construction sequence for the

rig has been designed to follow the

construction of the Offshore Freedom

which will ensure that a high level of

work continuity and efficiency can

be achieved.

The contract for the Offshore

Mischief was awarded under the

terms of an option agreement which

allows Scorpion to order a fur ther

three rigs.

Commenting on this contract award

Chief Executive Officer, Peter

Whitbread, said, “We are delighted to

continue working with a drilling

contractor of the stature of Scorpion in

building up their state-of-the-art fleet of

ultra-premium jackup drilling rigs. With

our continuing reputation for delivering

projects on schedule together with our

high standards of quality and safety, we

are confident that Lamprell will continue

to meet and exceed the expectations

of our clients”.

designed to work in all international

waters except the North Sea sector.

Al Ghallan Award31 January 2008 saw the signing of the

‘Letter of Award’ from National Drilling

Company (NDC) for Al Ghallan rIAP —

Phase III — Execution Phase. Lamprell

first received the invitation to tender

(ITT) from NDC in April 2006 and since

then, the estimating and proposals

team has worked with great dedication

to assure the award of the contract in

favour of Lamprell. The Lamprell

management team would like to thank

each person involved in this project for

your efforts and commitment.

This award represents the largest

refurbishment contract to be performed

by Lamprell and will be based on NDC

philosophy called rIAP (rig Integrity

Assurance Programme). This will be the

second rIAP project that Lamprell will

perform in succession for NDC. The

previously completed project was rig

Junana rIAP in 2005-2006.

Lamprell’s policy of ‘repeat business’ is

clearly evident from the award of

Al Ghallan and this makes Lamprell

stand alone from its competitors in

the business. It was the quality of

work and timely delivery which put

Lamprell in the forefront in winning this

project. Client was very much

impressed with Lamprell’s commitment

with regard to safety standards and we

are sure the efforts of all persons

involved in rig Junana rIAP project,

assisted Lamprell in the award of Al

Ghallan rIAP.

The rig was scheduled to arrive in our

Sharjah facility by mid-April 2008 for a

duration of approximately eight months.

The main areas of upgrade will be the

replacement of wasted steel within the

hull and new structures of

approximately 2,000te of structural

steel, engine re-power, new

accommodation block, slot closure,

new cantilever and derrick, complete

electrical upgrade, fluid system renewal

and jacking system upgrade. In

addition, many more new items will be

installed during the course of work.

I am sure ‘The Lamprell Projects Team’

will strive and achieve the project

milestones without any LTI as in

previously executed projects.

CTD Towers for SchlumbergerIn November 2007, Schlumberger

awarded the project for the

design and building of a new

freestanding Coil Tube Drilling

Tower similar to the previous CTD

tower built by Lamprell in early

2003 for their operations in

Sharjah for BP. The design to suit

their upcoming project in Saudi

Arabia was slightly altered with

an additional intermediate

section. This tower consists of an

articulated bottom section with

telescoping legs supporting

intermediate and top sections

each connected by only four pins

for reducing installation time.

The top section has a skid rail

system to mount the injector

jacking frame which has a

3-metre jacking and 3.5-metre

skidding capability. The coil tube

injector is mounted on this frame

and the whole arrangement

allows three-axis hydraulic

motions required for the drilling

operations. Another improvement

in this tower is the addition of a

small crane and winch mounted

in the top section.

Meanwhile Lamprell was also

awarded two standard stackable

CTD towers for Oman operations

that were also similar to one

supplied in 2004. These unlike

the freestanding CTD tower

above require guy wire and

anchor blocks to withstand the

environmental forces.

Lamprell were asked to supply

manpower to travel to El Tur, west of

the Sinai, to meet the rig docked at a

marine jetty, where we had previously

sent a team to dismantle leg sections

from another EDC rig. At the peak of

the works 200 of Lamprell’s

employees were transported to Egypt

to carry out the works. The force

consisted mainly of fabricators and

welders, riggers, QC and NDT

personnel. The operation was a

round-the-clock strategy, which

required supervision to run the shift

work. Project management was also

supplied, initially by Dave Morris and

completed for most of the project by

Archie Fernandes.

The scope of work consisted of

originally 70 tons of hull steel

replacement which finally amounted to

a total of 105 tons. Together with

these works was part replacement of

bilge and drill water piping that had

corroded. The project duration was

initially expected to be around 32 days

but in fact took 45 days with additional

works carried out such as installing

load cells on seven P-tanks, with other

works by EDC contractors, internal

painting of tanks and hull.

New luxury buses for staffLamprell are pleased to announce the

procurement of six new luxury buses

from Falcon Motors Abu Dhabi for

staff transportation. Guo Xiaofeng,

Branch Manager of Falcon Motors,

delivered the 60-seater 2008 Golden

Dragon buses last 18 February 2008

with Deputy Procurement Manager

Mathew Daniel and his team on hand

to receive them.

All buses have been registered and

four are already in use. Once all

buses have been repainted with

Lamprell colours these will eventually

replace the existing fleet used to

transport employees to and from the

Sharjah and Hamriyah facilities.

Due to inclement weather in the month

of January 2008 the Lamprell cricket

day was held on 15 February at the

Umm Al Quwain cricket facility. Sharjah

and Jebel Ali facilities were represented

by two teams apiece.

The morning session saw some

wonderful stroke play by Jebel Ali ‘A’

to reach 154 runs in their 20 overs.

But unfortunately the total was not

sufficient to hold off the strong batting

line-up of the Sharjah ‘A’ team,

reaching the required total in 18.2

overs. Sharjah have now won the event

for consecutive years.

The other game also saw an easy victory

going to Sharjah ‘B’; they managed to

reach the 134-run total posted by Jebel

Ali ‘B’ with 2.5 overs to spare.

All spectators and players were treated

to a lovely buffet lunch laid out inside

the marquee set up for the occasion.

Main trophies and individual trophies

were distributed by Kevin Isles to the

winners and runners-up.

Let’s hope Jebel Ali can recruit some

new cricket talent before the next

Series in 2009.
