LAKE VIEWS Summer Camp Sets Record

Lakeview Ministries set a new summer attendance record in 2013 with 2,300 campers attending one of our summer programs at either Camp Lakeview or Lakeview Villages. That’s 50 more than the previous record set last summer, and 400 more than 2010!

Summer campers loved the addition of the waterfront rope swing and the high ropes log bridge at Lakeview Villages and the new showers and water heaters at the Camp Lakeview bathhouse.

Of course, our real purpose is not numbers or new facilities, it is to share the saving message of Jesus Christ with each and every camper. To God be the glory for another wonderful summer.

Tom “Digger” Franke Campership Established

The Lakeview Ministries Foundation Board during their July 11th meeting, established a campership fund to celebrate and commemorate Tom “Digger” Franke’s ministry at Lakeview Ministries. Digger led Camp Lakeview / Lakeview Ministries for the last 16 years before leaving his position of Executive Director this past June.

If you would like to donate to this living legacy of Digger’s passion for summer campers, please specify Tom “Digger” Franke Campership Fund on your contribution. Each year, as this campership fund grows, it will enable campers to come experience what makes Lakeview Ministries so special that may not otherwise be able to financially reach it.

Full Time Staffing Update Due to Tom “Digger” Franke and Matt “Rufio” Riley departing Lakeview Ministries for other occupational opportunities, search committees have been hard at work to find their replacements. As of this writing, the Program Director search committee has narrowed the field of candidates down to two, who came and toured our facilities on August 19th and 20th. The Executive Director search committee has begun their work as well and was very pleased to receive 20 resumes. The committee has narrowed those candidates down to seven as the process continues. It is the goal of the executive search committee to have a new executive director begin on January 1st. In the interim period, former summer staff member Jonathan “Buzz” Haugh has been added in a Ministry Impact role, assisting with our fall programming needs.

2014 Deposit Increased to $100 The Lakeview Ministries Board of Directors has increased the deposit due at registration from $50 to $100 beginning with the 2014 camping season. The move was made to address a trend of campers not showing up for camp and not cancelling ahead of time. Although the campers lose their deposit when it occurs, it leaves scant time for the staff to try and contact campers on the waiting list. Not only is it unfair to other campers who would prefer that particular week, but camp also loses revenue which ultimately results in higher prices for all. Although last minute cancellations sometimes cannot be helped, it is hoped the higher deposit will encourage those that do have to cancel to do so in a timely manner.

Brenda Jank to Speak at Women’s Retreat Oct. 11-13

We are proud to feature Brenda Jank as the main presenter for our Women’s Retreat, October 11-13. Brenda Jank is a speaker, visionary leader and champion of rest. As an author, she's written for Leadership Journal, Focus on the Family, Discipleship Journal, Willow Creek and various Christianity Today publications. The ministry “Run Hard, Rest Well,” launched in 2008, equips God's people to explore and rediscover the power and purpose of rest within the overload of our 24/7 culture.

The weekend will also feature guest sectional leaders, recreation, campfire devotions, crafts, a banquet, optional massages or manicures, the fall colors of Southern Indiana, and much, much more. The cost for the weekend is $85 for the

entire retreat package or $45 for commuters.

Camp Lakeview’s Women’s Retreat is a time for renewal through Christian fellowship, God’s Word, and relaxation. To get more information or to print out a Women’s Retreat brochure, visit our website at camplakeview.com or call the camp at 812-342-4815. Women of all ages are welcome!
