I would give all credits to the writer."About the other cast, Shoojit said, "Tapsee (Pannu) wasour immediate choice for the role. It isn't a bird. It isn't a plane. And it's definitely not Superman. Whymust the desi superhero behave like a country cousin of his Holly-wood counterpar t?Remo d'Souza, who makes indigenous films based on western con-cepts such as the dance-competition genre which he made into "ABCD"(it was actually 'Ka Kha Ga Gha'), here turns the superhero genre onits head. And he has a ball coiling twisting twirling Tiger Shroff - weall know how mouldable he is - in a ball of helpless heroism.Tiger is the light of this light-hear ted take on super-heroism. Theyoung dancer-fighter can take a joke on himself even if it shows himto be less than heroic. There is a whole chunk of satirical heroismin the narrative where Aman/Flying Jatt goes out into the night tosave the world and comes home red-faced and humiliated to hisbullying mom (Amrita Singh, doing a Kirron Kher) and a gigglingbrother (Gaurav Pandey, excellent)."Dead Pool" thereby drowns in its own laughter. And no one is seriouslyhurt by K.K. Menon's over-the-top villainy, even when Tiger's adversaryis an imposing monster of a man - Raka (Nathan Jones) imported fromthe West but beaten to a pulp before the show is over. What works wonder fully in the narrative's favour is the mood ofdefiant desiness. No one here is trying to compete with the Cap-tain Americas of the world, not even the special effects guys whogive us the k ind of superhero breeze-walk tha t we saw in"Shaktimaan" on Doordarshan. Then there is a magical tree withunfathomable miraculous powers where a rain-drenched fight

(ably choreographed by Mohammed Amin Khatib) between Amanand Raka leaves the former with superhero powers and a Sikhreligious emblem imprinted on his back.Tiger is a laugh riot in conveying the spellbound bewilderment ofan ordinary guy who can suddenly fly. The narrative keeps pacewith its sincerely committed hero most of the way, slowing downreverentially for an animation crash-course on Sikh history, as towhy and how the adage of Sardarjis losing their equilibrium at thestroke of 12 came about. It's an interesting take on how the Sardarji jokes wound them-selves into a joke out of a poignant moment in Sikh history. In away, D'Souza attempts the same subversion of the superhero in"A Flying Jatt". He plays around with the tenets of the genre with-out tampering with the basic format. The narrative is never allowed to topple over the edge even whenit reaches into recesses of thematic exploration far beyond thepermissible boundaries of the superhero film. There is even ahomage to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Swachch Bharat"campaign with hordes of turbaned junior ar tistes sweeping roadsand planting trees. The end result is funny and earnest. While Tiger, Gaurav and Amritalook like one happy family, Jacqueline Fernandez is the odd one out.I only remember her grinning vacuously and running towards thesuperhero with two bottle-gourds in her hand. Now that's what we calla "lauki" per formance.

AKALI DAL 'SHOCKED' BYKEJRIWAL'S 'ANTI-SIKH' STANDCHANDIGARH, (IANS) Punjab's ruling Shiromani Akali Dal saidon Friday that it was "shocked" by disclosures made by oustedAAP Punjab unit chief Sucha Singh Chhotepur regarding "anti-Sikh" remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national con-vener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.Describing Kejriwal's remarks, made to Chhotepur, as "shockingin the extreme", the Akali Dal termed these as "anti-Sikh, mostdisparaging and humiliating remarks." Chhotepur had, earlier inthe day, made public a conversation between him and Kejriwal, in whichthe Delhi Chief Minister allegedly "ridiculed the pain of being excommuni-cated from the (Sikh) Panth (religion)"."According to Chhotepur, in this conversation, when he explained his inabil-ity to defend the imprint of 'Jhaadoo' (broom, the AAP election symbol) onan image of Sri Harmandar Sahib as this would have led to his beingsummoned by Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and the possibility of being excommu-nicated from the Panth if he defended the picture, Mr Kejriwal remarked,'Aap ko panth se nikaal dete to kya ho jata." (So what if they had thrown youout of Panth!) At this, according to Mr Chhotepur, he expressed his inabilityto defend the party on the issue and this was the beginning of his alienationfrom Kejriwal," an Akali Dal spokesman said here on Friday. The AAPfound itself embroiled in a religious controversy after the publication of thephotograph of the holiest of Sikh shrines with a broom led to an uproar inPunjab. Kejriwal and other AAP leaders had to apologize for the incident. The photograph was published on the front cover of the AAP's youth wingmanifesto in July. Akali Dal general secretary Harcharan Bains said thatoutside leaders from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana were trying to lord overAAP leaders from Punjab and the Chhotepur incident had shown how topPunjab leaders could be treated. "Kejriwal's secret ambition to be PunjabChief Minister also explains the decision to block entry of Navjot SinghSidhu into AAP as Kejriwal feared being overshadowed by a Punjab leader. What he is doing to most Punjab AAP leaders is a part of a design to renderall of them just parasites dependent on him," Bains added.

Banerjeehad on Friday given three months time to the central governmentto waive the huge debts her government inherited from the previ-ous Left Front regime and threatened to launch a movement on thestreets of New Delhi if "interference" in the federal structure is notstopped. "Mamata Banerjee's outburst at (Prime Minister Narendra)Modiji today at TMC party function reflects her frustration as shecannot in her second term, blame previous state government of legacyproblems she had inherited," Singh said in a statement. Hitting back atBanerjee, Singh said that governance has never been her asset."Therefore, knowing her weakness, she is from day one of her sec-ond term, star ted to play a victimhood card and blaming centrefor funds and non-cooperation," he said.
